Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain to feature microtransactions

An Italian PlayStation Store pre-order page for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain reveals the presence of microtransactions in Konami's upcoming stealth game.

The line "Acquisti in-game opzionali," which roughly translates to "optional in-game purchases," confirms suspicions first raised by a few recent previews of The Phantom Pain.

IGN's own Jose Otero also noticed room for what could be microtransactions when he previewed The Phantom Pain last month.

At one point in The Phantom Pain demo, according to Otero, attempting to speed up development on Mother Base resulted in the following prompt: "Reduced time features cannot be used in offline mode."

The Phantom Pain uses the same in-game currency system as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, called Gross Military Product, or GMP. Similar to Peace Walker, GMP is used in The Phantom Pain to build up your base.

Speculation says that the PSN requirement, combined with the reveal of "optional in-game purchases" on the game's store page, could indicate the use of real money for certain features relating to Mother Base, like buying GMP, but nothing has officially been confirmed by Konami.

Optional in-game purchase me if old

I mean... It is 2015. The war against DLC was lost a long time ago.

Konami knows that this will be the last game that sells well so that got to try to squeeze every penny out of you.

I'm assuming this is just for MGO though?

Considering how much cosmetic stuff was in MGS4, it was a natural direction to go in. Hopefully, you can earn everything via normal progression, but Konami is certainly awful enough to gate stuff exclusively behind real money.

as long as it isn't main game essential stuff and isn't intrusive i don't really mind i guess. i never buy the extra crap anyway because it adds next to nothing.

i just hope it isn't all over the menus getting in the way of me enjoying the game itself, taking me out of the experience of playing and reminding me its a big budget game worked on by a huge corporation which just wants money.

i avoid this stuff in general so i don't have much experience with it, but i always remember the mass effect 3 thing with the guy additional party member you had to buy but actually his character filled in a lot of pretty central back story to the game and really should have been in there. that seemed pretty slimy to me.

companies can charge whatever they want for whatever they want in my mind but it effects my opinion of the game sometimes if i don't think they are being fair.

Don't know how to react without knowing the nature of the in-game purchase. If I can play the entire game without being hamstrung by optional purchases, I don't care. People who want to spend money on hats and custom eye patches can do whatever they want.

Eh, only one person out of the however many they invited to play has reported this.

I think this would be pretty big deal if it was real and would've been confirmed by other people.

Disgusting but as long as it for cosmetic stuff life mother base or online hats and not anything to do with the main game then I don't frankly care. I'll just ignore it.

Or people really just don't care to report it. If people didn't see this a mile away then that's just your fault. The cash cow cometh.
