Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

Same here, it's only 2$, but if it's just a trial and error sort of experience, I doubt I'll play it much.

well to be fair it's a fairly short game anyways. It wasn't terrible, but it could have been better, as it is indeed very trial and error towards figuring out what to do.

So how does refunding work?

play a game you buy from the sale for lest than 2 hours.
put in a request to steam to refund with in the next two weeks with any reason you want.
get your money back.

abuse this system to basically get free rentals and likely get your account banned from getting refunds in the future.

I've only played it on PS3, but...

Pros:
  • The story
  • The characters
  • The watercolor art style
  • The music
  • The gameplay
Cons:
  • It's "anime"

There is another con to Valkyria Chronicles. The fact that missions are graded solely on the number of turns you complete them in really encourages you to use a couple of scout characters and just run to the objectives, which is not the most fun way to play the game.

Its a great game, but the missions grading stuff is dumb. You should still buy/play it though. It's really good.

well there are plenty of reasons to use scouts aside from just grades, but I totally agree with that.

the grading system should have been done better, and the balance between classes needed a little more focus (snipers are so useless.... 95% chance to hit... miss 30% of the time @_@)

I played and beat the game on the ps3, I am tempted to pick it up and replay it on the PC even though I have tons of games to play. It is easily one of my favorite ps3 games though as the blend of third person shooter and srpg makes for an experience you really can't get from other games.

That is one big con I remembered from playing it on the PS3 too. Moving my scouts to their flag and capture it without using my precious CP for my other units. The game is great nonetheless, but the ranking can definitely be adjusted.

I just wanted to say that while it has a bit of a learning curve at first due to a lack of a tutorial. This War of Mine is absolutely phenomenal once you get the hang of it. Absolutely stunning atmosphere, incredible dynamic soundtrack that gets your heart pumping in tense situations.

Bought it today and played for hours non stop. It's the first time in a long while where I've gotten completely sucked into a game. Every decision matters where the decisions you make out scavenging can actually impact the morale of your group.

Just beat Portal 2 on PS3 (got it for less than $5 from a PSN sale). Just bought the steam version... Yay for double dipping.

So far it's been this game and Witcher 2 for me.

might fuck around and pick up sonic all stars racing if that goes on sale for cheap (edit - oh it's a daily deal already, haha)

Also Colin Moriarty was PRAISING that Amalur game recently, does it deserve the love?
Amalur's great. The combat's really fun, and I swear they must've had someone whose sole job was to create stealth kill animations because every creature type has a unique animation (and most have several). It's the best game ever made for murdering gnomes.

Yeah, Valkyria Chronicles isn't perfect, but it's pretty well-loved and not undeservedly so.

Pretty good damage control so far, only bought Wolf3D for a buck 24. I'm gonna be peeeissed if it's 75c later!

should i get some of the wolfenstein games/

dont own any

3D is really fun but super simple. If you do buy it look at its community page to install the smoothest version.

Have left my computer idling all day and I still havent got a card from the mini game since I first booted it up at the start of the sale. I got two cards real quick at the start and since then, which has been well over 24 hours, absolutely nothing. Valve really shat the bed with this game.

Seeing the Friends activity feed, only one has gone full wallet mode for now.

I almost bought a game... Damn, I need to be more careful. They should give a badge for being able to resist... Not that it will be hard, I already blew my monthly gaming budget on Destiny...

I have a question, right now I am living in mexico and I recently the prices where changed to pesos and there is region lock in gifting so I can't gift games to activate outside of south america, but if I move to the usa will I still be able to play my games?

I finished an in-game afternoon in Salt stalking a white deer with a club, but sadly I managed to lose track of it when the sun set, and was left clutching a torch in the darkness. I stumbled around until I finally had enough flint and logs to make a campfire.

Then I noticed on another, nearby island, there was another campfire...hmm...

I decided to wait until morning before investigating it. Five hours later (campfires are quite a nice way to skip time), I was back on my sail raft, floating towards the column of smoke. I crept towards it, and saw a weird looking man running around holding an axe. A pirate! I snuck up, hit him from behind with my club and stole his loot. Yay, murder! I started to meander off towards a patch of trees hoping to find something new, then heard footsteps behind me. I turned around to see a pirate cartographer waving a weapon around menacingly. A fierce battle ensued (consisting of me wildly flailing a pickaxe around) that abruptly ended when I toppled backwards down a cliff into the sea.

Remember to not buy War in the North for any price. €4.99 is €5 too much for this title. It's one of the absolutely worst games I have had the misfortune to test. Just don't buy it.

ended up getting creeper 3 and wolf3d and the new order. it will be nice to play some new games.

this game sounds dope af but looks stupid af. will it be cheaper than $7.49 during this sale?

You should. I travelled from Europe to Thailand and I was playing Baldur's Gate remaster there in the hotel. I just got the typical e-mail from "You are logging from a different geographical location with the following IP..."

Just submitted my first Steam refund for the Witcher Adventure Game. I'm sure it's good deep down and the presentations very slick but it's way too convoluted and confusing. The game rules need to be more accessible.

Contemplating the two latest Wolfenstein games and the Portal bundle since I've played none of them.

Not really a zombies/monsters fan in FPS as I'm not that great at them anyway.

I had the money saved for DMC4SE, but the deal for the Metro games was too good to pass.

Will be hard to not buy anything more and actually support DMC day one.

Thanks, then I will not hesitate to buy some games

Yeah, It was a really "meh" game, and I couldn't even finish it because it crashed halfway through the last level.

Btw, Has ANY Sonic game gone down in price at all? I was looking for the collection but it's the same price as when it wasn't a flash deal.

How are you guys liking Subnautica? Hadn't heard of it before the sale. Will probably pick it up later this year. Looks great.

Which Victoria 2 DLCs are worth getting?

Yes.
Yes you should.

You need at least the base game, A House Divided and Heart of Darkness. The rest are sprite packs and some songs. Most mods (pretty much all of the newer ones) only work if you have the base game and both expansions and they completely overhauled the westernisation and colonisation aspect and added stuff like fabricating wars and international crises.

Basically just get the complete pack since the two mentioned DLC are pretty much mandatory and it is more economical.

Just cleared 1120 and no cards. Dunno if I'm doing something wrong or if they just turned them off today.

hilariously enough last day I wasn't able to get it at all (keeps reporting errors when I click Play) but with each click I got up to 4 cards lol

$7.49

Serious Sam 3 BFE Gold

good deal / game?

love the predecessors

From a big SS fan, no. 60-70% of the game is a total snoozefest(not slow for serious sam standards, but like you're literally doing nothing) and I had to download a mod that basically makes the whole game extreme to actually enjoy it. Either wait for it to be cheaper or buy it now and play with mods, it's a pretty disappointing serious sam title but I'll still get SS4 day one and hope they learned from their mistakes.

Cool thanks, will grab it soon.

If I recall correctly from my last time, it's as easy as going to your Steam installation, deleting everything but the SteamApps folder and steam.exe and moving those to the new area. Then run Steam and it'll rebuild from there.

Thanks a lot! I've just got a new 1TB SSD which I'd like to dedicate exclusively to my Steam library, so I was definitely interested in knowing how to perform this procedure most efficiently.

Another quick question: I've got an MSI GTX 970 still sitting on a 344.48 driver. I'd like to update to 353.06 in order to achieve the smoothest experience with GTA V using my card.

I'm wondering whether I can update the display driver safely and simply through GeForce Experience, or if it's instead recommended to uninstall the previous driver, manually delete all the folders and only then do a clean install of the new ones.
I'd rather avoid painstakingly long processes that may even delete my custom configs, but if it's still recommended to proceed manually these days, I'll have to comply.
