They aren't beat by price though or time, the caveat you are forgetting is in order to get that price you have to research, build, hope to dear lord nothing is wrong with the parts you bought, then hope that the games you are buying work well with what you have, then if they do, hope some driver doesn't fuck everything up, etc. I have a PC and still do not exactly evangelize the platform because of its problems. It is not what the majority will put up with, and these guys are not bringing those points to light. Neither are you btw. Also it is easy to find console games on sale, sales are not specific to steam or the PC.

A console you plug in, buy subscription, patch, play. its that easy and nothing else needs to be done.

Come on man, you think the public is stupid, they're not that stupid.

If they can set up a PS4, they can set up a PC.

Sega seems like the type of company that will jump at the change to re-release the games on steam or something after the kickstarter is funded.

to their credit, they've done a pretty remarkable job of preserving a lot of older games. not always in the most ideal of formats (Crazy Taxi 360/pc), but the effort is still there.

Oh boy I watched the GB coverage and I just was so damn cynical during the whole thing. I mean GB just seems to feed that sentiment in me in general.
I love the stuff they're doing but I honestly felt a bit bad after that.

I then watched the gametrailers coverage of sony and damn. That was some genuine joy, fuck the cynicism I just want to be a kid looking forward to games again!
That one dude having genuine tears of joy for shenmue 3 that was something

I think the bigger problem is that the state of video game journalism is so shitty that you can't tell who is supposed to be comedic and who is supposed to be serious, and people actively come into places where people discuss websites who try and be serious and complain that they don't act like the people who are supposed to be comedic.

i didn't think giantbomb was a video games journalism site

Their biggest complaint was that the old shit looks old and not enough vr

Those sound like reasonable statements to make.

I'm especially concerned with vr. They crammed 3d down our throats one year, Move the other year, yet vr got almost as much time as the vita did. Kinda concerned about it if they're still planning on a 2015 release, less so if it's 2016

I thought Morpehus was always a 2016 release.

Oddly enough even though their systems seem to get the least amount of coverage on the site their reactions to the Nintendo E3 stuff seems to be the most fun the last couple of years. Mario Maker looks cool....all I need is a new Metroid and I will get a Wii U.

100%. Promise me new Metroid and I'm theirs. I mean, Super Mario Maker(with new open-world Zelda looming) just might be enough anyways.

Come on man, you think the public is stupid, they're not that stupid.

If they can set up a PS4, they can set up a PC.

a lot of them don't want to. There is a limit to what most people will spend on a gaming system, and $399 seems to be it judging by how well received Xbone and PS3 initially were. There's a very real divide between the two markets. There's a reason Sony and MS are fighting over "console exclusivity" and don't care about when/if games release on PC. They both know their markets.

Perhaps being part of a community is disagreeing when others say things but still generally enjoying having similar interests and topics of discussion!

The PC vs. Console debate is silly. The amount of effort is still a barrier. If there are more than two or three questions a consumer must ask before buying a product, that's too big of a barrier.

-I want to play this game!
"Okay do you own a Xbox One or PS4?"
-No
"Okay, well here's a list of games for each platform, if you've enjoyed more on one list, you should get that one."
-Okay thanks.

Meanwhile in PC land, I've built my own desktop PCs for the past 20 years, and I honestly couldn't tell you if I should upgrade my processor or graphics card first.

All that being said. That's not who Giant Bomb is speaking to. Giant Bomb is speaking to informed video game consumers. From an informed consumer perspective PC is the correct reccomendation. It's cheaper, better supported, and generally speaking more capable in every way.

The challenge with "judging" E3 is that it speaks to the general public and the enthusiast media. It's not for either side exclusively. So you hear about the exciting new physical shaders or whatever stupid technology crap they are talking about this year, you hear about boring games that look like an art exhibit come to life with absolutely no excitement. And then you see incredibly cinematic trailers from the FOURTH Batman game because only sequels sell. And awesome power fantasies from Call of Duty FIFTEEN because this industry is artistically bankrupt!

so 700-1000$ is cheaper than 550$? How so? In the long run depending on how many games you play/buy the console can still end up being cheaper.

No offense to GB, but I haven't been able to enjoy anything they release since Ryan passed away.

I tried to watch their Sony conference special but it was painfully boring. It's really disappointing too since I love GB more than anything Internet site.

Wouldn't the main factor of you being bored be that the Sony conference itself was boring to you? Since it's not like the Giant Bomb commentary is the main meal here. It's just some added spice.

Mario maker looks bonkers. Definitely looks like they are doing right by that game. It seems like this year might be the right time to jump in on the wii u. There are sure to be plenty of high value bundles and a pretty solid backlog of games to go back to.

So, it seems like it was a good thing I was at the theater and not watching the Sony conference with Giant Bomb because they were all a bunch of jaded mother fuckers, right? Ugh. I'm really getting tired of this shit on GB.

Where are you pulling this 700-1000 dollar range from? I built my PC for sub-500 and it's still running recent releases great.

since this didn't actually happen, no

Not wanting to is fine, but saying that it's a much more difficult endeavor is laughable, this isn't the 90's anymore, and in the 90's the teen in me built one so people really have no leg to stand on when they act like you need a degree to build one.

uh, excuse me? are you really saying that building a pc is as easy as setting up a PS4? like are you really saying that?

Yep, more time consuming, but someone that can buy and set up a PS4 can buy and set up a PC.

Do you still think we need audio cards or something?

They were pretty good during the conference but their post conference talk was some of the weirdest, off base analysis I've heard.

The 'Sony has no games' people are forgetting about Blops3, Battlefront and Fallout 4.

I mean, screw multi plats, there's still Person 5, Until Dawn, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Tearaway Unfolded and The Tomorrow Children coming as exclusives this year. "PS4 has nothing left coming this year" is flat out wrong. And up to now we've had Driveclub, The Order 1886 and Bloodborne.

I must come off as such a Sony fanboy but these factualy untrue statements just rub me the wrong way.

I mean, they pretty clearly are. As much as they joke around Gerstmann also breaks down the industry just as much, if not more than anyone else in the industry.

They have news stories, videos, opinion pieces, pretty much everything every other video game journalism site has. The only thing they lack in is reviews, because of their small staff. And if anything, the reviews they do have are some of the most reliable because they don't rush them out the door to make sure their website can get a bunch of clicks on the games release day.

If they weren't concerned about the journalism aspect of the site, they wouldn't have hired Patrick or Austin.
i didn't realize that taking shit seriously was the main point of watching e3 conferences
Maybe it's not for you. And that's fine. No one says everyone has to watch this stuff for the same reasons. But why do you feel the need to come in and put down a website that wants to take it seriously when you obviously have so many avenues to see the reactions you want to see out of E3?

how is the Witcher 3 on your machine?

you are beyond delusional if you think building a pc is as easy as opening a box and plugging in a system.

Who buys a system and only ever buys 2 games for it?

I know plenty of people who only buy madden, or COD. That is it.

I went back and watched the FF announcement on the GB stream and it really is odd how Brad (and to a lesser extent Alex) seem genuinely angry that they are remaking the game.

I felt the after-conference comments were a refreshing dose of realism to counteract the constant positivity that had been thrown out for the past two hours. Because ultimately, it helps to craft a more complete analysis.

Let's be honest, if you're going to spend the next few days chatting about TLG - nobody is going to bring up the fact that the visuals haven't aged all that well, and that the gameplay looks pretty standard. No, it's going to be cult-like gushing. Same with just about every other reveal shown off tonight. When its' positive, it's loudly positive. When its' negative, it's deafeningly negative. So if you want to counteract that, you need some people who are going to come at events from a level-headed, experienced perspective. That's what Giant Bomb offers.

A few of the comments were a little overly harsh though. Alex saying that Playstation answering so many fan requests was a reason to be concerned, needed a little more explanation. (You can see it as a company apologizing for a weak lineup, or you can see it as a company using success to make passion projects come to life). I also wasn't on board with the consensus that FF7 Remake is a fruitless endeavour.

Overall, it comes off as people who refuse to believe until they see something in person. In other words, people who have been burned by this shit before.

So, it seems like it was a good thing I was at the theater and not watching the Sony conference with Giant Bomb because they were all a bunch of jaded mother fuckers, right? Ugh. I'm really getting tired of this shit on GB.

You're complaining about something you haven't even heard of and are somehow tired of it.

The 'Sony has no games' people are forgetting about Blops3, Battlefront and Fallout 4.

All 3 of those games will objectively be better on the PC, which is what GB was arguing.

From a casual gamer (i.e. one console owner) that doesn't matter at all.

But GB isn't talking about those people, they talk more about informed gamers who can do their research and realize which system is better before deciding if they want a new system/game or not.

Of course, it's kind of moot because if someone really wanted a PS4 they most likely have one by now.

It's a well known fact that GB guys are jaded as fuck. Vinny and Dan are the only two who actually care about anything :|

I went back and watched the FF announcement on the GB stream and it really is odd how Brad (and to a lesser extent Alex) seem genuinely angry that they are remaking the game.

Brad has made it very clear he doesn't like FF7... only weird thing I thought from Alex was his "if you're happy about this you can never complain about remakes/remasters again!". This game is... 18 years old, give or take? I think a lot of the remasters that get a lot of shit are games that have been remade or are still relatively recent.

I went back and watched the FF announcement on the GB stream and it really is odd how Brad (and to a lesser extent Alex) seem genuinely angry that they are remaking the game.

Haven't they (Jeff + Brad) always rolled their eyes at the remake FF7 crowd. I figured their reaction would be "well you got what you wanted people"

I don't have an interest in the game so I wouldn't know.

What are you running then? and what are your settings?

why do you people need this video game site to validate you and your opinions

I really want to know what magical pixie dust you think sony and microsoft put into their consoles to make them run games better than comparably priced PCs.

No magical pixie dust. I know a 500-600$ pc can be better or comparable to a ps4/xbox one. But people ignore the part where you have to build it and then troubleshoot if anything were to go wrong. Many PC gamers seem to think Pc's just work today, which they do not and never have. Things can and will happen on PC that just do not happen on console. Consoles are easier to deal with and due to their inherent nature will always be.

Perhaps they're quiet because they agree with the sentiments of others?

Not really – Giantbomb doesn't have that counter-culture , you see this in the podcast even though on rare occasions they disagree with Dan over MGS. Then again, when you have just Dan with Jeff and Brad who talk a lot and Drew who contributes nothing, then it's going to be that way.

Everyone talking about cynicism and shit when Jeff was looking so excited about Mario Maker yesterday.

Yeah, they've, especially Jeff and Brad, have always been more fond of games that evoke the 8 and 16 bit eras of video games. They were never going to go crazy over FF7 and Shenmue because they were adults when those came out and aren't fond of them. Just because they aren't going crazy over that doesn't mean that they still aren't passionate about video games. You just have to watch the Old Games Show and hear them talk about games they really like (Destiny, Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Splatoon) to see that they still are.

Wouldn't the main factor of you being bored be that the Sony conference itself was boring to you? Since it's not like the Giant Bomb commentary is the main meal here. It's just some added spice.

No? I can't fathom how you would even reach a conclusion like that.

I listen/watch GiantBomb's content regularly and I still listen to their podcast. They aren't entertaining to me anymore–and this is my own personal opinion; I'm not heralding it as if it were a fact. I used to really love their commentary stuff regardless of the conference they were covering (Sony was outstanding this year, by the way).

I enjoy both sides of the spectrum: Seeing Huber & Bosman lose their shit over FFVII and Shenmue 3, while enjoying the discussion the GB crew were having after the Sony conference.

*shrugs*

For as much shit Gerstmann gets on this forum for being cynical, I thought Brad was far more cynical than him tonight. He came off as very out of touch with the general gaming audience and who sony was marketing this toward.
