My favorite thread of E3 is here!

To this day, I still have no idea how Smash works... No idea who's winning and loosing, no idea what those numbers mean... Smash is boring.

The higher the number the more you risk getting hit off the stage. You only lose if you go off the stage, there's no KO or anything like that. That's what I gather from not playing any Smash.

Last EVO, I think it was, those Jigglypuff rounds were pushing 8 minutes. It was worse.

That's why SSB4 at Evo will be 2 stock matches. These aren't stock matches; purely timed. Which means that matches won't end earlier than the time that is set for it on the menu.

I don't get the "johns" joke. Can someone clue me in ?

There was a competitive Smash player named John who would always come up with shitty excuses when he was losing (my controller is busted etc) so Smash community says "No Johns" which pretty much means no whining. It's a general FGC term now

"John" was apparently an individual who participated in smash tournaments in the far past. He often complained about characters being broken, controllers not working, or other excuses for his failures when he lost. It happened often enough that it actually became a meme, and is now well recognized in the competitive community of many games to describe such complaints.

Similarly, there is a Sweedish version known as "Yuna" for someone who did basically the same thing.

it looks like they've really done right by Mario Maker, this looks incredible

it's cool to see Cosmo on a stage this big, dude's really kind of made it
