I get where the GB crew is coming from in regards to the relative drought in Sony first party studios output this year. But at the same time, for me personally, the Sony conference was by far the most exciting. Austin summarized it great with the discussion of the exciting new games and the far fetched nostalgic projects that most had written off as a lost cause.

To me I'm not bothered that Sony is lacking in first party games this year. I've got a gaming PC and am perfectly happy buying 3rd party games on both PC and PS4. I'm sure it's a different story for someone who committed solely to PS4 as their platform of choice, without a PC or Wii U as a secondary system.

Austin nailed it when he quoted that twitter guy who said this conference was fanfiction.

Wow, and I thought my reaction was OTT. But I'm not gonna act like they're assholes for their natural reaction to the news.

If anyone was expecting that from GB though, there was no chance of that. They get excited for games, but rarely ever to that physical level. Its just not in their personalities, for the most part it isn't in mine either.

I don't think the crew has some Microsoft bias, I just think their analysis of the state of the gaming market and what drives console sales is really, really off.

Yeah, it's like, PS4 has been killing it on the sales front when their biggest first party titles have been Bloodborne (which came out 2 months ago) and a Last of Us Remaster. Saying "I can just play that on PC or Xbox" might be a legit complaint for someone who owns every console, but sales aren't driven by people who buy every console.

Brad questioned why anyone would pickup a PS4 over a gaming PC due to the lack of exclusive games on the PS4.

I mean just Jeff talking about how little CoD exclusivity matters shows me how off base he is. CoD is still fucking huge. They act like Batman, Star Wars, Destiny and CoD exclusive content doesn't matter when it very obviously does.

If Brad really said that he does not understand the game market at all.

When is the bombcast starting tonight? I've been so behind on everything today that I missed all their schedules and I don't see it in the OP.

This can't be quoted enough. Yeah this is much better than giantbomb

I'll stick with the adults.

Did we know there was a new Hitman coming?

I actually quite enjoyed Absolution, it was the best splinter cell game I've played in awhile /hides

There's no counter-arguing in this thread. Just a lot of typing the word "cynicism" and calling them grumpy and tired. They brought up several valid points that are all worth discussing, I don't see what the problem is.

Its easy. The average consumer cares about COD and Batman, that is why they are there. There does not need to be 7 first party games filling the void as of right now.

Build a pc? 12-16 year olds do not have the disposable income to do so, nor do many people know how to build one in order to even get one for 700-1000$ that is worth the money. that is not even the end of PC's being inherently more complicated then plugging in a console/patch/go.

VR is boring to demo and has no reason to be on stage (it is something you have to use yourself to know how cool it can be). We saw the reaction to MS doing it, and the same would have happened with Sony. Watching somebody have a headset on and a direct feed coming out on screen is boring and nothing special is shown.

It isn't hard to argue down their points, just like it is easy to argue my points also. Nothing of significance is said if everybody just agrees with each other. Sony doesn't need first party titles to be successful. They have already proven this so far this gen.

I can't believe how out of touch he is on CoD exclusivity. It's really weird.

If their opinion is that lack of first party content in the second half of 2015 is going to be a problem for Sony they're dead wrong.

Yep, cause it can be spun in saying MSFT's lack of first party the other 3/4 of the year should be a problem. Has any gaming journalism talked about that? Or do they think consoles are won in only 2-3 months of the year?

Agreed. Their luxury is not the average consumer.

I don't think it can be argued that the Sony conference was the best so far.

Pft, i'd argue that. The Fallout 4 reveal has Bethesda's as #1 for me so far and I really enjoyed ReCore and Rare's Tale of Thieves from Microsoft's. I found those 2 better than Sony's, though I think Sony's was also good.

oh good we've reached the "let's prop up giant bomb by shitting on other sites" phase.
When a grown ass man says "Alright, I'm a professional." and then immediately follows it up by screaming like a teenage girl watching Paul McCartney walk off a plane at the height of Beatlemania, it's hard to take that person seriously as a professional.

If he seriously wants to be considered one, he should act like one. If he wants to look like some hyped Youtube dude, he can be, that's cool, but don't come around pretending like you have any integrity.

To be clear, I'm not slating the GT guys for their joy, I think it's awesome and we need that kind of optimism in the industry. Still, I would never go into a Giantbomb stream expecting these kinds of reactions.
A new Trackmania game got announced and Jeff didn't even flinch, same with Brad and the new Destiny DLC.

Brad says now Sony have to worry about Steam not just beating MS. I just hope they can get thru 2015 without the PS4 crumbling under the weight of hordes of consumers buying Steam machines and PCs.

I love Brad, and I love Giantbomb, but yeah, that was the legit dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.

The whole importance of first party is so weird to me when it's been proven how ultimately...unnecessary isn't the right word, but it doesn't really change all that much. Will Microsoft benefit in any way of having Tomb Raider this holiday, when it releases in the same death zone of Battlefront, Fallout 4 and Call of Duty? Does Sony really have a whole lot to gain by releasing Uncharted this year when there's SO MUCH coming out this holiday?

You do realize we're talking about games journalism right? I don't know how to break this to you but Jeff Gerstmann is not Walter Kronkite.

But when they talk about it they make it sound like its a problem for the market as a whole, and the fact is that's it's not. It's just a problem for people like them who own every system.

And if No Man's Sky makes 2015 it won't even be a problem for them. Also Persona 5.

Well it's a problem for me personally. I need a graphic card upgrade really badly, and since I own both XB1 and PS4 I was thinking of selling one of the two to fund my new graphic card since both consoles are pretty redundant IMO.

The poor showing on PS4's first party front might make my decision a lot easier.

I agree, although MLB is another exclusive that's sold very well for them.

If Sony were smart they would have held it back till November since apparently exclusives only matter if they came out in autumn.

GB singled it out a bunch. I thought it had their biggest, universal positive reaction of anything shown today.

Yep. Horizon received a bunch of positivity from them. Jeff had a few reservations about it being Guerilla Games, which I think is completely fair, since Killzone Shadow Fall was awful.

If Brad's comment had been "its super shit PS has a distinct lack of holiday first party games" that would be one thing, what he actually said was along the lines of "Sony needs fear the cold breath of the death titan Steam". For whats its worth the only first party i'm interested in was Uncharted 4 so I don't really have a horse in this bizarre race.

I'm surprised someone let them out of the Killzone dungeon. maybe Shadow Fall was such a dud that they decided it wasn't worth it anymore

It's like that video of the kid receiving a N64 for christmas and losing his mind, except this time it's a grown man, with a career, and none of the charm.

haha ouch
