depends on the consumer. for let's say a more hardcore gamer with sufficient disposable income, between steam sales and everything coming out on it generally better and with more control schemes, it's kind of a no-brainer

most people are not hardcore, and don't have that sort of income to blow on games. That is why Sony is winning with just 3rd party support. its not hard to understand.

Gears is coming this year?

Gears 1 remaster is, yeah.

I dunno, I'm mellow on the Sony one. I watch a Sony conference to see Sony games, not 3rd party games. I was really hoping to see Ratchet since that's one of my favorite series. I would have preferred them cut an hour and focus on first party rather than spend so much time on 3rd party and multiplats. My current ratings would be

Sony B
Microsoft B-
Bethesda C+
Ubisoft C-
EA raging dumpster fire

I only check out GB a couple times a year and I know why. These guys look like they were atheists attending a fucking bible study. Zero excitement with negative garbage mixed in.

These clowns are old news man. I'm watching GT Live right now and at least Huber and Bosman show some enthusiasm for their fucking profession.

GB isn't wrong that their 1st party is dire this year. next year? Next year looks great! This year it's maybe NMS....maybe The Witness....UC4 is next year....

Although I never saw the PS family as a strong 1st party console. That's just me.

I completely agree with what they're saying. It was a great conference in terms of an emotional response but it doesn't fix the first party issues that Sony currently has. Plus the second half of the conference loses steam compared to the amazing first half.

They aren't shitting and being negative for the sake of it. They are analysing the conference with actual rational, non-fanboy points of view. Everything they are saying is extremely valid. Some of you are dumb.

I've only seen the Bethesda, Microsoft, and Sony conferences. Bethesda's was OK, but I thought both Microsoft and Sony really outdid themselves.

I want to know how those games play.

Guardian looks like a Ico with a giant flying dog thing. Which is cool. I liked that. Horizon... I'm still not sure. Monster Hunter? Open World? The Last Of Us with Robo-Dinos? Could go either way. Still interested. FFVII, well, yeah. Shenmue, also a known quantity. No Man's Sky? I get what you can do, but what do you do? Firewatch? Who knows, but I'll buy it probably anyway.

I dunno. A lot of immediately exciting things that turned in on themselves once I started thinking about them a bit. Let's see what the blitz tells us.

Damn good conference though.

GB talking over press conf this year has been really boring. Nobody really enthused about anything but instead being cynical all the way through. This is not really the way I want to enjoy E3.

Like we get it, you guys play all your stuff on PC. That's great.

The point wasn't that. It was that someone looking at the three options...if everything is coming out on PC also and you can have the better graphics, better pricing...why do you choose the Sony platform if they aren't getting the first party exclusives behind it? PC has lots and lost of exclusives as long as you are willing to hit the middle tier of development where everything isn't top production quality.

Why you no mention Horizon? You know, that elephant in the room right now.

Oh yeah sorry I should have mentioned that. And Giantbomb was raving over that trailer, they clearly loved it. But that's almost certainly not this year and that's what the were talking about specifically.

Edit: Actually it's definitely not. It's a 2016 so far.

Damn they are hitting some nerves.

You have to be a fanboy to exhibit enthusiasm?

Their cynicism is just depressing, sorry. It's not about fanboying it up, it's about giving props where it's due instead of snarking it up as always. Can't you just applaud a job well done?

If this was like EA or Ubi's conference then I understand, but I don't know that it works here.

I personally agree with them. It was a great feel-good conference, but if you have a gaming pc, there still isn't a reason to get a ps4. And there were a ton of big announcements, but almost no dates, which makes me skeptical we'll see these games in the near future. And there's so many games that they announced previously that have disappeared (Rime, WiLD, the Witness) that I don't really feel anything good from this conference

Them talking about the lack of first party on PS4 this year makes me think they really underestimate the amount of people who don't have the means or desire to make that initial upfront investment on a gaming PC that would truly outclass the PS4. I'm sitting here, a mac user, with no real intention on dropping the cash to build a really good gaming PC. Perfectly content with my PS4, I buy a game, put it in, end of story, and good god I have a lot to play this year.

Yeah, they're the clowns.

GB has nothing but good to say about that.

Accept for the blonde dude who goes, "then I saw the Guerilla and was all like,. ohhhhhh" in a condescending diatribe to say that killed his hype for what he saw.

And the others in the panel, crickets. I would have called that out.

Don't forget we should be building Steam Machines instead of getting a PS4.

They got fair points generally, some people feel like a debuff has been cast on them by listening to them. I don't think it is really relevant to me but you can HAVE ALL THE REACTION VIDEOS ON THE INTERNET.

i guess hyperbole was today's steam sale

Because convenience trumps all.

GAF has a strange inability to accept anyone who doesn't subscribe to the exact strain of nostalgia they dance around, and takes offence by anyone not sufficiently bowled over by said nostalgia to muster any kind of insight.

In general though, I think console exclusives don't matter as much as the media and hardcore fans make them out to be. Sony balanced their year by putting their stamp on what are going to be two of the best selling games this year: BLOPS and Battlefront. PS4 is going to be all over all of that marketing and the might of Activision and EA's machine.

Won't surprise me at all when Sony continues to outsell and they still have a price cut in their back pocket.

The guys at Giant Bomb are just keeping it real, it's always nice to hear level headed people analyse things in a professional way, and not get stunned by the bells and whistles.

That's what I get from GB at least.

Can we continue to talk about how amazing Johnny V is? His earnestness is about as endearing as anything. I want that man to succeed in everything he does.

Johnny V, Todd Howard, and string cat guy were all blew it out of the park when it came to presenting.

GAF has a strange inability to accept anyone who doesn't subscribe to the exact strain of nostalgia they dance around, and takes offence by anyone not sufficiently bowled over by said nostalgia to muster any kind of insight.

Look, it's only fucking disappointing when companies focus on pandering to 3rd parties when it's MS that's doing it.

one is asking for a lot more money upfront. its an easy argument to put down. ps4=560. PC= 700-1000 (if you build it), if you are not building it then more than that. No reason to spend that money if you can spend less and not have to build a pc.

GOTS forerunners so far are Fallout 4 and Horizon in my opinion.

Firewatch, Dishonored 2 and No Man's Sky are all interesting, but they either don't present as well on stage or didn't offer enough details/gameplay.

If by "everyone else" you mean preteens on twitter

Because preteens like Shenmue 3, Final Fanasy 7, and a supposedly dead game from 2009. The guys are being harsh, but not unfair, but the audience for these titles are firmly in the older market.

what games did they think were coming this year? with how long production cycles are, what could possibly have been out by the end of the year that wasn't announced? they just had this argument loaded up and ready to go. easy to take potshots.

To me, after seeing what ND did with The Last of Us, I would've rather have seen them put out a brand new IP than a fourth Uncharted game.

I loved all the Uncharted PS3 games and Uncharted 4 may be the game that gets me to buy a PS4 (if I don't own one at that point), the demo today looked fantastic, but I guess a new IP from ND would still be far more interesting to me. But hopefully that's what's due up next after Uncharted 4, so I don't mind a little extra wait.

Yeah I get that in a way, but I guess I just have a problem with people wanting something more when something is already announced so you have to wait anyway unless they scrapped the game. I think I just have a view on this industry that's more like I take things as they come and if something interesting I'll play and possibly want more.

I'm perfectly fine with people having those views though, but because of how I think and view games these day I probably can't really understand that kind of stuff well enough.

is it getting worse or am I getting older?

They're making totally fair points.

Sony's big announcements this year, as hype inducing and legendary as they are, are for a cult game that was supposed to come out half a decade ago and still isn't finished, a PS1 remake we know absolutely nothing about and could be years and years away, and a Kickstarter for a project that they may or may not be really affiliated with, and like all Kickstarters the game barely exists right now beyond scraps of assets and Suzuki's old unfulfilled dreams.

It's effective headline grabbing hype and all super neat (and unbelievable) things on their own, but it does seem a bit like a smoke and mirrors act.

That's what I get from GB at least.

When your first takeaway from THAT conference was "where was morpheus" then you're not professional, you're just trolling.
