Games you remember, names you don't

Need help with this one [One of the fisrt games that I played in PC]:

- PC game [Probably made from 1988 to 1993]
- You fly a combat airplane, F-16 shaped [no spaceship]
- Every time you ended a mission you could go to the hangar and buy parts for the airplane [shields, bombs, more fire power, etc]
- The game was awesome !

There's one game who's name I don't remember that sticks out. It was a Sega CD game that was a shooter sidescroller with space crafts that kind of looked like an elaborate Gundam. Hard and often frantic, but pretty awesome game. Can not remember the name at all. :(
To answer my own request, I now know the game in question was Lords of Thunder.

Ok this is really obscure. The game was released in the early 80s, I think it was for the first MSX system, I know it was cartridge based at least. Ok description: You`re this bluish robot that flies around shooting things, the robot does not transform so it's not Thextder or whatever that game was called. Anyway the game scrolls horizontally and the distinguishing feature is that every once in a while there is a crater/hole in the ground at the bottom of the screen that you can enter, and when you do enter the game switches to a one on one fighting game versus another robot. There are 4 or 5 different robots that you can fight in these craters and you can beat them in two ways: either kick their ass until they have no health left or if you manage to push them to one end of the "arena", you can push them into a pit at the edge of the screen...

Once you beat them you get a power up for your gun that you can use outside the crater to shoot the flying enemies. I think there were 8 stages or something like that. I remember the name being CXRoid, but back then I didn't know english very well and the font used on the cartridge was pretty fucked up so I always had the feeling that I'm reading it wrong, google confirms that.

Shinobi?

I got one but its gonna be a vague one i think

It was a game for the Mega Drive. it was an RPG similar to Zelda. All i remember was that it was very green. Everywhere you went it was green. No it wasnt Beyond Oasis. But similar.

Solei, perhaps?

Seems similar enough to Zelda, plenty of green too.

I THINK it was a PS1 Game.

It was some kind of beat em up game, you could play it coop, I think there were numerous characters to choose from.

Features included:

Full 3D game.
Somewhat open world - or at least quite big scenarioes.
You could pick up weapons and other things, I think I remember you could pick up tires and stuff.
I remember some enemies came on bikes.
If I remember correctly the last boss or at least the later stages was on some kind of airplane or was it an elevator?

I'll kiss your feet if you know what this game is.

Back in 95-96 or so I played this FPS at someones house, I remember it being a modern setting. I remember walking into a room with a mirror and seeing the character, he had sunglasses.

Right now you are probably all thinking Duke Nukem 3D, but here is how I remember it. I remember him having slick black hair and a black leather jacket, which would not fit with Duke Nukem. I remember I only played for a few minutes before I got kicked off but I could never figure out what game it was.

It is possible it was Duke Nukem and my memory is just wrong, I have played through Duke Nukem 3D many times and I remember this game differently. It had to be a Doom or Build engine game (or equivalent).

back in elementary school i remember playing this game for the apple II e where you were tasked with driving to a location in a fictional town. there was a simplistic graphic depicting what the road looked like in front of you and there would never be more than 4 directions to go in.

i want say there was a character named penny but i don't remember.

TekWar?

Anyone know the name of this one? Memories of it are hazy, but I remember this much (I think):

-Early to mid-90s (not entirely sure) PC game about dinosaurs
-Player picked a dinosaur to play as at the start of the game- could choose from a number of herbivores and a few carnivores
-2D sidescroller- player was consistently running right and had to move up and down the screen avoid rocks and predators (represented by static sprites that the player had to run around)
-If the player chose to play as T. Rex, they had no predators to fear and did not have to avoid the other dinosaurs
-Gameplay was accompanied by a classical piece (in MIDI form)- I want to say that the piece was Hungarian Dance No. 5, although it may not have been
-Title track was also a classical composition, but I've never heard of it since so I have no idea what it's called- I do remember what it sounded like, however (short and punchy)

Many thanks to anyone that can help.

I got one...

  • it was for the Apple II
  • single screen platformer (with multiple levels)
  • character was a kid, I think
  • your weapon was a boomerang of some sort
  • had a high fantasy / medieval setting
  • gameplay revolved around collecting eggs/gems/???

I haven't played the game in 20 years, but would love to track it down. Internet high five to the anyone that can name it.

So no one knows this?? :(

I played this shareware PC RPG back in 1994-95. I think it has 3 parts where the first one is free and the last 2 parts were like $15-$20 each. The game is normally played like a jrpg in the fields and towns but the battles are fought on a grid not unlike a SRPG. I vaguely remember the title screen showing 4 RPG archetypes looking like they're on a witch hunt :) That's all I can remember besides its catchy battle BGM. I think the name starts with the letter A, but whenever I had the urge to search for it I always come up with Arena or Aretha which are not it.

There's one called "The Aethra Chronicles", I'm not sure if that's the "Aretha" you're alluding to?

All are arcade games.

1. (platform 2D) the hero dress only blue pants, maybe black shoes, (i don't remember a t-shirt or similar), only can do punch or kick, in the first level the boss is a huge guy who launch flames from mouth, in second level you fight against ninjas, the boss on second level maybe is a purple ninja and moves very quickly using a wand to hit you (maybe...), i never pass second boss but was always funny. (i found a game called Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja, looks similar, but, for some reason i'm not sure is the same i remember, maybe i played a clone).

2. a war game, you have a gun, you are a soldier with green clothes (like COD soldiers), you can move up-down (like Final Fight), i only remember a boss, a tall soldier who launch boomerangs (in wave form) and that fight use aerial camera.

thanks in davance :)

Megadrive/Genesis Japan only game. Single screen 1-2 player platformer, with little crocodile/dragon sprites running around with hammers knocking holes in the floor, enemy falls in, hit with hammer again etc (you know the gameplay mechanic). Ultra garish cartonn gfx style (Parodius-ish palette). From about 93-94 i think, and reviewed favourably by Sega Pro in the UK.
ANy suggestions much appreciated!

Anyone?
If it helpd cover was pale blue with close up cartoons of each croc/lizard hybrid waving their hammers so to speak

I didn't look very hard, but I did find a platformer for the Apple II featuring a kid character whose weapon was a dagger that spun in mid-air (could be confused for a boomerang?) Are you thinking of Kid Nikki?

A game on the Commodore 64.

First level involved cowboys on a moving train, towards the end of the level you had to use a pulley mechanism to keep you moving along the track.

Game was cool, but can't remember much more and definitely can't remember the name.

I used to play this game on DOS but I don't remember much. It was first person, I remember the guy had a glove weapon on that looked a bit like Lion-o's claw glove thing and I just remember this one part (probably was near the beginning) where there were a row of wood looking cabins with monsters attacking you that looked like a bit like Sabretooth form the X-Men.

I've been trying to find out what game this was for years now.

Hexen?

I'm trying to remember the name of an early Win95 puzzle game in which characters had to hack computers and avoid ICE by somehow moving around a black and green grid. I think there were multiple selectable characters, and I also think it may have been a very early Direct X game as well.

There's some top-down maze adventure game on Intellivision that I remember playing, but I'm not sure if this is the right name or not: Swords and Sorcerers. It's basically top-down like a Zelda game (you move the guy in 8 directions) but you don't run into monsters that often, and when you do, you just beat them by stabbing them when their sword isn't pointed at you. I remember the manual describing your character as a good guy white knight, and having to find keys in the dungeon.

Swords and Serpents

could be played in co op with player 1 being a knight and player 2 being a wizard who could cast several spells.

Can't remember this one:
-arcade title, perhaps early 90s but I'm not sure
-2D third person shooter, the view is fixed, you don't run toward the background or anythin
-you can control an indian or a cowboy
-you control the crosshair on the screen and your character follows panzer dragoon style
-you can roll left or right to dodge bullets
-various stage elements used for cover can be destroyed by your or the enemies' shots
-there is 2 player (duh)
-it's fun

After finding this one you can also suggest similar (and better) alternatives ^_^

easy Blood Bros.

as for alternatives, there's Blood Bros pseudo prequel, Cabal a gangster themed blood bros named Hard Times a pirate themed clone named..heh...Pirates and Alligator Hunt (space, sci fi) all released around the same time.

Most recent clone i know of is Gamshara (mitchell/capcom 2003)

Also try: NAM75 on NeoGeo (and arcade obviously) and, Wild Guns on Snes, which is probably the best alternative to Blood Bros ever.

That's it, THANKS ^_^

It's a little different than I remembered with independent player/crosshair movement and far more destructible stuff :)

Ok, here's a game I've tried to track down for a long time.

It's a Mario game, but on PC. It was an educational title. I don't remember a ton about it, but here are a few details I still can recall.

-There was an overworld of some kind that played the same music that played on the SMW overworld, listen here: Link
-You could select either Mario or Peach to play as.
-During the mini games there were piranha plants that would talk to you in little kid voices, and the VO's were out of sinc with the mouth movement.

Sorry I can't be more specific. I've tried to find it, but there are a lot of Educational Mario titles out there and it's hard to figure out which one I used to play.

1st game
A game like gauntlet.
One guy was like Indiana Jones with a whip and i think the hat.
Collected Coke cans.
You could throw a torch and set the grass on fire.

2nd game
Top down view flying a jet bike like Star Wars speeder.
You got upgrade weapons.
First boss was a Lionheaded Boss.
Controllers were rotary joysticks(Ikari Warriors).
Collected coins
One of my favorite weapons when shot was a ring of fire that would make a whooshy sound as it circled around and burned/killed enemies.

NEVERMIND I FOUND THIS ONE
GONDOMANIA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt_LmCOLF54

3rd game
Isometric view
Cartoony
Shot old 60's style robots.

2nd game was the rather obscure Gondomania i can't remember the japanese name (mayksayoa senshi, something like that)

3rd game is Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters most likely

I was thinking of Wrath of the Black Manta for the NES, but you could throw stars in that too.
The original Ninja Gaiden was a side scroller a bit like double dragon and I think that was just punch and kick for the most part.

Edit: looks like eso76 got it, potentially.

I never could remember a name of my first japanese game. It's really ancient history (somewhere around 1985-1989), so I'm not quite sure what platform was it on.
What I do remember, it looked awesome for that time, especially hero, it had awesome level design, some looking kinda techno, other kinda medieval, there was a lava level and forest one too. Every boss was quite different from the others, every level had unique enemies. From numerous bosses I was most impressed by a huge Swan (well, may be it wasn't a swan, but sure looked like one).
Not a single time I've seen screenshots from that game anywhere, so I suppose it's not a well known game, what's kinda strange, because a game was exceptional for that time.
