Nier 2 announced (Square Enix, Yoko Taro, Platinum Games, Akihiko Yoshida, PS4)

Crazy. I really need to play the first one but prices have skyrocketed for used copies. :(
 
So.. I imagine this game is late 2016 at the earliest right? Probably 2017 even, since they aren't yet ready to show us stuff. I always thought Nier looked pretty janky, but I never actually played it.

Neir is easily one of my all time favorite games and I never in a million years expected to see a sequel to it. Holy shit I can die happy.

This is a FF7R / TLG level of announcement to me.

And I still can't believe we got those two...
 
This isn't happening. Holy shit. I didn't even finish Drakengard 3 yet. And Platinum games developing it? This isn't real; I've always wanted a proper development team to fix Nier's gameplay issue.

I am definitely buying a PS4 for this (fuck Sony and consoles in general).



Edit: Okay, I am finally believing it and I am aware of what is happening. After knowing ALL of Nier's endings, I have no idea what will the development team do with Nier 2. There was an interesting thing in Grimoire Nier about one of the endings, so we will see how this will turn out. By the way, a lot of people discredit Nier's side quests, which are somewhat tedious, but they can be more entertaining by adding more cutscenes; they remind me of some quests in the Witcher series.
 
I hope this keeps the weirdness of the first, some things in that game are random and weird as all hell, was one of the reasons I loved it back in the day.

I hope that they retain the mysterious stuff and background story that is unveiled later on in the game. They might as well provide us with another Grimoire Nier as a reward for finishing the game.


I wonder what will Platinum games do in regards to the hub/semi-open world. Nier already has canceling and technical stuff from HnS games, but they needed refinement. Hopefully they will handle the RPG elements well.

Nier's/Drakengard's director liked GoW, and he said he implemented some of its game mechanics in Nier. P* already has the blueprint; they just have to add their physics engine stuff (for juggling and combos), balance the game, MAKE IT RUN AT 60FPS (Sony will cock-block that because they want to advertise their console's graphics) and add crazy movesets. I doubt P* will have anything to do with the story or OST.

Speaking of the OST, is Emi Evans going to do Nier 2's vocals?
 
This is my best announcement of E3. I don't even care about that remake of that subpar FF game or that giant animal game that looks like it could take place inside of the universe of 'The Last Airbender'

This. This is a megaton surprise for me. I teared up seeing that.

God, this E3 has been magical. And this turn-around for Square-Enix. It's like.. early PS3-era EA!
 
This is my dream game. This is my shit. This is my jam. I'm going to watch that trailer once a day, every day until there is a new trailer, and so on until the game is released and I buy a PS4 and pre-load it with a digital copy until I can get my hands on a physical collector's edition and all that stuff, just to keep it sealed.
 
Nice to see the enthousiasm in this thread, Nier really deserves it (those of you who didn't play it should, and with a new game+ please). Could be crazy good with Platinum involved. Now let's hope Taro won't make a shitty story just to toy with our expectations.

Me too, Drakengard 3 was really cool and the art design and intent made it quite enjoyable even with the expected budget-game issues and flaws.
