Not to derail the thread but there are some conspiracy theorists that say the Jews in Israel may not be the genuine articles.

Who's considered ethnically Jewish is probably as divisive a debate as any American one dealing with race, probably.

I intuitively feel like it isn't comparable to transgender, but i can't really point out where the difference in the logic is. Again, i instinctively feel like they're different situations, but i can't really formulate a logical argument as to why.

When Crab and others ask how the situations are different, the only responses I've seen are "it just is. And if you disagree you're either racist and/or transphobic."

I think the difference is that there is no heritage involved in being transgender. You aren't transgender because your parents were transgender. Your parents and your grandparents and your great grandparents don't share a cultural history of being transgender and your place in life is not defined by what they went through because of it. If being Trans racial is really something that exists, which I doubt, then at best you would have to define yourself as black but with no black heritage. This woman seems to have just lied to create an actual heritage that doesn't exist.

I am saying when MJ's skin (regardless of the reason) became significantly lighter, he didn't get any special White privilege--in fact, he was ridiculed, called Jacko and shit like that. He was still a Black man.

That is why people trying to give this woman a pass bothers me.

This does illuminate a problem with the previously discussed trade, as the Jewish delegation maintains a partial claim to Drake, not the White delegation. White delegation lacks authorization to trade Aubrey's rights.

We remain deeply interested in not reclaiming Rachel Dolezal's rights, however, and will seek different avenues to ensure a deal is reached, including taking back Stacey Dash and Raven Symone and Flo Rida. We will even keep Yelawolf.

She kind of has to, though. Suppose she said "I have chosen to be black, but my parents are white". She'd have been ridiculed... exactly like she's being in this thread. Either she's a liar or a joke, neither is comfortable situation to be in.

The poster he was talking about tried to twist the argument to what he percieved was a "PC line" of this being cool because there is no such thing as race, the concept of color blindness is in fact a form of racism.

He wasnt even calling that poster a racist because the original comment Dennis make was a joke, but he correctly pointed out that those that think that way are.

I think lying has done more damage to her work as an activists than pretending ever could. I mean, she lied about hate crimes in order to make herself "more authentic" (I guess). That crosses any respect for the people she supposedly sympathizes with into parodying them.

Race is always a sensitive matter, but the thing about Judaism is that not only is it a race but it's a religion too. It's pretty exclusive in that case.

As far as conspiracy theories go I usually don't buy into most of them, especially ones involving the Jews.

I sort of agree here. In an ideal world, she'd just have said "I am black/choose to be black", and everyone would have known. A lot of people would have ridiculed her or ostracized her or made her life very uncomfortable; but there have to be other people out there like Dolezal who feel similarly or are even doing the same thing and someone has to be the first to be open about it. The trouble is, calling her out for that is... difficult. It's pretty understandable she was afraid of being ridiculed and ostracized; that's a hell of a difficult place to be in. So, I think it's wrong that she lied to try and fit in, but I think how wrong it is is constrained by her situation.

So many people don't even have the first clue, admit it's weird and they don't know what to believe BUT... followed by a full on full court press defense of her. There's literally nothing now, that you can say they cannot do. Even if they want to be black, who are you to judge the identity they want to see themselves as.

It just so rage inducing that people want to cheer her on her brave decision to be black. I been black every day of my life, where is my cheer section? Where was ll these supportive people when that little girl got dragged and beaten at that pool party?

This is such a strange argument you're making here. I am entirely comfortable with who I am. More than that, I am very fortunate to be actively happy about the person I am. There are facets of me I'd change, but they're relatively limited. I'm not arguing because I feel if I defend this woman, I can follow in her footsteps. I also have no particular dispensation towards to white people. I don't care about white people specifically any more than I care about any other people. I specifically don't have any reason to care about Rachel Dolezal, a woman who I've never met and probably have very little in common in.

The reason I care, is because if she's not pretending, and she wakes up in the morning and looks in the mirror and sees a skin that isn't hers and thinks, "that's wrong/that's not me/that's not who I am"; and she finds a body she's comfortable living in, and other people tell her that's wrong and try to force her into a body she's not comfortable in and into being a person she isn't, then there is something *wrong* going on, and someone is being hurt.

Of course, if, deep down, she hates pretending to be black and only does it for the NAACP salary, is or ambivalent and does it for attention, then you're right entirely - it' deeply offensive and she is wrong. But, assuming for the time being that's not why she does it, I have reason to care.

I was going to post something along these lines but you beat me to it. But yeah, the very natures of sex and gender are different than race and heritage in that regard and those realities need to be factored into the discussion of this woman's case.

I mean, all of those posts you linked could easily have the same arguments some women use against transgender women. That's the point Crab and a couple others were making earlier. Like I said, I feel like the situations are different too, as an initial reaction. But I don't have a clear, logical explanation for why "transracial" people like this are at best mentally ill while transgender is a completely different and accepted concept. I can't articulate any reasons and I haven't seen anyone else convincingly do so either. And again, this may be due to my lack of knowledge on trans issues, which is why I was asking for somebody who knows more to clearly explain why they're different.

I dig that, but it was the 'of a different kind' that made me raise that comment in particular. I get why the dude you were talking to perceives a minefield. This topic is offending people like crazy.

Thing is, this woman hasn't even come out and said she 'feels' black as far as I'm aware. Kinda renders the whole thing moot. I do think that the conversations around 'new' trans labels are coming though, soon enough. First it will be be transable (because if you're smashing up your own limbs you obviously have some sort of 'real' issue) and then it'll be transethnic / transracial. I'll be sitting back and listening with interest because I really don't get any of this stuff at all.

Again though, even if there was going to be a conversation, this woman should not be a catalyst. This is more like some weird disguise gone wrong.
 
You can either see her as someone who is a deceitful fraud or someone who is pretty damn messed up but ultimately well meaning. I see her as the former not the later. She hasn't really hurt anyone here, so I don't know why anyone would actually be mad at her.

Probably posting about free speech and how the teacher shouldn't have been fired for her Facebook post, how the cop was under stress and made a mistake, or positing about why so and so crime went unacknowledged by the media etc. There is this pervasive 'white is right' mentality that is taking hold everywhere and it's gets so frustrating.

This is also really frustrating. You have my support. I don't know how to best express it, but you have it and you can count on it. I'm not American; that poor little girl isn't something I can actively do anything about (unless you have any suggestions), but I have written about how badly the American police system and justice system, and to be honest, political system in general needs massive reforms; in many threads other than this one. Why are you supposing this is the only issue I care about?

Not exactly surprising. All of these people defense-forcing this behavior and bringing up terrible analogies to transgender acceptance movements are only concerned about letting this woman do what SHE wants to do. Black people find this offensive? "You shouldn't, you should be FLATTERED someone is willing to 'go backwards' (actual words said in this thread) to help you out! Live and let live! But she's doing good with her lies, deceit, and dishonesty toward the people she's supposed to represent!"

She literally peaced the fuck out of an interview when he questioned if she was African-American, whether the black man she claims was her father actually was. She said something about how we're all from Africa originally and then just bailed on the interview. She knows the jig is up now. No more pretending.
