This is 2 years too late to be a megaton lol Will that many people really care after playing 1-2 games?
This thread is hilarious. Backward compatibility for a subset of Xbox 360 games (not a native HW solution to cover all games) on a 2 year old console is a "Game Changer"? Really? I mean really! So suddenly being able to play your old games that you've already been playing for 10 years is going to change the tide in the console war. LOL. I really can't believe what I'm hearing.
Sure, BC is nice and it makes upgrading for those who HAVEN'T yet a bit easier to swallow. But this isn't 2013 guys. If this was announced prior to XB1 launch, that would have been a game changer. But in 2015 with the sales deficit XB1 is in, you guys are saying the killer app to make people upgrade is not a cool new feature or new exclusive software, but BC with old Xbox 360 games?! Hilarious.
With all the HD remasters going around and the trickle of releases that X360 gets currently, BC is even less important. But since when has BC been a game changer? PS3 launched with the ability to play ANY playstation game from PS1 and PS2 day 1 and did that do anything to allow it to dent into X360 marketshare? It was so valuable in fact that Sony removed it within a year and nobody even blinked. Microsoft tried SW emulation before too with X360 and how many people bought a 360 to play Halo on Xbox? Oh how can I forget how the Virtual Console allowed the Wii to win the last generation console war and kept the WiiU in the hunt this generation. Yeah...game changer
I honestly can't see how this is considered anything more than a nice-to-have feature. This is especially true because it is only coming out 2 years after the start of the new gen. Anybody that is still interested in their old games has a 360 to play them. Hell I've got two of them. All this does is give you a little more space under the TV.
They said in the conference that no work was required on their part, they just need their permission
They've not really mentioned the details, I assume it's not quite proper BC but they have to recompile the game or something. Why do I have to download the game? Why can`t they be played from the disc, like the 360 does?

They said that all games should work but that they require permission from the creators before implementing the game.
It makes sense that they wouldn't want to risk leaking this announcement by reaching out to every dev before making it.
I'm hoping at a minimum to at least see all or near-all of the Microsoft lineup. Which would mean I'd get to play Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on it, and thus actually get through Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey... well, I could polish up the last few achievements if the fancy strikes I guess. It sounds like optimised emulation like they did with Xbox on 360. The effort is on MS's end but the final say is on the publisher to give the final OK. Now with remasters they also have an extra incentive to refuse. BUT.
I thought Phil said natively.we dont know yet. it could be emulation (unlikely),dynarec ( more likely) re-compiled executable ( likely ) or streaming( likely).
Phil said on stage it requires no work from devs, they just need permission to activate it.

Lol at people being super hyped when this sad list is it.
The wording still implies each title has to be supported manually, otherwise all games would just work already.
So it's basically PS2 Classics on PS3 but not having to pay for games you already own. Cool...but no guarantee all my games will be supported.
Then why isn't that list bigger?
If this was the factor, then they wouldn't have issues with internal studios and should have those.
I mean they had to reach out to Bioware for Mass Effect. Why no ME2 and ME3?

was i the only one listening when he said you put in the disc & download the game? lol
How will our save files work I wonder.
He's right though. It's sad that this is something that people are getting hyped about instead of being pissed that it took them this long to implement it. If they can do this shit now, they should have been preparing this type of thing at or around launch. People shouldn't be cheering for this shit, they should be rolling their eyes and saying "Well it's about fucking time."dude take a chill pill, you sound mad salty.
As Beanie Sigel said; Stop.........chill............ relax
was i the only one listening when he said you put in the disc & download the game? lol
Can i go buy dragons dogma and play since im a preview member?
The real question is: how will Dragon's Dogma run on Xbox One? Gamechanger!
Fuck me. Better have dragons dogma
So just to make sure I'm understanding things right, if you put a supported game's disc int XB1, it doesn't actually play off of the disc, but gives you the license to download the digital version?
We'll know when they release the actual feature, the list right now is small but will grow as long as MS doesn't basically drop the feature like they did with Xbox BC on 360 eventually.I'm hoping at a minimum to at least see all or near-all of the Microsoft lineup. Which would mean I'd get to play Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on it, and thus actually get through Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey... well, I could polish up the last few achievements if the fancy strikes I guess.
