Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

Oh man, what a showing for this game.

Thank christ Howard has the vision to not listen to people who are stuck in the past, a voiced protagonist will take this game to the next level. It'll have actual conversations for a start. I'm over the moon with that decision.

I wasn't prepared the incredible depth of customisation, and it applies to bases, guns, and armour? Just incredible.

2015 release date... Somebody pinch me. E3 done and dusted before it started, pack it in folks.
 
Niceee, but it looks like they took a lot of the improvements straight from theProject Nevada Mod for New Vegas lol
- Grenade Hotkey
- Visor when you wear helmet
- Correct me if I am wrong but in additional to V.A.T.S it looks like there could be a slow time feature, "bullet time"

Not complaining looks sick
 
I really do wonder why they chose to go the Mass Effect route for the dialogue system. Was anyone complaining about the existing one in 3/NV?
Maybe they thought having your character voice the exact same line you just read and chose would be redundant. And considering how little I care about my character being voiced, I can't say that's a trade-off I'm too happy with.

On the other hand all the customization and base building stuff, and the improved gunplay, should make this Fallout much more enjoyable to actually play even if the writing hasn't improved since 3.
 
They had better have custom remote play controls on ps4. I can't deal with what happened with the handsome collection again.
They could even let you touch the enemy on screen to use VATS

Haven't seen the crafting video yet but lol you're right. Fallout was always this guy/garl on a mission, wandering through the wastelands, coming into a town or camp to help or fuck up people and then continue his/her journey. Seems really unnecessary to have such a complexity build mechanic in a game like Fallout. Would've better suited to TES imo but maybe Bethesda didn't wanted to wait that long and thought they need add something new. Well we will see how it plays out.

Which is a bit odd to me. I thought VATS was one of the low points of Fallout 3. Inserting dice-rolls into a FPS didn't feel great to me. Was hoping for better solution this time around.

Also the loud American crowd wasn't as bad here as it was at the Doom footage where they literally screamed their lungs out at every bit of gore that showed up.

Anyway, looking forward to play both games though!
 
Everything I saw looks great, really looking forward to this.
I'm glad Bethesda decided to finally voice their players character.
 
I swear we better have bunch of dialogue options and not just a maximum of 4 mapped out to each button ala Mass Effect. Things I loved about the other games is that sometimes the game will give you up to like 7 options or more.
 
Why can't you see what you're doing when you're creating the face of your character ? There's a reason why there is a board with a range of skin colors, hairs etc. in games where you can chose how your character look.

But yeah it looks like a 2011 game so far, animations are pre-LA Noire/Red Dead and the lighting is slightly better than Skyrim.You don't play these games for the graphics though.
 
The opening video looked great but that crafting system thing made me not want to bother with the game. It looked way too time consuming and nothing to do with the story or action.

Except Fallout is not a FPS. Maybe you've never player Fallout and Fallout 2.

I noticed that VATS now doesn't stop time in Fallout 4, but it slows it down.

Back to back lol. I don't care much for the house building, but the weapon modding looks fantastic. I love the idea of taking a weapon that's fairly weak or only used for early game then beefing it up on par with the weapons found later on in the game.
 
I don't like voiced protag. The VO sounds boring in general and it only fits the preset model 1 or some variation of him. In Fallout I don't go for the typical white guy so having that voice coming out my character is going to ruin some of the immersion. The same problem I had in Dragon Age: Inquistion where my character looked great but I hated every time he opened his mouth. I didn't mind it in Mass Effect since if you tried to make a character beyond the default model you would get a walking disaster. However, just by looking at the few presets I can tell there will be a wide variety of customization options but it sucks that'll be limited to 1 VO (I know there're a chance that they might have more than 1 but I'm not holding on it). The lack of voice protag never bothered me in RPGs like this since usually I would read the option and my brain will play it out how I would imagine that character would speak, as if I was reading a book.

I think this is an excellent idea, to be honest. VATS is way too powerful in its current form. If (big IF) Bethesda managed to fix the horrendous shooting dynamics, this may force the player to make tactical decisions on the fly.

You realize that you don't have to be the ethnicity of a character to voice act for them right? A white guy can voice a black or asian guy.

You're not getting it because they threw in a completely optional(which Howard even emphasized) extensive crafting system?

I might have to take a break from GAF during E3. I don't know if I can take it and not give up on humanity.

Settlement system makes sense considering in Fallout 1 the game ends with you setting the stage for building Arroyo that is the home of the Fallout 2 protagonist. look at everywhere else, you don't need to wander, the wasteland is now being domesticated

BUT

What the hell was up with the dialogue system? And the ugly green?
Will we only have 4 responses per NPC? The hell? What about skill checks?

Fallout without it's legendary storytelling is just DAYZ
 
It looks pretty good. That said Bethesda still has some uncanny facial and body work (though offset this time since all conversations are in third person and you don't have to have a dead-eyed NPC staring at you) and I feel like the protag's voices and lines are done in such a way to seem like they just realized "hey we can have our protagonist talk". It sounded so out of place.

I'm still excited.

One of the buttons will probably be like a "more options..." choice, if there are more than 4 possible dialogue choices.

At least I hope so. Limiting dialogue choices because of a stupid dialogue system would be terrible.

Jetpack looked like a flamer attached to his back... hilarious!

Good on GAF for essentially predicting who the protagonist was and that we start the game Pre-War
Will be interesting to play as a married person (or possibly not and it's just fluff)
 
Besides those worries/gripes I have above, the game looks amazing. The graphics look amazing thanks to par of the great art direction and level of detail. Nothing in Witcher 3 looks this astounding (not technically of course). I can not wait to fully explore this world. Fallout 3 is still one of the most memorable games I played last gen that only is matched with the Souls game.

Do you mean the text?
Green was always the default colour, you could change it in the previous games though.

If you don't feel that the past games allowed you to have actual conversations then I'd say you lack imagination. You might not actually say the words of dialogue options you choose in past Fallout games, but I always found myself pretending that I was saying it myself as I was reading a dialogue option. That internal monologue was a huge part of Fallout for me and was one of the reason why I found it so immersive.

Now I have no choice but to listen to a stranger's voice for the entirety of the game. I mean, he opens the fridge and comments on the Nuka Cola bottles...why? I want to comment on that myself in my head, and anything else I experience in the game. As I said before, it's just a huge immersion-breaker for me. They have all of these pre-set dialogue options, yet they talk about making the experience "your own". :/

And I don't wanna sound like a whining asshole here, this is literally the only thing I didn't like the look of from the entire presentation. Everything else looks incredible.

Yeah but it was a sickly radioactive green... which makes sense but we will probably be able to change it. Also, customizable settlement names please! You Have Discovered GAF-VILLE

One more thing, will the collector's edition Pip Boy be made of leather?
 
Oh my god a voiced protagonist and paraphrased dialogue? Fuck off! Pulling some Bioware shit right there. The game looks cool but that's just to big an issue for me. I'll wait for the summer sale next year or find some deals around release.

Oh come on, no need for the condescending attitude. I've played plenty of Fallout 1 & 2 actually. Yes, they are RPG's first, but shooting (in first person) is just as big an aspect in Fallout 3 as any other element. Didn't you see the gameplay trailer in the OP? What was its focus again?

I simply stated that I wasn't a big fan of VATS. It didn't ruin the game for me though, I was just hoping for something else this time or perhaps simply its removal. When VATS is on cooldown and you had your bullets missing your target by miles even though your cross-hair was right on target was an act of frustration. I think I preferred playing Fallout 3 with the mod that took VATS out and replaced with a slow-motion/bullet-time button.

From the look of it, like you pointed out, Fallout 4 slows down now too. That looks like an improvement but I can't tell for sure without actually having played it.

That does not sound like something I'll enjoy :(

Entirely optional, you won't be forced into doing it if you don't enjoy it. And I'm pretty sure there'll be some ready-made set pieces for those who just want it done and dealt with asap.

Dunno if this means anything, but the Perception stat in the gameplay footage only stated that it affects accuracy during VATS.

So I'm hoping real time gunplay is based on player skill and the innate stats of specific weapons to calculate the accuracy of your shots, like in any other FPS.
 
Some of the salty posts are incredible here, from people calling it trash to being 'offended' by the graphics.

Anyways, love that they took the concept from the Settler mod on FO3 and made it integrated gameplay. Crafting system look incredible and I'm really glad they decided to not going the green-filter route for the visuals this time around. I was satisfied by the gunplay in FO3 and this looks more of the same.

More accurate to call it Settlement building, and as its been said, its not a piece of core gameplay, its just a side item.
 
Todd Howard delivered, shorted announcement to release than Skyrim. Also no way this will ever come out on ps360, they were right, what they are doing isn't possible on last gen.
 
I got to the part with the guy at the door peddling vault information. I couldn't watch any more. This looks like it's going to be so fucking good and I can't believe it's coming out later this year. I'm so damn excited for this.

It's quite simple, don't play it like that,

They've said it's entirely optional, if you don't like it don't do it. Don't try to shit on the idea because it doesn't apply just to you, as far as I am aware the mod for this in 3/NV was a pretty well endorsed mod that quite a lot of people liked.

The whole point of Bethesda's games is do whatever the Hell you want, it's always been like that to an extent, and this fits in with Fallout more then TES honestly, it's a nuclear wasteland and you're trying to survive by any means necessary.

Yes, that sounds plausible.

It's still kind of a bummer to me that they put so much effort into something I don't particularly like as a gameplay mechanic. Either way, still siked and who know's? Maybe I'll like the base building!

Can't wait to watch that footage. Good cure for that monday blues!
 
I am gonna have to take a whole week off work for this bad boy. November of this year holy shit....

Fallout 3 was in my top 5 of last gen games, along with Skyrim. Holy shit what an announcement.

500 hours incoming.
