As someone who's a huge critic of the writing and story throughout the MGS series, the writing in the long trailer is actually pretty solid.

Most of it is solidly written homage to Orwell's 1984 and other lingo-focused classics and dystopian fictions.

All a lot better than his previous showings

Yeah, same, I'm not going to get my hopes up at all. In quite a few ways this trailer disappointed me – some of the moments looked pretty ridiculous and kinda odd in ways I didn't expect/didn't impress me.

However, in most ways I'm so fucking on board it's not even funny

I feel the exact same way. I still have Witcher 3 to play and will have Batman when it comes out but nothing is going to satiate the need for MGS V. I need to be put in to a cryosleep for 70 odd days. Hold me GAF.

IIRC, Soldius was created after Solid and Liquid but he aged rapidly but was old enough to become the U.S. president by the events of MGS1.

There probably would be no Solidus by this point, but they would need to start the cloning sooner than later.

The moral of MGS2, or at least one of them, was that all narrators and narratives are unreliable because... it's fiction! Canonicity is a farce, All that matters are the thoughts and feelings it inspired in you.

That's an excellent reading of it.

And yes we know he's a phantom at least once with mask on - in one of the trailers, when he's behind Snake on Mother Base, he's there on the left of Snake's shoulder, then when the camera pans right he's not there.
