Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

This is a 2016 game, guys.

I do really hate the character designs though.

Yeah, people should remember all the fantastic 2D and 3D Metroid games we got since Other M came out 5 years ago.

So what you're saying is that Super Metroid killed Metroid, because the gap between Super and Fusion was far longer than that.

Just, try to make an argument that doesn't require that you artificially connect two points. "Other M came out, and we didn't get another Metroid for five years after!"

I don't think that this game should be taken as the direction of Metroid. It's more like a stopgap and Nintendo's desire to expand the franchise. If it does well, it could help support a 2-3 pillar series.

Wait, always online? Nintendo's really trying to be next-gen lol

Metroid could already be a 2 pillar series.

But we haven't had a proper prime game in 8 years, and a proper 2d metroid in 11, and that was a bloody remake. Ugh.

This game is not (exclusively) for you, and it is not (exclusively) for me. It is intended to improve Metroid name recognition among people who are children (right now) so that if they make a Metroid Prime 4 or a Metroid 5 a few years down the line, it will actually sell to people under 30. 2015, right now, what reason would someone 15 or younger possibly have to nag their parents for the new main-series Metroid? Other M?

They can nag their parents for Animal Crossing or Mario or some shit. There' are plenty of options for that crowd already.

Though, come to think of it, I recall begging my parents to let me rent Super Metroid like... every weekend when I was 6. So actually, I don't see how a real Metroid game would be any less valuable for introducing Metroid to kids than this.

Nope. Fuck this game.

Were is Samus?

In the grave Sakamoto shoved her into.

Seriously, this is only going to convince that no one wants Metroid going foward.

It will probably also lead to Chibi Samus (The one from Metroid Blast) being playable in Smash at some point.

Seriously I'd rather have Metroid Blast.

Other M was intended to be the next big Metroid. Just because it sucked doesn't mean anything. What likely happened was Nintendo needed to spend time restructuring the series and development.

So.....this is Next Level's Metroid tittle? I mean, I expected them to be making a Metroid game from those leaked concept arts but I didn't expect them to be making a Prime Hunters sequel :l.

To be honest, this is much, much better then us getting another Other M 2 that butchers Samus's character yet again, so I am glad that the game is how it is now :).

The visuals look nice, the controls seem to be a lot like the GC Prime tittles and the gameplay seems to be fresh (instead of a game focused on Death Matches, this is focused on Co-Op action with friends).

Hope this turns out well and I look forward to seeing more :D.

And for people pissed at this announcement.....keep in mind that when Nintendo releases a handheld Metroid, a console one is not to far behind. And with Retro's game not being announced at the Nintendo Digital event, I have high hopes that their first NX project will be a Prime 4 or a new 2D game :D.

It's possible that Samus isn't there because it's set after Fusion and you're playing as people out to arrest her for her actions in said game.

It feels like it was designed with Amiibos / Skylanders in mind, if not for a younger audience. The cutesy character design takes out the darker isolated tone of the series. Many series have gone chibi-style but I don't think it suits the genre.

Honestly, the only thing that bothers me about this game besides the character designs is that I'd rather that the developer be making Punch-Out!! 2 or Mario Strikers 3.

I'm disappointed this isn't a real Metroid game, but the concept of playing as federation troops sounds cool. I really, really dislike that graphical style though. Why is it a weird chibi style? Also, why are the graphics such poor quality? Metroid Prime: Hunters looks much better, and that was a DS game.

Hopefully they make changes, buuuut... I'm doubtful.

As a Donkey Kong fan who had to endure cries that one of my favorite franchise was deemed less important than Metroid back at E3 2013, I gotta say I'm feeling a little cheeky right now.

That being said, I was honestly never a big Metroid fan to begin with...barely played any of the classics, and found Metroid Prime to be pretty good, but Prime 2 and 3 less-so and a bit drawn out.

But, I also don't even think this game looks horrible, and actually am looking to learn more about it.

Eh.... It looks sort of fun but this is generally not what I want when I think of a "Metroid" game. Nintendo is trying something new with the franchise and I can respect that. But I can also still want a classic, 2D sidescrolling metroid in the style of Super Metroid, can't I?

While not the most ideal Metroid, it sure as hell is better than Mario Spinoff #400. Besides, it looks fun outside of tunnel vision.

"the world of Metroid Prime"

I wonder what this actually means. Are we going to do missions on Tallon IV? Why would the federation go to a planet that's basically dead and nothing but wild life? What about Aether

Is this before or after Phazon is gone? I assume after. Meaning the major threats on these planets are basically gone. What are they doing, just killing wild life?

Is my memory really bad, or was the DS Hunters game on par graphically?

Your memory's bad. It's just that Prime Hunters looked really nice for a DS game, and this game doesn't look quite as nice for a 3DS game. It's still quite better than MPH though.

Prequel that leads into Metroid Prime?

This is what they decide to do with Metroid? Some really interesting choices for the franchise over the past few years. Thought a more classic 2D game would for sure be made, not whatever this is supposed to be.

I think it means it's a first person Metroid game. I wouldn't put too much thought into it.

I thought that too, but I think it's the former

It's a 3DS game, of course, but still this looks bad even for 3DS' standards. This looks like Metroid Prime Hunters, only a little bit updated.
I'd argue that Metroid Prime Hunters looks better than Federation Force if only due to art direction and the apparent amount of resources and effort put into each game respective of their time. Hunters was surprisingly robust and easily one of the best looking games on the platform, despite its problems.

This looks bad and doesn't pull enough from Hunters to really say that it's an updated version, visually or otherwise. It doesn't even look like a Metroid title outside of passing resemblances.
