Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

I'm not even fucking sorry for you people. I got to say, this Metroid announcement is well deserved after the shitstorm and whining all you Metroid fanboys/fangirls had over the DKC: Tropical Freeze announcement two years ago. I've never been more disgusted with gamers than with the reactions many of you had in this thread. I hope Retro's new game is DKCR3, just to throw more salt in your wounds. :p
This.

Also, I loved Other M, so seeing all those people here trashing Other M while crying and rolling on the floor and shaking their first is just delicious.
I'm just sorry for Next Level Games, an extremely talented studio, who after Retro Studios and Team Ninja will have a tough time dealing with the mob.

Oh, well. You all have my sympathy.

Please Nintendo....you can call it everything else, but please don't call it Prime...

How about Metroid Other Federation Force?

To the people saying it looks interesting, try out some Warframe. It's free to play and from what was shown in the trailer, Warframe looks like it has a lot more depth to it. Similar art style too, minus the fact that everything looks like garbage.

I guess Metroid Prime Federation is portable, but why would you play it portably when you require an internet connection to play it how it's meant to be played? Unless you're one of the rare people that can organize a 3DS local multiplayer party.

Maybe if they have some really interesting monsters or weapons, sure, but I didn't see any in that trailer.

It's not out yet, so I obviously can't judge it definitively, but from what we've seen this looks like an honestly bad game on it's own right, regardless if it's a bad Metroid game.

This has to be a game they put Metroid branding on after the initial pitch, like BK nuts and bolts. Otherwise it seems like a real stretch.

Ok, you expect a company of professionals to answer to all kneejerk negative reactions on the internet???

That's not how it works nor should work.

Seriously though, it's not kneejerk. People are upset that a new Metroid game was announced and it doesn't look like Metroid, and more so than that they're upset that the visuals are bland and the designs look terrible.

I guess I'm in the minority that think this game looks pretty neat. Hopefully Treehouse will show some more footage.

Nintendo should just wait until the NX to release a new actual Metroid game. I don't think even Metroid would save the Wii U.

Oh, good lord you sound just as bad as the people you're pissy about.

This is a 2016 game, guys.
The texture quality looks worse while Metroid Prime Hunters just needs some good AA in there

Seriously at this point I would take an enchanted port of Metroid Prime Hunters overs this.

Ok, how about wait to see the game in action on the Treehouse stream and then when you aren't satisfied, contact your local congressman.

Not sure what I find more disappointing, this or Star Fox.

Very week lineup from Nintendo overall. There was NOTHING for me ;(

Fuck off Nintendo. How could you possibly think Metroid fans wanted this?

While I didn't explicitly ask for this, I did say (back in 2012!):

I don't think it's inherently wrong to investigate genre shifts within a universe; in principle, I'm fine with the idea of FPSes set within the Syndicate or X-Com (or, for that matter, Shadowrun) universes; I think the Metroid universe might just lend itself to a nice survival horror adventure, and I could see the merit in a Resident Evil squad-based strategy game.

And even earlier, I said:

Crazy suggestion, but just about plausible: A Metroid-universe Battlefront?

So, I'm curious, and not instantly against this as it stands. As I said before: It's not the game I wanted, but that doesn't mean that it's not a game I want.

I guess I'm in the minority that think this game looks pretty neat. Hopefully Treehouse will show some more footage.

I thought so too, but according to Neogaf Overreaction TM it's the worst thing since Hitler.
Seriously, a 4 player coop shooter with Metroid Prime controls with a competitive 3v3 Football mode?

Yeah sign me up for that shit.

What they announced Other M 2 then?

I'm a pretty hardcore Metroid fan and this doesn't really bother me. It looks like it could be fun.

Then again, I'm perfectly confident that a real Metroid is on the way (and that Blast Ball tease made it pretty clear to me that this wouldn't be a traditional Metroid anyway).

This isn't fair on those of us who loved Tropical Freeze but still want Metroid though.

Well, I'm sorry to people like you then. I think Nintendo just needs to hold their biggest cards until the NX is out and make easy to do games as filler until then. A DKCR3 game would be easy to do with many things already done for Tropical Freeze. Zelda should be on both consoles like Twilight Princess was.

Oh, good lord you sound just as bad as the people you're pissy about.

People were losing their shit that it wasn't a new Metroid or Star Tropics game. I'm just not sorry for them that their new Metroid game isn't at all what they wanted. Its just sort of a karma kind of thing.

It's a first person 4 player co-op Metroid on the 3DS in which you don't play as Samus.

It is quite possibly as close as they'll get to the opposite of what most people wanted, how it plays doesn't even matter when the entire premise is already the worst.

I was really hoping to hear a Wii U Metroid Prime game was in the works this E3.
There seems to be no reason for me to buy a Wii U still.

And there is no question why.

It took me literal months to "get good" at Metroid Prime Hunters, and when I did, I obliterated my cousins in multiplayer and they never wanted to play again.

Not to mention that the game wasn't fun.

good christ that looked terrible

/pisses on 3ds

Nintendo's amiibo timeline lists this game

Lemme guess...

"USE THE SAMUS AMIIBO TO UNLOCK CHIBI SAMUS AS PLAYABLE! YAY!"

I know it's gonna happen.

Tu ne changeras jamais. Je me doutais bien que tu devais jouir comme un cinglé en voyant ça ^^

Well... this is....

I'll just say that I have a very rigid definition of what constitutes a Metroid game and this is not it. Multiplayer is not a Metroid game.

This is a Metroid spinoff, not a true successor to any game in the core series.

You want the big guns, you have to wait.

As someone who enjoyed Hunters, I didn't ask for this.

LOL Even the Hunters fans are divided!

To add some clarification, there would be far less salt if this were announced after announcing a new mainline Metroid game, be it 2D or 3D. The fact that we waited half a decade for this is what's really adding salt.

The fact that NLG is working on this adds a little bit more, considering what they COULD have made. Damnit, I bet even they are a little salty. This game will not be a labor of love, I tell you.

Not sure what I find more disappointing, this or Star Fox.

Star Fox was not disappointing, though. Unless you're a graphics whore.

Do you honestly think "metroid hs been relegated to a fucking pinball table" would be any better than "metroid has been relegated to a co-op shooter"?
No one would percieve a third-party pinball table as "Here's Nintendo's vision for the Metroid franchise going forward." Zen's released several game-based tables, no one's going "OH SO PORTAL IS JUST PINBALL NOW?!" It's a side thing, a cool little tribute.

A new assy-looking chibi Metroid from Nintendo themselves, on the other hand, is absolutely being percieved as "Here's a direction Nintendo thinks is good for Metroid." Because that's... what it is. Spin-off, non-canon or whatever it may be, this is the next game carrying the Metroid name, it's the first game after a 5 year hiatus to represent the franchise on retail shelves.
