I hope they make a lot of changes (game play wise) just dont fuck with the characters, story, and overall quirkiness of the orginal. And NO crisis core anything

Please be turn-based... that was basically one of the original's key features. I'm pretty confident they'll do a good job on everything else.

It's not gonna happen. Considering the evolution of modern RPG combat and popularity of games like Dark Souls, it's most likely going to be action-oriented. Nomura directing basically seals the deal

what's going on. I have never played FF7, yet I saw the trailer and when I say cloud walk I got goosebumps and my eyes got moisty.

damn, what a teaser/trailer. so fucking powerful.

FFVII Remake? Don't fuck this up Square keep it true to the original. Don't fucking skimp on the budget for the music like you did for FFXHD.

All live instruments and all real synthesizers for everything. Mixed and mastered all by top dollar professionals. Make sure the levels of the instruments match the original songs.

INCLUDE THE ORIGINAL MUSIC.
I hope they are smart about this so they can make it run at a good framerate. If areas are segmented off like the original game. It allows more polished visuals and better performance. And also retains the original feeling. Instead of this garbage with FFXV trying to be top notch visual open world game on hardware that CLEARLY CANNOT HANDLE IT.

PC port that doesn't suck would be nice too.

Jesus just fixing your existing PC ports of FF games would make me SOO happy. (XIII,XIII-2, III, IV , IV-TAY)

Hopefully they use Unreal Engine 4 or something established that's not their crystal engine / in-house stuff.
Looks like they are forward thinking with Kingdom Hearts 3 in this regard.

The king finally returns.

You haters can say what you want, but this is the King of RPGs. Will be interesting to see how they remix the combat because what was cool in the 90s (turn based, random encounters) is STALE AS FUCK in 2015+. They'll have to do more than a visual update; the combat engine itself will need an overhaul. Hopefully they're up to the task because they're meddling with precious memories now.

I wish them good luck.

I love FF7.
I love Tifa.
But this isn't the king of RPG.
CT or FFT were better.

look at this master troll

he knows: "i've won".

That pic is hilarious.

Oh man this is so amazing. I was literally smiling at my job after hearing this while having a shitty day. I can not wait to see some actual gameplay.

I can tell you right now my hype will die if they try to turn this into some Action rpg in the vein of kingdom hearts or some jazz. That's something I definetly do not want.

I'd rather have the old battle system with some teaks, and no the battle system was not slow unless you are one of those people who kept default setting and used wait.

Now FF9 that had a really slow atb no matter what setting you did. Dunno how anyone could play that one on default.

Yep, on active and at the highest speed, FF VII had the fastest battle system of the PSX Final Fantasies. There are some animations from the enemy that linger too long, but it is much, much faster than VIII and IX.

Quick question, is it plausible that they just decided to helm this project after seeing the reception to their December port reveal?

Has this been in works longer?

Triforce of Nostalgia (FFVII Remake)
Triforce of Feelings (The Last Guardian)
Triforce of Completion (Shenmue 3)

As long as they don't outsource they should be ok.

Or, y'know, have the team behind FFXIV remake on it.

It's neat seeing everyone talk about what their favorite moments will be like in the new remake. And how each person's favorite moments are different. It really shows you how Final Fantasy VII had so many defining moments that make it a memorable game.

I can't wait to see a lot of different things and how they are remade. The abandoned mansion; Midgar itself ( I always liked the city and wished there was more to do); the world map (I'm really curious as to how they are going to make this) and many others. I really do hope they keep the humor as well, as it helped lift the mood and created a nice contrast with the sadness and melancholy (like another poster commented about earlier).

Indeed. My favorite part of FFVII is how sometimes the game straight up feels like a horror game. The moment Sephiroth infiltrates Shinra Building, the party wakes up in prison and there was blood everywhere and THIS playing at the background.

Then there's the cargo ship incident, how it was so chilling at the beginning with red tail being silly.

Shinra mansion in Nibelheim. Place legit looks haunted.

Cave of the Gi. Amazing atmosphere.

Temple of the Ancients. Disturbing place.

The shot of Midgar Zolom getting impaled by a giant pole.

Best part is how the game balances all the darker, serious moments with lighthearted counterpart. I seriously love the Junon bit with Cloud disguising as one of the soldiers, entering bar and seeing the turks chilling around, drinking, the goofy minigames, all the things that's happening in Wall Market and Honeybee Inn, Gold Saucer, relaxing at motherfucking Costa Del Sol and kicking a random kid's football.

So good man.

i have my doubts that they are going to leave the story untouched and that they are going to make the gameplay exactly the same. i also wonder if they are going to integrate Crisis Core story and Advent Children story into the mix

The music for FFX-HD was actually done by two of the original composers Junya Nagano and Hamauzu, but the budget for the music was so pathetic that it resulted in everything being really inconsistent.

Some tracks that got the right amount of attention and love are FANTASTIC. But not every track was able to be given the same amount of time and attention thanks to the no doubt shitty budget Square gave them.

By far and large, the music budget should've dwarfed everything else for X-HD. To do it right.

FFXIV team too busy working on FFXIV (early access for Heavensward - the first expansion - is this Friday! \o/ ).

This week man. Fucking 3 teratons, Fallout 4 looking sweet, Smash Characters Ryu, Roy and Lucas (Sunday counts ok), Xbone backwards combatibility, Halo 5 looking alright, Horizon!, No Man's Sky looking sweet as ever, Uncharted 4 wowing me, a couple other things I've forgotten because of fucking Sony and the ten tons of mics they dropped. Oh and yeah, Heavensward on friday!

God, I hope not. It'll be like a different game.

As someone who prefers a more deliberate, strategic approach to combat, I absolutely loathe the so-called "modern" RPG combat style. Why everyone has such a hard-on for running in circles around the monsters in between moves is beyond me.

I'm holding out hope that they don't fuck it up that way.

Wait, what? They are going to use the same ridiculous and inconsistent world character models? The best thing about FFVIII was how consistent and cohesive of a step up it was compared to FFVII. Since this is an actual remake, the only possible reason to do this is for nostalgia purposes only. But even when the game was brand new this really annoyed me. Regardless, if they keep the battle system the same, this will be a day one for me. I still think ATB/Turn Based is better than the majority of other "modern" party battle systems out there in pretty much every game that's not Dragon's Dogma. FFXV might actually change my mind, but so far that's how I see it.

whoops. misread it. I did think that was just his wrist armor or whatever, but ya know what... slowing it down, it looks like his left hand does have some shit on it, that his right hand appears not to. I have no idea, but I'm definitely intrigued. good lookin out

edit: it looked like his left hand was just cut off completely by the bottom of the screen, but there's a couple of frames where his arm swings upward and you totally should be able to see a hand, if there was a hand there.... I ain't seeing a hand.

I'm talking more about the metal cuff...thing.

It starts at the elbow, but has that segment in the middle that's ridiculously skinny.
How does someone's arm from the elbow down fit through that thing unless they're sickly thin?

Calm down. They haven't said anything yet.

It looks like the character designs are going to get a modern facelift. Barret's gun was the key point here.

I hope that means they're a bit more sensible with Tifa. I would love something around Lara Croft Reboot in terms of design: still very pretty, not overly sexy.

I sat next to someone who said "Oh no she still needs to have huge tits." I really hope Square doesn't share this sentiment.

If they paid any attention to you, there's so many situations that would need tweaking (removal?) to fit modern standards. I hope they don't change anything and instead of the booklet there's a 'whatever' note.

Long ago, we looked upon a foreboding sky.

The memory of a star that threatened all burns eternal in our hearts.

In its wake came an age of silence.

Yet with each fond remembrance, we knew those encountered were not forgotten. That someday we would see them again.

Perhaps it was no more than wishful thinking.

But after the long calm, there are now the beginnings of a stir.

The reunion at hand may bring joy; it may bring fear. But let us embrace whatever it brings.

For they are coming back.

At last, the promise has been made.

I see what they did there.

Can you imagine this being released on January 31, 2017. Exactly 20 years after the original.

Cloud has always been a very thin figure. The only thing more ridiculous than the Buster Sword is that Cloud could easily spin it around like a fan.

I prefer VI, V, IV, IX and too many other outer-franchise RPGs for this to be king.

But since you insisted on using the word hater, you hereby relinquish all rights to unwarrantedly diss other games.

Then I feel like his upper arms should be thinner, too.
Arms don't just...shrink halfway down like that.

I swear I'm not trying to nitpick, it just looks really bizarre to me.

Like, I'm imagining him taking that thing off to sleep and he's got some kind of baby arm thing goin' on.
