Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

Wow. Just wow.

They said I could just insert the retail discs and download the games. Does this mean everythng needs to be installed or could I just run the game from the disc too?

Fantastic news either way, my far too big 360 library suddenly has some meaning again.

im thinking about the details on execution, like for example, I have a phisical media of a game that applies, if I give it to my friend will he get the game for free on xbox one as well?

Im holding out maximum hype levels until the details emerge, but holy shit first time ever I am considering picking up an xbox one.

Better run to GameStop and stock up while prices are cheap. I expect GS to raise prices on all 360 games now.

I would imagine you will need the disc in to play it like Xbox One retail games.

Man, seemed super awesome!......... Then said it was on select titles which brought it down.

I would like this on ps4, but the reality is that I really don't want to go back to ps3 games at all.

So it's cool, but not a game changer for me. Not really am incentive to get an xb1.

As a owner of a jp 360 and shmups, I guess this doesn't change anything, since those won't ever be supported. (and never have less or same lag as on 360 anyways)

No I heard the Same Put your disc in, download the Game for no Charge and play the Game on your Xbone. Thats really great so this is MS official good bye to 360. Sorry im on Phone and Auto correct is Not english

Approval probably has to do with licensing deals. The game was licensed to run on an Xbox 360 and not an Xbox One.

I can see this being great if the GWG 360 games are also available to play on Xbox One.

Pretty good. Finally a solid move from MS. I would love this from Sony as that would mean i could pack my ps3.

This and hololens were the highlights of MS conference for me.

That's my understanding. You will have to keep the disc in the console to act as a DRM check though.

I see. Not the ideal form emulation and not as exciting as I initially thought, but really cool nonetheless. I'm guessing Sony can't do anything similar to this because of the PS3's crazy architecture.

Anyway, whenever I get an Xbox One, I'll be buying the 360 version of some of the supported games that I've never played. Many of these games should be cheap now.

Wonder how many of these will make it in?

probably not enough for you to pack up your x360 if you already have it hooked up

Sony has to match this move in some way. At least allow us to play our already purchased digital PS2 and PSX games natively on the PS4. No need to bring Playstation Now into this.

Yeah, not gonna lie, the BC thing kinda stings. Had they announced this 3 E3's ago, I'd own an XB1 now instead of a PS4. But, it's a little late. I already made the switch and still have my X360 to play those games on. Also, if it's anything like the emulation they did on the 360 to allow BC of the Original Xbox stuff... pass. That code was garbage. And slow to release the games that I owned. And then promptly dropped.

But, if my X360 ever dies, I can buy an XB1 down the line and transfer 'some' of my games over.

I always find the reactions to backwards compatibility strange. It's a nice thing to have, but is it really that big of a deal? I mean I suppose if you have an Xbox One you can get rid of your 360 now, but it's not going to fetch much money and consoles don't take up that much space. *shrug*

Seems like this would've been really exciting two years ago. As of now, I'm struggling to think of any 360 games I'd want to touch again, other than maybe the few exclusive JRPGs.

Gamechanger for me if they keep on working at it and will not drop it after the first batch. If I can play lets say 80% of my library on the One (including Arcade Games) I would give MS mad probz for that. Willing to wait a couple of years till 80% would be reached, but if they drop it like with the 360 this makes no difference at all. Then I will keep my 360 hooked up.

If it really is a matter of devs opting-in and doesn't take work on their part, maybe the games will be supported.

But yeah, I'm curious if they'll be any laggier. I'll do tests if that day comes.

Wut???

Does that also mean original xbox games also work?

I have Jet set Radio Future that ran on the 360.Will that also work?

OMG!

So it's selective backwards compatability just like the xbox 360 was with original xbox games? kind of a big letdown after that announcement and hype.

I don't have a 360 any more, but I do still have a load of games hanging around. This makes it far more likely I pick up an xbox one (still fairly unlikely though).

Does this actually natively render the games at 1080p? Or does it just upscale the games from their initial resolution?

I hope this gets broken open and helps the PC emulation scene.

OK, I didn't think of that. This means 360 emulation is totally doable and it doesn't need premium rigs.

It's up to the developer if it will be available on Xbox One. If it ain't there, it's the developers choice.

It's all about the XBLA library for me, I miss it badly and would definitely buy a XBO to complement my ps4 if I can have access to most of that again.
