Technically. How is this possible?
I imagine a digital emulator

How do achievements work exactly with this and digital games? If I have castlevania can I just download it to the One and it just boots up and works? And then Achievements will pop up like normal?

Playing Banjo Kazooie on a PC that's streaming from an Xbox One that is emulating an Xbox 360.
What a time to be alive.

Keep in mind, yo're not installing anything off the disc, you're downloading the entire thing from Xbox Live. The disc is simply a key
There it is. Shame, but we can't really complain.i checked you need the disk to play the game i tried to take it out while playing and it stopped immediately.
Very good point! I wonder if they are using some of the old DRM code for this? Or will it be that I can install the same disc on another drive? I'm at work but will try playing without the disc when I get home if nobody beats me to it.
PowerPC CPU emulation in HyperV container with Xbox OS layered in.

Are you able to transfer save data from the 360 to One?

So, if a multiplayer game is included, would the online component work?
Crazy.
Wonder how many months they worked on this emulation. Massive props to MS tech team but hey they created Windows Virtual PC so they know their shit.
This is really puzzling me in terms of how they did it. Even if you have to recompile, what about the games that were optimized with specific 360 HW tricks in mind? Those weak jaguar cores can't possibly emulate the PPC CPU...
Yes, and you can play against those on Xbox 360.
If you use the cloud saving yes seems soAre you able to transfer save data from the 360 to One?
You'll need the disc to play once it's installed. It's where the license would be stored if you don't own it digitally.
If the game supports cloud saves, yes. I think Super Meat Boy is the only game that doesn't support it right now.
Upload to the cloud on the 360.

Do people really believe this?
Did BC make the PS3 sell like mad when it had it?
Do people really spend a bunch of money to gain the ability to play games they already had?
I definitely remember "PS3 has no games" people mocking those who talked about how big the PS2 library was.

Sounds like they're recompiling the games then, rather than emulation on the fly. He said if you insert a 360 disc it will then download the game.Video with Major Nelson interviewing a developer on this, explains some of the tech behind it (in general terms): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPQuDyWULNU

A company called Transitive invented the technology back in 2007. They were Manchester University computer science students. They patented it, and sold it to IBM. It's also used in Apple Mac's, to run old PowerPC applications on Intel processsors.
Source: I went for a job interview with them, and my NDA expired.

For anyone curious about Mass Effects framerate, I do understand that everything is still a work in progress.

Whoooo that's the best news after BC being even there. Going to replay through LO and BD again once this goes liveBtw Phil told me that he's been emphasizing that games like blue dragon and lost odyssey are also supported and working as expected.
Why do the developers have to approve each game before Microsoft can make it available? I don't think that's something that had to be done with the OG Xbox emulation on 360. Why would licensing matter when we already own the games on 360? I'm just mad that I may never get Outrun and After Burner because of this.
Also, what happens when you put in that XBLA disc that used to come with 360s and had geometry wars? I think it was called Xbox Live Unplugged
Ha, never knew that. Thanks for the info.
Did you get that job BTW?
