It was incredibly obvious to most people that Blastball was connected with Metroid.

Visually, it's a mess. Just look at it. And the gameplay doesn't look particularly interesting, either; though I'll admit that my opinion of that is colored by this being a Metroid game that is completely not at all what I wanted.
 
I don't understand why Nintendo won't jump on the "let's do some cheap HD remakes for digital download to pad out our portfolio" train. You've got a deep back catalog to draw from, you don't have to go to the drawing board and parade out a brand new retail game every time you put the IP on the table.

Replace this mess with an indie-esque 2D remake of Metroid 2 for eShop with a tenth of the budget, people would be going absolutely bananas over that.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo cancels this with all the backlash it's getting. Shame, it looks fun and can easily be retooled into a new IP. There would still be the issue of getting people to buy it, but it's not like it's going to sell as a Metroid game.
 
As a note from the PR, online confirmed:

· Metroid Prime: Federation Force: Up to four players can connect online or locally to take on co-op missions in this first-person sci-fi adventure set in the Metroid Prime universe. Players don a mech suit and work together as a team to clear out enemy-infested bases and complete objective-based missions. After completing the missions, up to six players can compete in Metroid Prime: Blast Ball, a three-on-three game that requires players to shoot a ball into their opponents’ goal. The game is scheduled to launch in 2016.

Oh god. I saw the thread title and was like, "Hey!" and then I entered the thread. Can't watch at work but I'm a little... trepidatious to check it out when I get home. :(

it's a mess visually. You can barely tell what is going on.

That's to say nothing about the terrible chibi artstyle which doesn't jive with anything Metroid has ever been in the past.

I would be very surprised if they did... kind of a major thing to can a game, particularly over a fan reaction.


That said, I literally hate this.

The only one I always forget is Kanden. Aside from him, the others all had names that stick with you. Just like their awesome designs.

Hunters was great. I wish this was like Hunters. Everybody comparing it to this doesn't seem to remember what it was like.
 
Always online, no single player, and not even the main protagonist involved? What on earth Nintendo was thinking introducing this to the starving fans of Metroid is beyond me.

As a Metroid fan, I'm disappointed. However, I guess we'll always have next year, and then the one after that, and perhaps the one after that....
 
I don't think that this game should be taken as the direction of Metroid. It's more like a stopgap and Nintendo's desire to expand the franchise. If it does well, it could help support a 2-3 pillar series.

The worst thing is that this is probably going to bomb hard and give the message that people don't care about Metroid anymore.

It could have been Metroid Prime Hunters 2 at least.
 
The game seems bad no matter what. The artstyle is awful, especially this chibi stuff. The idea is stupid, everyone wanted a Metroid game that you play as Samus, like normally. Not spin off games. Blastball seems awful and doesn't makes me interested in the game.

I feel that if they dropped the whole co-op stuff and had this on Wii U with a normal artstyle, it would look better but generally I'm still disappointed we didn't get a normal Prime game. Prime Hunters proved that shooters don't really work that great on handhelds. Especially when they're underpowered.

I really want to like this but I can't think of any reason to do so. :/
 
I thought it looked fun, I liked Hunters and fps multiplayer in 3d sounds engaging. Wanted more than that very short trailer, hopefully we'll see it played here soon.

Hey everyone, remember how we were all worried that Other M's bomba would kill the series? Is there something about this that makes the "if this bombs Nintendo will think that people just hate Metroid" argument more valid than it was last time?
 
 
I'm fine with a small scale spinoff, but I didn't expect it to be this bad looking. It actually looks worse than Prime 1, which is 13 years old.

If you're not going to keep the franchise going, then just let it stay dead. This Weekend at Bernie's shit is just disgraceful.

It is intended to improve Metroid name recognition among people who are children (right now) so that if they make a Metroid Prime 4 or a Metroid 5 a few years down the line, it will actually sell to people under 30. 2015, right now, what reason would someone 15 or younger possibly have to nag their parents for the new main-series Metroid? Other M?
 
Oh my god that looks terrible. Why did they go with those chibi proportions?! Metroid was always marketed and sold to the young adult/maturer demographic. Why the sudden switch to this hyper kid-friendly style? Did they just really love that one Nintendoland game?

Oh yeah, visually it's a complete trash can. There's no care given to the visuals, either graphically or conceptually. Completely lazy to just reuse previous metroid designs and it shows through the graphics that they could care less about why that route was chosen.

Gameplay looks interesting enough I thought. Of course, after it took about an hour to calm down over the slap in the face that they made this a metroid game.

Yeah, people should remember all the fantastic 2D and 3D Metroid games we got since Other M came out 5 years ago.
