Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Hale has a surprising range to her actually. I'd prefer Kari Wahlgren or Kate Higgins myself.

Kari Wahlgren would be a great choice, she can actually voice serious characters really well and has a lot of variety of voices she's done.

Though personally I would prefer Brina Palencia, Wendee Lee, or Laura Bailey for my choices.

Really disappointing 5 million goal, not that I'm against it, but if it doesn't make it it wouldn't matter much for me. 4.5 million is all I need now.

Or maybe someone we haven't heard before?

I asked about that awhile back regarding a Japanese PS4 physical copy and they replied basically saying it was all still to be determined but that the language would indeed be supported.

Personally, I would love the choice to pick a Japanese region copy as my PS4 Kickstarter physical copy.

Ah alright, thanks for the info.

It's a poor name for it considering what a Roguelike really is versus what we're receiving.

What we're getting is a map that randomizes itself each and every time you enter it. There will be similarities of course due to the system having to create from a set amount of assets, but you shouldn't encounter a room that's the exact same if the system is designed well enough.

Oh, okay then. That sounds interesting, but maybe something for a different mode because I feel that having the rooms randomized would create a lot of simplistic or overly obtuse level designs.

Rogue Legacy was my first exposure to a "Rougelike" game. While I enjoyed it, I can't say nearly as much as the finely crafted and detailed Iga games.

However, providing we already have a proper Iga one incoming, I found Rogue Legacy cool enough that'd I'd definitely give that mode a try.
Although I started locking the castle down to keep its same shape after several hours in :P

Rogue Legacy runs on this concept, and it works just fine. I will admit that I have come across rooms in said game with those problems you pointed it, but they're very few in between.

Reminder e-mails were sent out about half an hour ago and in that time the total has gone up $18k.

The $125 and $175 tiers come with two copies of the game: one physical, one digital. You can pick any platform for each version, and both versions come with the premium backer bonuses -- and for the PC releases, the beta is one of the bonuses. (Note this does not apply to $28 add-ons, even if your base pledge is above $60.)

It's not outdated, but it's only considering the add-on system and not the tiers that allow you to get a digital game alongside your physical copy.

So basically, if you go for the $125 or $175 tier, you can select a Windows PC version as your digital copy and still get beta access whereas you wouldn't if you just added a $28 digital copy to your pledge via the addon system.

Ok, my bad. Thanks for the correction.

Never fails. As soon as "procedurally generated content" is mentioned as a SEPARATE MODE in a game, people lose the ability to read and think it means the entire game world even in story mode will not be meticulously crafted.

Happened with Bloodborne, too, when Chalice Dungeons were first revealed.

"OMG I DON'T WANT RANDOMLY GENERATED SOULS GAME. GIVE ME MY FINELY CRAFTED WORLD BACK."

Reading comprehension straight out the window.

They should really make it clear that it's a different mode since a lot of folks are confused as to whether or not it's an optional mode or something affecting the original design as a whole.

I would have worded the stretch goal something along the lines of "Roguelike Mode" or "Optional Procedurally Generated Dungeon" over what we have now.

To be fair, they did say it in update #21, all the way at the end:

Anyway, about that $5 million goal. It's a mode. It's going to make this game even bigger than it was before. And we'll be revealing it tonight. (When we heard Inti and IGA were willing to tackle it, our eyes went pretty wide.)

You'd be surprised at how many people actually don't read the updates and just take a look at the front page.

As it stands right now, that front page is delivering a confusing message to folks unfamiliar with the concept.

I knew right away what they were going for, however, I can't say it's obvious for everyone.

Edit: They updated the front page to include a bit about it being a mode.

Your edit beat me to the punch, I was just about to post that

Hmm...so, we're nearing the end and I still need to make my pledge. Trying to decide if I need Artbook or not. Not crazy about the treasure box. I have PS4, Wii U and Xbone, not sure which of those I want it in. Maybe PS4 and Wii U.

Hmm, Decisions Decisions...

I'm usually a sucker for all the physical goodies and what-have-you, but I couldn't justify the price hike for an art book looking to likely house only 40 pages or so of actual artwork.

What should be considered though is whether or not you'll regret not taking the chance to actually own it at a fairly reasonable price. It'll show up on eBay or other store fronts for sure, but I can guarantee it'll be marked up to insane levels since it's exclusive to the Kickstarter campaign.

Not a big fan of rogue like games, but rogue like metroidvania sounds like too much fun. Hopefully the plan is for the procedurally generated castles to have power ups you need to find to explore more of the castle with multiple bosses and an end goal boss that earns you the share with friends code.
I never made much progress in it, but I DID like Rogue Legacy. And frankly it's probably one of the better ideas anyway, even if it's not very exciting to me it's something that's probably not TOO much more costly yet adds a hell of a lot more value to the package.

So it's not exactly a red colored dungeon, but instead a like-red or maybe simply reddish-tinged dungeon?

Color me uninterested.

Um, what? If you're talking about the revealed stretch goal, it'll be different layouts, enemies, and what-have-you each time you enter the map.

Look at the negative nancy's in here about that 5mil goal. I'm fucking STOKED over it. Its basically a dungeon my friends and I can play over and over and it always changes. What's not to like?

Part of the problem with Harmony of Despair is that its the same levels over and over again. My friends and I got the best weapons and then had no reason to play again unless we were just craving it. A dungeon that is new every time through it will add a ton of longevity to what will already surely be a game I revisit often.

Anyone doubting how awesome it will be should try Rogue Legacy. Fantastic game. I'm level 140 and counting...

Upped my pledge from 110 to 135, so I can get a physical Vita copy and digital PC copy. Considered going to 190 for the artbook as well but... feels like too much of a raise in price and shipping for a short artbook.

Reading that the physical GOG copy will come with beta access, and concerns over how well UE4 will work on the Wii U made me decide to go with the physical GOG release.

Still got a bit of time to think if I want to get two versions or not.

Consider typically you could get a 250-400 pages art book at a fraction of that cost, I understand too.

See, The Roguelike feature would appeal to me most for the online mode most, like you mentioned for Harmony of Despair, while fun, it definitely loses its freshness quick.

Holy crap, procedural mode. Yes, fucking yes, I want this. I want this so much.

Oh, perfect, I was wondering about this. Raising pledge to $125. Physical Wii U, digital Steam.

I've been at the $100 tier since I initially backed, but now I'm kind of thinking I should up-pledge so I can get a digital copy for portable gaming [I've already decided to choose the PS4 as my physical version]. It would be nice to get another copy with all of the backer features...

I've been at the $60 digital tier but plan on going up to either the $100 or $125 tier. If you bump yours up to the $125 tier, both your physical and digital copies will have the backer features.

Yep, the pledges seem to on the rise a bit now. It's starting just as expected. Then the last day (final hours mostly) should be pretty insane. I'm feeling really confident that they can hit that $5mil.

That's the plan!

It is only an extra $25 [well, a bit more considering the USD --> CDN exchange rate]. Not too bad for an additional copy, even if it's digital.

The 5M goal is really nice IMO. I have viewed that as a possible goal from very early on in the campaign and I think it has a good chance of making it, hopefully it does.

I was really excited to see my question featured in the Ask IGA video, but him not answering the question was a disappointment. Admittedly I understand the reasoning and respect it though.

Actually, now that I think about it it'd be REALLY interesting if it could maintain the Metroid type of world progression in Roguelike mode. That is, it's almost like a randomly generated SotN or Super Metroid where you unlock more of the castle rather than a randomly generated OoE
Dracula's Castle
where your abilities to get around are more or less set in stone with only a few upgrades. I think that'd be a LOT harder to do without creating impossible to win worlds, and as such would be way more interesting to see, at least as an option (that may be limited as a result versus a "have these abilities and only upgrade your equipment" mode.)

Given that the last report this morning had $133k in Paypal donations, we've now passed $4.25 mil - 3rd Playable character.

Even if they don't make it to 5M, I do hope they try go with that idea anyway. That's too good to pass up.
Keep it open for awhile, maybe they'd hit it. It's the second highest Kickstarted game, but Torment got quite a bit more post-Kickstarter. It's entirely possible they'd hit that afterwards if they get close enough beforehand.
