Star Fox Zero: 6/10. Looked decent, the transformations looked nice, Platinum is a nice dev. Interested in knowing the business model, it seems plainly not a full price retail title. Would like to see a bit more.
Zelda: Triforce Heroes: 6/10. It looks OK, I'll play it, and thank heavens it has online play. But this is very much an end-of-life title for the 3DS. It's the fourth Zelda game for the system, and it looks like a minor project. No interest in the fashion mechanic at all.
Hyrule Warriors Legends: 0/10. No interest in the original, no interest in a downport of the original. Not my kind of game. Glad some people like it though.
Metroid: Federation Force: 4/10. Didn't visually look very good, and I'm not convinced I want to play a co-op shooter on a handheld, especially not with the strong aim lock / assist that seemed to be present in both this and Blast Ball. This might be interesting, I guess, but it didn't premiere well.
Metroid: Blast Ball: 5/10. I was at the NWC and the reveal of this was exciting. The gameplay less so. Aiming locked on the blast ball, sort of wonky physics, not very intuitive powerup system. I think this might be a fun side mode to try but also didn't really demo well.
Fire Emblem 3DS: 5/10. This is Nintendo's version of a CG trailer. I guess I'm mildly interested in the game, but the tw version / DLC business model is kind of not something I am interested in, and just showing it as CG doesn't really excite me. I'd like to see the game.
SMTxFire Emblem Wii U: 0/10. Boobs and vocaloids, this represents everything shitty about Japanese game development in 2015, and you can't even tell what the fuck is going on in terms of the game itself. At the initial re-reveal there was some interesting looking footage of Tokyo, but it's straight downhill here. Repulsive.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: 5/10. Too many mecha. The open worlds look great. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed with the reception I've heard out of Japan so far. Hope it turns out great.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home: 9/10. This is an awesome extension of the Animal Crossing concept and I really look forward to see how it works with the card-based Amiibo (which they didn't mention). Really cool, and a great way to release more than one AC game on a platform.
Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival: 2/10. When they first started I was like "AC Mario Party? Cool. I'll buy that." And then the minigames never came, it was just random dice roll text vignettes, and then it became obvious they want you to buy a bunch of Amiibo. Meh. If it's more of a game I'll play it.
Yoshi's Woolly World: 7/10. Presentation was mostly a recap of stuff we saw before. I'm going to buy the game. I like the idea that the Amiibo design came out of someone making a craft for the team. That was a cute touch.
Yokai Watch: 3/10. It looks OK, I guess, but I don't really get into the "collect 'em all" franchises and if I did it'd be Pokemon, not this. Gotta sell the TV show, though?
Mario & Luigi Paper Jam: 6/10. Cautiously optimistic. The game didn't look very good in their trailer and I didn't much like Sticker Star and never got the last M&L. But this could be cool.
Martio Tennis Ultra Smash: 3/10. I like Mario Tennis. I don't see it sustaining a console retail title. The main gimmick of the game seems to be mushrooms that make your characters big. Snooze. Wish they'd bring back RPG mode.
Mario Maker: 8/10. Game looks really cool, the dev docs from Mario 1 were great, and I can't wait to play it. Definitely the best thing Nintendo showed. And I'm impressed that the little interim videos featuring Mario turning into other Nintendo characters were actually Mario Maker footage, that was a neat surprise.
All in all it was clearly a "goodbye to 3DS/Wii U... wait for what's next" year. What they showed was OK, but nothing exciting or really new or fresh to me. I'll buy a few of the games. It's hard having a transition year, but it's necessary if you want the big guns next year. Of the non-demoed games on their press site only Fatal Frame really interests me so I'll check out that trailer in a bit.
