A few comments from Nomura on FFVII:R

As for summoning, assuming this game does the right thing and has encounters that (1) take place on the field screen and (2) allow for simultaneous actions to take place, I'd love to see summons that appear on the battle screen alongside all of your characters. Imagine continuing to fight your enemies on a platform that Neo Bahamut is lifting up into the sky, or having the Knights of the Round each charge individually through the battlefield while you continue to fight. It'd be a good merger of the FFV-FFIX philosophy of summons as big spells and the FFXI-XIII philosophy of summons as creatures that fight alongside your party, and it'd be fuckin' epic.

Tifa is a ho who sleeps around, look at that illegitimate kid she had with Barret.

(there are people who STILL believe this)
Lmao people are dumb.

I don't like Tifa a lot but even I think that's stupid as hell.

Personally I hope they focus more on Aeris and Tifa friendship this time around so I can like both characters more.

:-/. I don't like this idea at all, that's not FF7.

I don't want that, personally. Leave that shit to X and XIII. When I summon in FF7, everything should stop and the world should almost end.

Wut...

Isn't your avatar Tifa?

They don't have breast reduction surgery in Midgar.

:-/. I don't like this idea at all, that's not FF7.

This is a remake, not the exact original game with a new coat of paint. If the original were a perfect ageless jewel and Square-Enix hadn't had a single good idea since 1997, there wouldn't be a need to remake it.

They had a really good friendship in the original, which was a big surprise as I was originally worried they would have been catty with each other.

I hope that doesn't get changed.

I'll even accept yuri teasing. Tifa was the original Chie to Aerith's Yukiko.

this is a bad idea.

the core mechanics of FF7 don't need to change at all. Just do what REmake did and put a fresh coat of paint on things, with a few minor additions

They've also been promoted as the "canon" couple since AC.

I feel before it was Cloud/Aerith because at the time the original game wasn't finished. Tifa was one of the very last characters added into the story.

Since AC, we've had Kingdom Hearts, Last Order, Crisis Core, Dissidia, and several light novels that all push Cloud/Tifa.

There's even an Aerith novel where she essentially gives them her blessing.

Hard to push a dead girl. Kidding aside, I don't feel AC pushed cloud/tiffa, it made them more like buddy buddy, but you can tell cloud still thought about Aerith all the time.

Kingdom Heart doesn't count for anything.

AC directly pushed Cloti, especially in the novels taking place directly before the events. What Cloud thought of Aerith in that movie was guilt, of someone he could not save, someone he cared for tremendously, similar to Zack. But Tifa was completely different in regards to that feeling.

The entire point of the movie was Cloud getting over that guilt and moving on with his life.

KH pushes C/A actually

Tifa is Cloud's light, Nomura directly says in regards to KH, which is the scenario he and Nojima thought up. And Sephiroth is his darkness

I love Genesis. Come at me, haters :p

Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess, we seek it thus and take to the skies. Ripples form on the water's surface, the wandering soul knows no rest

Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return

-holy shit recited it by heart, its been many years-

KH has Cloud searching for Aeris and them reuniting at the end. Both games push both pairings.

I could get behind that! VII would hit quite the progressive levels. :P

Or open relationship between all three. Now THAT would be great.

wasn't the game already broken

Broken is a bit strong, but really really exploitable and definitely needing some expanded strategic options and limitations.

I like FFVII (not like my favorite, but I dig it), but it definitely can use for some gameplay upgrades. I just hope Golden Saucer makes it in with improved mini-games, because it's an awesome concept but most of the mini-games were roooough.

Blasphemy. Knights of the Round is the perfect summon for going to make a quick snack

so...many...snacks...during...ultimate...weapons...fight

I really wonder how they're going to keep the sillier moments intact with the new aesthetic. FFVII's wacky moments were a product of a time - part of a transition from very light hearted to more dramatic and realistic started in FFVI and continued by FFVII. FFVII very much had a cartoon-y, some things are real, some things are just there for the sake of a gag feel. I really doubt they can reproduce that exact same effect with updated HD graphics. FFVII's wackiness matched its aesthetic. And those were times when gamers today were younger and more receptive to things that are seen as less mature.

I really think this will be a very different game from the FFVII that came out in the late 90's. The entire context is different. Square is a different company now than it was then. The industry is a lot different. And all of us have changed, too. There's newer generations out there that may or may not be receptive to this kind of game. I doubt they'd see FFVII with the same wide-eyed wonder that many of us did back in the 90's. Times are much different right now.

Also, why are people objecting to Nomura directing this? He worked on the original FFVII as well. And, well, Sakaguchi's gone, so...

Now that the FFXIII games are done with and Motomu Toriyama's madness has faded into the background, is Nomura the "bad guy" once again?

That's not exactly the case. All we know in KH1 is that Cloud is looking for his light, there was no mention of Aerith being it(that one credits scene dont count). By KH2, he has not found anything, and is actively running away from it.

I think your not wrong to say they probably went back and forth a little on implication because of Aerith's importance in his life through her death, but after Crisis core, that was no longer going to be the case.

X had the option of long or short summon animations, can't imagine this wouldn't. Curious how they will function but I'm quite happy with them just being over the top cutscenes for some extra damage.

Oh my God.

There's going to be a new generation of these kinds of debates.

It's coming back, isn't it.
Urgh, I'm getting war flashbacks of a time when people though "Sephiroth Clones" were LITERAL! Remember that?

I think Cloud could've swung both ways(not in that way, but, well, you know) regarding Tifa and Aerith. So is life. I don't believe in true love, though. If your personality resonates with someone and you bring out good qualities in them, and vice versa, and the chemistry's great, you could end up together, plain and simple. There's no "destined one". Keep that Sailor Moon anime shit out of my spiky haired, big sword, limit breakin' video game, dammit!

Hehehe.

This is Nomura's comments on C/A in KH:

Question: What was the thought behind bringing back Aeris [in Kingdom Hearts]?
Nomura: Yes, she died in Final Fantasy VII, but there's no real relation to where she was at or what role she played in FFVII. There's no relationship from FFVII to the Kingdom Hearts stories. I consider them separate stories. But if you play Kingdom Hearts, toward the end, some of the questions about the relationship between Cloud and Aeris in FFVII might be answered. It's sort of like a side story, and this was an extra bonus that I wanted to give to players

And

Question: Okay then, so the person who Cloud is searching for is Aeris, right?
Nomura: Well, what do you think? If indeed it was Aeris, then the bit in the ending was the answer. You might say it was made so that you can take it that way. Cloud is a popular character, and I don't really want to decide myself, yes he is like this. Because players make strong conclusions by themselves, I want to leave room for everyone's line of thought.

So even though he doesn't directly state it, he implies it quite a bit that it was indeed Aeris.

There's a lot of comments by the creators to support both pairings.

It's just GAF really. Nomura is by far still considered a great game designer, and proof of this is that in pretty much any reaction video you can find, the crowd goes crazy over the trailer, and then even more crazy when his name appears.

GAF tends to only look at Nomura's FFXV main character designs and then proceed to hate him.

Comment 1: Too many belts and zippers goddamnit Nomura can you do something else?
Comment 2: Look at these boring as fuck clothes in XV all black? what a drag

This pairing shit feels too familiar to Naruto's with Sakara and Hinata.

Aerith is dead and wears pink so she must be Sakura(with all the Ls she's taking she might as well go full Yamcha and be dead) and Tifa has big boobs so she must be Hinata, Hinata won so there's your answer friends, it is law.

I hate you for comparing VII to Naruto. :(

Neither Nomura nor Sakaguchi directed Final Fantasy VII. Kitase did and Nomura only did character design.

Nomura has had few directing roles outside of Kingdom Hearts, while Kitase has directed and produced many more games than Nomura has.

You're gonna get a tag for that one.

Doesn't sound very conclusive at all TBH, that quote. If the intent was to raise mere thoughts about the question, that definitely did that. But then it was debunked by obvious statements made later. So technically, it doesn't fly.

In truth, we already know that Tifa was supposed to originally be in KH1, but wasn't in for time constraints, so raising a question about Aerith to keep the fandom going was a common sense idea, even if you were going to debunk it later.

You just compared Naruto's writing to FF7. My god. That's a sin of itself.

hey it aint my fault all these pairing arguments feel familiar

:)

Wellllllllllll Naruto liked Sakura when he was younger, Similar to Cloud liking Tifa, but he ended up with someone else when he was older. So clearly Naruto/Hinata implies Aeris/Cloud.

Kill me with bleach please.

But last year had SE giving both sides evidence. They're going to continue supporting both and I doubt they'll ever say who is "canon".

Bleach? You wanna bring Bleach into this you say?

The law of big boobs states Tifa must be Orihime, leaving Rukia(she's technically dead too) to be Aerith. Ichigo is gonna end up with Aizen so everyone loses.

Square-Enix: "In the Final Fantasy 7 remake, your party members will no longer walk 'into' Cloud."

Internet: GAME RUINED IT'S NOT FF7 ANYMORE I'M DONE YOU FUCKED UP SQUARE

At this point I feel like keeping the combat turn based would be a refreshing change of pace from the current JRPG environment. Everything is action RPG or MMO style or whatever the hell awful thing FFXIII was.

Turn based has a place still dammit!

You mean ATB? That has been on the series for a while now actually.

Good, good.

I want all the same massive content upscaled with production values equivalent to FFXV! They better do it! Nothing less will suffice. They also know they need to do it when they can keep a ton of old fans and also attract new. It could be bigger than FFXV to be honest.
