Games you remember, names you don't

I have one

-PC game(I remember playing it on an Atari ST computer)
-You controlled a little stick figure guy with a gun
-you could only shoot down and to your left or right breaking that block of ground
-levels had enemys and to defeat them you shoot a hole in the ground, they fall in it then you could walk over the hole with them in it
-game name spelt phonetically was "go up" I think

One of the first games I ever played involved a little plane that was nothing more than a |__ shape. It could fly both left and right and pressing the space bar made it shoot little lines that were supposed to be missiles. The enemies were usually tanks or something to that effect and you could see triangles in the background that were supposed to be mountains.

Does anyone know this game? I've been looking for it for years..

Holy crap, that's the one! Thanks!!!

Good to hear :D I looked through a bunch of transforming robot games before I got to that one! :lol

Defender? Not sure about the tanks.

I'm sure it's not that but we never know... Defender?

(And if it's that, I would feel very old since it's a "classic" for me)

Trying to recall a verrry old learning adventure game I played back in 1994/5 or so.

Some details:

- You had the choice of going North, South, East and West.
- I can't remember the exact system, but it was definitely disk based (those old fashion ones, not floppy disks). May have been an extremely old version of the Apple Mac, but I'm not sure.
- You interacted with characters based on colours, like Mr. Blue, Mr. Black (who would steal your items if you chose the wrong answer to his question) etc.
- The main danger of the game was a crocodile in a cave. The climax of the game is you get a rope, go to the back entrance of the cave and stop the crocodile by tieing its tail to a rock.
- In a certain part of the game, you'll come across the grave of one of the crocodile's victims, which reads:
"Here lies Jaque/Jock, bitten by the croc".
- Another danger is that you have to avoid opening a basket with a snake inside it, or it'll kill you.
- A wizard or some shit tells you you're awesome at the end...and then invites you to a party of sorts. May have been a Halloween one.

And that's about it. Any help would be appreciated.

There's a game I'd love to know the name of. Played it on the Commodore 64 around 20 years ago. It's set on space (the moon?) and I remember it being mostly blue in colour. The main character was in a space suit and the space bar was used to jump (or something else important :p). Title may have been "xxxxxxx in space'.

Anyone have any idea what I'm on about? :D

Do you mean adventure in the point-and-click sense or in the more modern sense? If the latter, this just about fits "The Adventures of Captain Comic".
It was a more modern adventure, but not that game. I think it was more recent than that game, probably 90's.

I also remember one of the earlier levels was a large slide, with a hut and lake at the end.

Astro Nell? It's a Vic-20 title but I believe there's some compatability between the Vic and the 64 isn't there?

Okay, I've been looking for this game for a long time--I remember playing it a lot as a kid, and I want to see if it's actually good, but I can't remember the name of it. Here's what I remember about it:
  • It was a SNES game. I know that for sure.
  • fantasy setting
  • It had a camera view that was like an RPG or Zelda game. I would say the game was pretty much a Zelda clone, if I remember correctly.
  • I remember a major gameplay mechanic being the use of a fireball, or maybe that's just the weapon I used most of the time. But the fireball would be attached to your character, and then you could shoot it at the enemies, and it would bounce back.

The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang?

I'm searching the name of an arcade shoot-em' up, it was on one of those multi-game arcade machines. NEO-GEO AES, I think.

The game was from around 94-96. And it was a vertical shooter.

The only thing I can still remember enough to discribe was the intro, some sort of an early FMV.

You could see a fighter jet and how it was prepared to start, it flew trough a corridor of its launchpad and the launchpad opened like a mouth, it was similar to the sword of acala launchpad from Ikaruga. The graphics of the intro had a strong blue tone, almost monochrome.

Ingame it used scaling and rotating effects to generate dynamic backgrounds.

I hope someon can help me...even with my shitty description!

Weird, there's actually a weapon just like that in the game, a ball that circles you from which you shoot fireballs
Yea in the game I'm thinking of, the ball was right in front of you, like connected to you, until you shot it. The ball was about the same size, if not bigger, than the character.

nope, that's not it either

There was this NES game in where two players would control separate sides of a chess-like board. The pieces consisted of these fantasy-like monsters (dragons, unicorns, etc.). You'd face your pieces against that of your opponent until one side has been completely eradicated.

I used to play it a lot, but I can't remember its name.
KevinCow said:
It was on the original Gameboy. The overworld was kinda like chess, I think, in that it was split into a grid and you had a piece per block. There was the giant, the knight, the wizard... Anyway, you'd move them around, and when you hit an enemy, it would go into a sort of Zelda-like overhead view and you'd fight.

To be perfectly honest, I seem to remember that it kinda sucked. I just wish I could remember what it was called.

I've completely forgotten the name two. I used to have it for PC, I even remember the game cover (it was two dragons of climbing on a weird geometric shape in opposite colors). Anyone remember this game? The two sides had different magical creatures they controlled and, when two pieces entered the same square, an actual battle was fought to determine who would win (so in theory you could be a terrible chess player but still win). One of my favorite games from my childhood.

Alright, here's a hard one. Keep in mind I played this like 15+ years ago, so sorry for the very vague details.

- It's a Sega Master System game.
- It's almost like Black Belt (enemies come to screen very fast)...
- EXCEPT that I remember one of the bosses was a Tiger (and I also think it wears a karate suit or something). Played Black Belt and didn't saw a tiger :(

So yeah, that's it :lol ... Anyone have an idea? Or my memory it's really ****** up?

Glad this was bumped, Anyone? :lol

Gotta be Archon and Archon 2:Adept. I used to play this on my C64 all the time. Amazing back in the day.

Stretch Panic on PS2 was a game I was really looking forward to when I first read about it. It had that crazy quirky aspects to its design I really like. I just never got to pick it up and still don't know whether it's good or not!

I have trouble remembering the name of a PC game I played many years ago. I remember you played as some kind of warrior/adventurer/knight, riding in on your horse into a village. You could choose gender at the start, IIRC. I remember some very vague things, though, such as a wolf that attacked you, you being able to turn into a frog by reading a spell out of a book, and being able to wear armor, but if you fell you couldn't get up and the game was over. The game was semi-3D, I think.

Ecstatica! :D Awesome game.

OK this may be very vague but it's been driving me mad, there was some educational games in the UK in the 90's that featured maybe an alien I think (it may not have been an alien but it had a main character).

I had one that helped you learn French and one of the games in it was a breakout clone.

I think the name had 3 letters.

Sorry its so vague, anyone any idea??

Chicken Invaders?

Some isometric arcade shooter where you either played as or fought robots in the first level, which probably had a red, yellow colour scheme. Existed around the same time as the X-men beat-em-up.

Probably just invented a game...

I know there were a bunch of educational games starring a green alien.

I called them the Blaster games. They would always be called like Math Blaster, Reading Blaster.

Maybe they made a French Blaster?

That would be my best guess.

There was a game for the genesis where you were on rollerblades and you can grab onto the back of cars. I believe you could use crobars to attack other people as well.

Skitchin

Fun game!

EDIT: removed link.

I remember playing this game with my brother when I was little. You played as a ninja in a purple outfit (No, not Ninja Gaiden). From what I can remember it was an action adventure game for PS1. There were a lot of wooden poles and spikes coming out of the ground, and bear traps?

This is all very hazy I must admit.

I've been trying to track down this one game for ages.

It was a sega arcade game, probably system 16 powered. It had two or four player simultaneous play. The characters were small and had futuristic greenish blue jumpsuits. The core mechanic involved throwing bombs and the level design reminded me of Mega Man 2's Flashman stage. I know it's very vague, but that's all I can remember.

NES, isometric view, automatic scrolling (though you still controlled the character). Character was either a robot or a man in a space suit (I think... Hey, it's been 20 years) who collected ammo upgrades as he fought an alien invasion (again, not sure). Very weird pallete (mostly green, black and pink, IIRC). I loved it, but I suspect if I were to play it again today, I'd say "WTF was I thinking"?

Isolated Warrior?

from years ago i can't remember my first 3 games in my life, i played that in arcades when i was 4-5 years old, i hope someone can help me :'(

All are arcade games.

1. (platform 2D) the hero dress only blue pants, maybe black shoes, (i don't remember a t-shirt or similar), only can do punch or kick, in the first level the boss is a huge guy who launch flames from mouth, in second level you fight against ninjas, the boss on second level maybe is a purple ninja and moves very quickly using a wand to hit you (maybe...), i never pass second boss but was always funny. (i found a game called Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja, looks similar, but, for some reason i'm not sure is the same i remember, maybe i played a clone).

2. a war game, you have a gun, you are a soldier with green clothes (like COD soldiers), you can move up-down (like Final Fight), i only remember a boss, a tall soldier who launch boomerangs (in wave form) and that fight use aerial camera.

3. a shooter (like Ikaruga), you are a dragon can have 1, 2 or 3 heads used to shoot, you can launch bombs to kill surface enemies

thanks in advance guys :)

Quartet, maybe?

I had a very faint memory of the Stormtrooper-ish figure & the looming Mech from the boxart, and through a bit of vigilance I found it yesterday @ HOTU: G-NOME - 1993. I never actually played it, but the idea of ejecting from your mech to fight on foot with the ultimate goal of hijacking other mechs was apparently very appealing to me when I was 9. I believe the Rogue helmet from Halo 3 triggered this boxart memory and set me on the quest, and that was a few years ago...

The closest I got was the Squishies mod in Shogo, which was fun but a far cry from actual Mech games.
