Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

Yeah, i mean, i even like that Pipboy+iPhone app stuff but that line was completely cringeworthy, unnecessary and out of place rotfl

From what I remember of the way he delivered it, I don't think it was a premeditated shot at Nintendo, but he is there to promote his Fallout 4 app i.e. "trust us, this one isn't a stupid gimmick, for those who think it's a gimmick" (even though it probably is)

I loved the look of pretty much everything except the dialogue wheel. I really don't like that dialogue system.

The number of times I've selected an option expecting my character to say one thing, only for them to say almost the exact opposite is far too many. It's an infuriating system.

I wonder what it's going to look like on PC.

Female Protags VA sounds really good though compared to Lame Protag
Meant to write male but typed too fast and wrote lame which is fitting so it stays
. It feels like every game that lets you choose gender and has a voiced protag is always noticeably better done with the female option. Male option isn't bad, but it's no female.

I look forward to her screaming obscenities while I murder wastelanders.

I always feel like a strange outlier in which I enjoyed FO3 more than NV. I couldn't even finish New Vegas. I was just "gripped" more by FO3 and that wasn't evident during my time in NV.

Maybe it's a Bethesda thing? Maybe a product of it's time?

Then I'm a strange outlier too. Had way more fun with Fallout 3 than with Fallout New Vegas.

This build a home thing sucks. Where's explore the wasteland and headshot/dismember/gib random npcs? Don't want to spend my time playing Suzie homemaker. Meh.

Wasteland 2 was better.

Same. The big problem I had with NV was that as soon as I found the strip I felt like my exploration had peaked. It was difficult to muster the enthusiasm to move forward after that as no other destination could hold the same intrigue. The draw of discovery plays the biggest part in my enjoyment of these games and having one area literally outshine the rest took me out of it. I honestly would've preferred if Obsidian had swerved us all by hyping up the strip and making it an event to gain entry only to discover that it had been leveled or even have it be destroyed shortly after arriving.

Boston is one of my favorite cities so I'm very much looking forward to 4.

Two things I have learned from this and the previous gaf thread regarding fallout.

1. People love to announce they liked fo3 more than nv.

and

2. People love to hate on bethesda.

I guess I am already getting used to the absurd amount of negativity, that is way in disproportion to what we even know about the game, at least.

He said something like "this is a stupid gimmick too but it's the best one ever, it's just awesome", which was a clever/fun way of advertising his product, it's the line before it that looked like a shot at Nintendo, but it's entirely possible that i'm reading way too much into this :p
I'd also love it if Nintendo would answer to that in a playful way but i'm sure they won't, that's why i found it unnecessary (again, if it's true that he was pointing at them), otherwise could've been a fun trash talk episode haha

PS: that gif is awesome lol

Buying day 1 of course, but I have a sinking feeling this will be pushed back to December or Q1 of next year. Just can't take initial release date announcements seriously anymore.

The negativity is hilarious. I'm not sure what people were expecting. This reveal blew any preconceptions I had about FO4 completely out of the water.

Yeah, it's just.. Goddamn it. I'm not sure if it's obvious to native speakers, but I have no idea what kind of reaction something like "you're a mutt" could be, for example. Is it pitying the dog? Angry at the dog? What the fuck

Like I said, I expect I'm gonna have to quick save before every conversation. Not because of the idiotic percentage-based speech checks this time around, but because of ambiguous bullshit like this.

I'm surprised why it's so hard for you to see how the writing could make or break a game for others, then
Yeah, hte dialogue and conversation system are my major worries. The system in particular looks really bad.

Wasteland 2 was better.

Don't then.

It's not like it's a massive open world with loads of things to do and everything is optional.

Oh wait.

So, will you play Fallout 4, knowing last three games were mediocre?

I'll wait for impressions from people I trust. I'm not that excited for it though.

Of course they are. That's why they sell and review so poorly.

That doesn't change my opinion of their games.

Did the better story, quests and dialogue do so much for you in FNV then? It's kind of hard to believe.

Yes?

It's because they usually go for the generic gruff voice when casting the male variant. You can only hear that type of voice so many times before they all start to sound the same.
I'll agree the Female protag doesn't sound bad, from what little I"ve heard of her.

Animation quality was better albeit still Bethesda.
Graphics are decent, though the complete crafting system and open world make me forgive a lot.
And voicework, typical Bethesda. I'm not really bothered.

Absolutely excited, now just promise me that PC isn't having that damn 60hz problem again.
Also, bugs incoming.

Build your wasteland theme park, arranging furniture and hanging power lines just so? Go play Sims and leave that shit out of Fallout. Saw very little gibbage.

This is just complaining for the sake of complaining, smh.

If you don't want to build a house, don't! Go and gib people all you want, it's not like the sole focus of the game is building now.

He says specifically in that building video that it's optional and just one part of a huge game and immediately afterwards goes into talking about building multitudes of custom guns.

Wasteland 2 was better.

Good thing then that he underlined it how building outposts and such is 100% optional and not required to progress game.

It was ridiculous, but saying games by Beth suck and the one game by Obsidian is great is stupid when they are almost the same. At least the slander guy was consistent lol :)

Sure they're almost the same except for the better story, writing, characters, world, you know, pretty much everything that makes an RPG good.

Just about everything from the reveal blew me away. Seriously. It's almost overwhelming how much shit this one is going to have. Graphics looked really good imo too.

Well said. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either racist or tricked by racist Hollywood.

There's definitely a type of voice that seems exclusive to black men in my experience. And it has nothing to do with way of speaking, but rather the quality or "timbre" (not sure if that's the right word for it) of the voice. Far from all black men has that type of voice though, peoples voices vary greatly after all. But I have never heard a white guy with the same type of voice.

Liked a good amount of what I saw, except for the voiced protagonist and shitty dialogue wheel, I wasn't expecting them to get on Obsidian's level or anything but the route they've chosen is the one direction I hoped they wouldn't for this series. Unsure on the Sims-esque homebuilding business, will wait and see on that one but I did like the weapon & power armour customisation. Visuals and overall aesthetic were spot-on.

I love the homebase stuff. Do people have a problem with Mother Base aswell? Because I don't think I've seen anything negative about that. Similar concept.

Dogmeat the cutie single handedly justifies purchasing this game.

Although a revamped, modern combat system and what looks like an astoundingly complex crafting system certainly don't hurt. The new character models look much better than those of FO3 or FNV. And hey, power armor that actually changes gameplay! That's always nice.

My problem with the trailers is that the placeholder white male protagonist used in the trailers is just painfully generic and boring.

Sure they're almost the same except for the better story, writing, characters, world, you know, pretty much everything that makes an RPG good.

LOL, the difference is in very small points, not leaps and bounds. Both have average writing, some of the quest design in NV is better, the world in both is very good, the lack of unmarked locations in NV is a downgrade.

Seriously, I don't see how anyone can say with a straight face that the Bethesda games are mediocre, and NV is anything above slightly more than mediocre. They are just too similar.

You've seen nine minutes of the game and a trailer.
This is a particularly bad post in a thread full of bad, kneejerk, poorly considered posts.

And there is not a single thing in all of those trailers that suggests that this will be in any way materially different to other Bethesda games. There is a huge amount to suggest

There is an aesthetic and a mentality that pervades all of the Bethesda open-world games. Similarly, there is a remarkably similar marketing drive that amps up disproportionate hype for all of these games leading up to their release.

Everyone is judging this game over the same content. Given how similar all of this promotional material is to everything that has come before it, I think the onus is on people who would suggest that this is fresh or new to prove it.

I'm really hoping there are more things to see and explore like Fallout 3.

I'm one of those that loved Fallout 3 over New Vegas and the primary reason was that for all the 'good' writing the game had it was clearly at the expense of making the Mojave an actually interesting place to explore. New Vegas was a massive disappointment on that front and the main reason I played it significantly less than Fallout 3.

The Mojave was truly a boring wasteland compared to the Capital wasteland due to the fact it simply did not compare to the amount of places you could go to and explore. For every one area you had to explore in New Vegas you had 5 in Fallout 3 and they were all individually more interesting than the one you found in NV.

I think we're just on different wavelengths man.

Base building isn't generally something I care for. It almost always results in being tedious or a pointless time sink. This looks capable on a technical level, so that is promising, but unless there is an appreciable benefit to base building and developing a settlement I can't see myself really taking part in it.

That said, if there is a worthwhile gain from spending time developing your home and settlement, defending it and so on that goes beyond just getting some cooler loot I can also see myself sinking an irresponsible amount of time into it.

So right now it's a tossup between something I won't bother with beyond the point of just seeing how it works to spending many many hours perfecting my homes and communities.

Combat looks fun.
I don't expect great quest lines or dialogue from Bethesda.
It's all about exploration and shooting stuff.

Graphics are good enough. People demanding better graphics, specially on consoles forget that it comes with a price. I'd rather have a so so looking game running smooth than a fancy one stuttering.

That's cool buddy. I don't see how anyone can actually believe any of the crap you just wrote but that's fine I guess.
3 and NV couldn't be further apart in terms of story, quest design, dialogue and world building.

It's easy to make a world full of stuff to explore when you don't give a shit about coherency.
