Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

This move might put Xbox on top in the US for good. Sony will have to answer.

Depends how many people care enough after a year and a half after its debut. The further you get from the last gen the less people care about it. Sony removed backwards comparability from the PS3 and it really didn't impact its sales.

Anyone know which games already work for preview members? I want to try it after the conference and I'm not going to try my entire collection. :p

Why is BC a big deal?

If you're new to XB1, you don't have 360 games. Sure, you could go buy some used ones, if you want. But if you already have 360 games, you probably still have your 360. It's a convenience thing, but it's not really adding to the experience.

To let everyone play the best version of RDR. That is this programs sole purpose. Fine by me. I can now put my Red Dead Redemption box away and just play it on my Xbone/Stream to PC.

I wonder if this'll be like the x360 original xbox BC where only a small portion of the library will be playable and a fraction of them will have serious issues.

Still, very exciting!

how are you even supposed to get invited to the preview program? i've been a gold member for like 8 years and MS won't throw me a bone

Hey sweet, I finally have more than KI to get me to turn on my XB1 now

Of course the only 360 games I still own are Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect 1 through 3

It's cool and all but I think people are overreacting about the impact of this.
Yup, this. Probably just a desperate move to stop former 360 players going PS4.
I honestly don't care about this at all. Way too used to 60 fps and FullHD gaming to go back now. I'd rather have a propper remaster.

Holy FING SHIT.

Listened to twitch audio on my way to work and can not believe what I heard, GAMECHANGER

The unfortunate downside is, not everything is supported. Remember XB BC support on XBOX360? It was pretty mediocre last time I heard about it.

People overhyping this like crazy. Honestly, how many people that own an XB1 are going to put in a 360 disc? And of those people, how many will do it more than a handful of times past the novelty stage? Yes, having the option available is better than not, but it's not a game changer. The average consumer isn't going to care and won't even know the feature exists.

People on forums like this seem to think they live in some bubble where everyone is in the know. I hate to break it to you, but the majority of people that buy game consoles have no idea what's going on. They don't visit game forums daily. They don't watch E3 conferences. They don't pick and scratch for every little detail they can find.

BC is nice to have but it's not going to tip the scales.

And before you all give me anecdotes of how you used PS3 BC and X360 BC a million times each, that's meaningless in the grand scheme of things. It's good for you but it's not a "megaton." You're not the majority. You're the minority. An extremely small minority at that.

I went an entire 360 generation not being able to play the only game I was interested in having backwards compatibility, MVP05. This is a wildly overrated feature, especially based on MS's track record with BC.

The big question is:

How is the emulation being done?! Is it totally software or streaming?

I honestly expect it will be a mixture of both. You will get the assets from the disc and the game engine will be run on Live.

Well, this will make the decision to pick up an Xbox One for Rock Band 4 DLC compatibility a little easier to take. Or it would, if the support were for more than a hundred games.

They announced that you can play old games on a new system, so they won? Come on...

Don't worry about statements like this. It happens every E3. Every time someone's personal care about gets mentioned people pretend like it's the biggest news in the history of gaming.

Meanwhile gaming as a whole marches on and nothing said at E3, outside of price drops, really means anything.

This is huge for a lot of people but not for me. Beyond the fact that I don't usually go back to games after I've played them out, I still have my 360 setup next to my X1. If it made the games look better, I'd be a lot more excited.

I just might buy xbone cause of this. I moved from 360 to ps4 and left a massive backlog of masterpieces. I just don't bother with the older consoles cause uh, I dont even know. This would also give me an excuse to get the exclusives.
