Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

Prequel that leads into Metroid Prime?

the federation doesnt even know about Tallon IV before metroid prime and neither did samus

samus ends up on tallon IV because of the distress signal on the space station thats in tallon iv's orbit and then ridley flies down to the planet and samus chases him there

This game is not (exclusively) for you, and it is not (exclusively) for me. It is intended to improve Metroid name recognition among people who are children (right now) so that if they make a Metroid Prime 4 or a Metroid 5 a few years down the line, it will actually sell to people under 30. 2015, right now, what reason would someone 15 or younger possibly have to nag their parents for the new main-series Metroid? Other M?

If that were the case, I'd imagine they'd try to work Samus in somehow.

It feels like it was designed with Amiibos / Skylanders in mind, if not for a younger audience. The cutesy character design takes out the darker isolated tone of the series. Many series have gone chibi-style but I don't think it suits the genre.

What are you talking about, shooters and chibi go together like bread and butter.

It's pretty obvious Retro is making an MP4, this is just to keep it alive in the limelight.

Tropical Freeze only came out last year, they need time.

So.....this is Next Level's Metroid tittle? I mean, I expected them to be making a Metroid game from those leaked concept arts but I didn't expect them to be making a Prime Hunters sequel :l.

To be honest, this is much, much better then us getting another Other M 2 that butchers Samus's character yet again, so I am glad that the game is how it is now :).

The visuals look nice, the controls seem to be a lot like the GC Prime tittles and the gameplay seems to be fresh (instead of a game focused on Death Matches, this is focused on Co-Op action with friends).

Hope this turns out well and I look forward to seeing more :D.

And for people pissed at this announcement.....keep in mind that when Nintendo releases a handheld Metroid, a console one is not to far behind. And with Retro's game not being announced at the Nintendo Digital event, I have high hopes that their first NX project will be a Prime 4 or a new 2D game :D.

The concept art was from a CANCELLED game they worked on before Luigi's Mansion 2. Also, this isn't a sequel to Hunters. It's just another spinoff in the Prime universe like Hunters and Pinball were.

Sure, the Federation doesn't know about Tallon IV

And they aren't cloning Metroids either

;)

This is my stance. It's a stopgap to keep people interested in Metroid; it just so happens that the visual style and visual quality are kind of poor, so it made people a bit mad.

At the same time, at least it's making people talk about Metroid.

I really hope that Nintendo goes back and fixes the visuals so they aren't like little kids in space suits though. It's such a terrible idea.

Yea, this is the one thing I dislike about it. It makes it feel off from the normal Metroid brand. Maybe that's the intention, but it just doesn't feel right. Metroid hasn't been chibi styled since the original Metroid.

I love Nintendo, but they deserved this. 98% of the time they make awesome decisions, but boy does that 2% sting something fierce.

Again, and I'm sorry to sound like a broken record here...

THEY CANCELLED A 2.5D METROID GAME FOR THIS. SERIOUSLY, LOOK IT UP.

Correction: They canned it for Luigi's Mansion 2

I don't get why they would slap Metroid on this. At least this easy to ignore since it isn't even trying to appeal to Metroid fans.

Oh well. :/

"the world of Metroid Prime"

I wonder what this actually means. Are we going to do missions on Tallon IV? Why would the federation go to a planet that's basically dead and nothing but wild life? What about Aether

Is this before or after Phazon is gone? I assume after. Meaning the major threats on these planets are basically gone. What are they doing, just killing wild life?

Was it confirmed to take on Tallon IV?

I think it just means it takes place in the MP universe, and like always there will be phazon out the wazoo.

Tropical Freeze was finished back in 2013 and they've been working on their new game ever since. Everything seems to point towards their new game being a new DKC.

I do really hate the character designs though.

So what you're saying is that Super Metroid killed Metroid, because the gap between Super and Fusion was far longer than that.

Just, try to make an argument that doesn't require that you artificially connect two points. "Other M came out, and we didn't get another Metroid for five years after!"

Worse than ten years without a new game is when after five years the only thing they have to show is a spin off that does not even involve the main character of the series.

Eh, I think MP4 is going to be their thing, Nintendo just didn't want it to be sent to die on the Wii U.

The ultimate point is that you're conflating. Nintendo didn't interpret the poor sales of Other M as "oh they just don't like Metroid", that would make them a really stupid company, like cartoonishly stupid, if they were so ignorant as to not even acknowledge the very vocal, very specific criticisms it received.

I'd argue that Metroid Prime Hunters looks better than Federation Force if only due to art direction and the apparent amount of resources and effort put into each game respective of their time. Hunters was surprisingly robust and easily one of the best looking games on the platform, despite its problems.

This looks bad and doesn't pull enough from Hunters to really say that it's an updated version, visually or otherwise. It doesn't even look like a Metroid title outside of passing resemblances.

Hunters was okay but it was a 2004 game. Or 2005, I'm not really sure. It's been 10 years. The game looks the same pretty much. Yeah, pretty much it's extremely disappointing.

I actually look forward to this, and think it's an interesting Metroid spin-off.

Come on guys, we've had Metroid Pinball before.

Prime Pinball wasn't released in this climate. If they showed it off before Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion you can bet people would be just as angry as we are now.

we had metroid pinball at the same time as Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Prime 2, and Metroid Prime 3

metroid was practically having a renaissance at that time

I'm hoping we've just got a bad glimpse at this. Hopefully it gets expanded a bit.

I like the idea of you creating your own GFS trooper. You go out on missions, do some exploration, play some sports in your downtime. Let you actually live as a soldier. A sort of space Monster Hunter.

The art really needs some polishing, though. It is not resonating.

I'm actually curious how the campaign plays. The blastball portion didn't seem to have the signature prime sidestep so dodging might be a bit difficult, but maybe it was intentionally left out for the NWC?

My biggest concern is that NLG's latest game, dark moon, had really weak bosses, but that's because they often failed to meet LM's genre. How good the bosses are will probably critically make or break this.

Nintendo Man

It's higher now. The dislikes are over 4000 and I'm glad. I don't mind what they're doing gameplay wise but the game looks like trash. I'm sorry I can't find any positive in how the game looked. Blastball was okay when it gave the impression of it being a possible free to play/start game like Steel Diver Subwars at the NWC. As a retail game and a Metroid entry it looks horrible and far beyond the standards that have been set for this franchise.

Pinball was just another part of the Prime, Fusion, Zero Mission sandwich of goodness. I get your point, but this is a bit different.

"the world of Metroid Prime"

I wonder what this actually means.

It means the same thing it meant with Hunters. Visor-type HUD, first person perspective, similar visual/sound design (albeit chibi-fied).

I guess it could mean that it uses levels from Prime, the snowy setting in the trailer did have a whiff of Phendrana about it.

Finally a Metroid game comes out for 3DS and it turns out to be this. I guess nobody really wanted that 2D game to ever happen.

What is Retro up to? We waited 5 years for the first Metroid since Other M and we get this NonMetroid online only Samus-less no one asked for.

Nintendo is the biggest loser this year by far.

This is the first time I've ever actually laughed derisively, aloud, throughout an entire trailer.

Correction: They canned it for Luigi's Mansion 2

While it was technically cancelled before LM2, the fact remains they could have just gone back to it instead of... this.

Being marginally better than Hunters isn't a huge accomplishment. But I guess it'll have a better story than Other M by default.

Pinball's great, though.

Hell, there's an idea, they should have contracted Zen to make a Metroid-themed table for Zen Pinball 2. Almost certainly would have cost them less and been much better recieved.

If sanctuary fortress is in, I'm sold

I want some new areas though

Jesus fuck people

That really was an incredible five year period. Four mainline installments, an incredible remake and two spinoffs.
