Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

I'm really not convinced that this is a good idea yet. I'm of the mind that this game can't be remade properly now without dramatically altering the tone. I also have no faith in Square to be even remotely timely with the release.

That being said, I actually played VII for the first time this year and I have to say while I feel it's obviously over rated due to nostalgia for a lot of people, it is without a doubt one of my favorite entries in the series, so...will totally friggin buy obviously.
 
I hope they port over the characters and general story, but there's no need to go a 1-to-1 translation of every single detail.

Also, the combat system is dated, so I hope they revamp that entirely.

I'm little worried about the combat system though.
If they will change it or not. If they will, will it be like FF15 or maybe some other modern combat system?
 
So, Kags, other than your berd becoming obsolete and replaced by Machinist this Friday, do you have any comments on FFXII? :3 Please?
 
I think they're well aware of Advent Children's criticism's(I hope they are anyway).

The only thing that really felt like Advent Children was the music, which was one of the few good things about that damn movie.

The rest just looks like an amped up version of what I'd expect.

Yeah, they know what they're doing and it sounds like it's going to make some people angry.

BUT WHO COULD BE ANGRY AT THIS
 
when they say first on ps4. does that mean first on PS4 and PC then Xbox one ?

or does that mean first on PS4 then later on PC and Xbox one ?

or there is no Xbox one version at all ?

Boyes misspoke -- the title card that appears said "Console exclusive"w hich is Sony's way of saying "PC and us" a la No Man's Sky, Rapture, etc.

Plus, it looks like Kagari already confirmed this is similar to the SFV situation earlier in the thread.

I don't know where all this unfounded "Square can do no right" motive comes from after all the recent years where they've fixed so many of their mistakes.

It's a way for players to experience the original game with a few enhancements and also a way of gaining a larger modern audience. when they say first on PS4 it means it will first be on the PS4 and then later on something else. it might be pc it might be xbox one it might be a limited edition toaster... we don't know. (though others seem to have info that it won't be on the xbox one)

PS4 first, no other platforms announced yet. Kagari says PC is possible but believes it to be a SF5 type deal - no other consoles.

Obviously Uematsu's music will be present and I wouldn't be surprised at new songs/arrangements.
Next we just need confirmation of Yusuke Naora's involvement in the art direction (seems apparent from the CG teaser).


The one missing link is, of course, The Gooch. :{
Otherwise, much of the band is getting back together for this remake it seems. Makes me think about all of those crew members from FFVII/VIII/X that were originally on FFvsXIII and then were mysteriously absent from the updated FFXV credits.
Moved to support CyberConnect2 and the VII:Re?

The story of the original was pretty bad when I revisited it (as an adult).

The problem is, the writing at Square Enix has perhaps only gotten worse with expanded technology. So I ...might agree with you, by default.
 
I'm really happy about this from a "been hearing people wish for this forever" perspective, but I can't help but wonder what the cross dressing scene is going to be like with realistic graphics and voice acting. So many things like that worked (well, mostly) in FF7 because they were blocky pixel people, so even when things were serious there was room for goofyness.

I wonder what Barret will be like. Are they going to go all out with his language or give him censor bleeps?

It has nothing to do with that and more with the fact that they just don't make them like they used to. That's about it.

And this game is probably gonna illustrate that to great effect.

Yup.The trailer was speaking to the fans.

And that's a fucking awesome subtlety in there as it also applies to the actions that Cloud and Co were about to execute in the actual game universe.
