Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

This game is only Metroid by name, it looks nothing like Metroid.

I guess I understand why everyone is frustrated but I shrugged it off -- at least this is not what Retro is working on. We'll have a real Metroid game soon.

Sure but until the disaster that was Other M, Metroid was riding a wave of quality titles. From 2002 onwards we got Zero Mission, Fusion, Prime 1, 2, and 3, Hunters and Pinball. Sadly Sakamoto shat the bed with Other M and the franchise was put on ice, but that's no reason to freak out about this game. It's a silly spin-off like that chibi FF game at the Sony conference, this is not the future of Metroid.

Nintendo's biggest mistake this E3 was thinking they could show a cheap Metroid spinoff without at least acknowledging the future of the main series.
It's not my fault as a fan. Nintendo fucked up by outsourcing to a garbage studio. We paid the price then we're paying the price now.

If this is how I can continue to expect to be treated as a Nintendo fan then they can fuck right off even though I supported them through thick and thin with 3DS and Wii U.

Edit: FF chibi game comes alongside FFXV and FF7remake. This piece of hot shit is all we get for Metroid after 5 years in hiatus since the last piece of hot shit that was Other M.

Lets not kid ourselves. They're burning this generation out as fast as they can and you won't get anything of what Retro is doing until the NX releases. At best you'll see Metroid for NX next year.

Some of you are taking this too seriously.

Wait, you're not referring to Next Level as a garbage studio are you?

I assume you mean Team Ninja but even so Hyrule Warriors turned out pretty well.

The negativity in this thread is so unpleasant. What is wrong with you assholes?

Give Next Level a chance. This isn't a AAA Wii U title, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist.

This already looks better than Other M.
It could be good or bad.
It needs to be playable offline and the artstyle needs to go, it's beyond horrible.
It's looking worse than Prime Hunters though.

1. It doesnt look better... (and believe me i hated metroid other m)
2. Single play is a game with playing mission like metroid hunters. Aka just another first person shooter. You don't play with samus.
3. The multiplay is way worse than prime hunters which imo isn't also a metroid game.

I have no idea what is good about this game... (from what i already have seen, read)
I didn't mind if they didn't used the word metroid in the title.

That's fine.

Rather Retro makes a good game than a bad one, if that means it's on NX so be it. I can wait.

When people have waited eight years for a good Metroid game, and are then dismissively offered an unremarkable three player ball-in-the-goal sports game inexplicably branded as Metroid, does the negative reaction really surprise you?

I can't even bear to call this a spin-off. At least pinball and hunters had a morph ball in it to some capacity.

This is nothing like what I want, I enjoyed the crap out of Hunters but this looks worse. If it's a full priced retail game it's going to bomb. If it is 5-10 bucks I can see some success. But it's clear we are just being burned here.

It surprised the heck outta me. I've never seen such a negative reaction to a spinoff title in my life.

Implying Nintendo will let Retro work with Metroid again instead of a franchise that actually sells, like Donkey Kong does. Also, implying the NX is a home console.

If that is all you think the game is (inaccurate I may add)...I am sorry.

No one knows how it is except Nintendo and the people at the Treehouse seemed to be having lots of fun playing it so I am quite excited.

AAA game development is killing the industry. BUT WE WONT ACCEPT ANYTHING ELSE.

I love Metroid and my initial reaction was pretty scornful. But man, its terrible to see how negative and vitriolic people are about this.

Bullshit.

Look at this. Its a fan concept piece of a 2D indie-styled Metroid game. Its the top image on Reddit/gaming right now, and has been shared on Twitter by hundreds, possibly more.

A cheaper 2D game in the Metroidvania style, outsourced and supervised with a quality studio - heck, even a remake of Metroid 2 - would have gone down infinitely better than what Nintendo presented.

They didn't need to break the bank, and go all AAA game development. They just needed to make a Metroid that was Metroid, and not a sports/co-op multiplayer shooter.

I'm glad you liked it, I came out of GIF retirement to make that. Also, it contains footage of another perfectly great looking Metroid, made on a shoestring budget by one man, to reinforce my earlier points to atbigelow.

This is something Nintendo could have embraced their eShop. This style of release where they take games like Zelda 2, Metroid 2, Kid Icarus, Gumshoe, and make indie style 2D remakes. But they probably figure, why bother when they have Virtual Console. (sigh)

Unfortunately, often it seems Nintendo targets development of the franchise, into accommodating or luring children and casual players, as opposed to fulfilling a checklist for die hard fans.

Strangely Mario Tennis didn't get a purity defense force. Spin-offs are a thing, you don't have to overly scrutinize what it's not trying to be.

That's right, we have no idea what'll happen and no idea what the NX will be.

However, it's entirely possible that Retro will get that franchise again. Metroid might not be a successful franchise commercially, but it's obvious Nintendo still values the franchise in some way, otherwise we wouldn't be speaking in this thread. They wouldn't include Metroid add-ons into games like Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Bayonetta 2.

Nintendo employees people whose job description is to demo Nintendo games for the public seem to be positive about a Nintendo game? Jiminy Jillickers, my doubts are melting away!

Exactly. It would be such an obvious, and inexpensive way to use their IPs.

Oh you made it. Very nice work :D (I already had my suspicion it would originate from GAF :p)

Yeah, I noticed that footage wasn't from an official Metroid. Is it a project that has been released?

Bah, we got Metroid Blast in 2012, this is the same idea.
It can be crazy fun.

Yup the game needs work but the hate it's getting is simply because it's the first/only Metroid game in five years.

I think people should be somewhat happy about the fact they are clearly willing to revisit the series, specifically the Prime subseries.
Between that and Other M, it's a massive step up, it shows that they're willing to expand the Metroid universe instead of whatever the hell Other M was doind.

Gamers are idiots. This game looks super fun.

If Nintendo presented something that 30,000 people say looks bad, it is not the gamers fault. The blame lies with Nintendo, completely.

If the game is good, then they completely mishandled the presentation of it. Completely.

If the game is bad, then it shouldn't exist.

Either way, don't blame 30,000 people for inexplicably sharing the same opinion.

Treehouse is a bit different. You can tell developers are genuinely excited to tell people about their game. I wouldn't blame them, they've spent the last ~2-3 years working on their game. I'd be excited to unveil it and spend 30-40 minutes telling people all about it.

I'm sad for Next level games right now

I feel bad for Next Level Games. They go out and make amazing Mario Sports games, the best Punch-Out title in the series, an awesome sequel to Luigi's Mansion, and this super fun looking game and they get all their hard work shit on and called a garbage studio.

Yes?

This is a spin-off 3DS title by Next Level games. The production of this game has nothing to do with the potential existence of a theoretical $100M Metroid that the people in this thread want (myself included).

Next Level could have made a 3DS Punch-Out!! Or an expanded port of Dark Moon for Wii U. They are making this instead, and I personally think it looks really fun.

The existence of this title does not mean that Nintendo is closing Retro or that they burned the $100M they would have spent on a AAA Metroid. I mean, we still don't know what Retro is working on. Also, they announced 2 3DS Zelda games in the same stream. I don't know how the existence of this spin-off is supposed to preclude the existence of a full Metroid title.

I wonder what a 2D metroidvania on kickstarter by Sakamoto would do? 20 million?

1) oh dear god yes it does.
The whole concept isn't a vanity project made by what appears to be a madman.
2)aka just another fps? that's what was the prime games, they were cool no reasons this can't be either.
3) Woah the game is out already?

You know, creating spinoff titles is a cool idea, let's do that with F-Zero. Let's have Platinum make that fucking Captain Falcon action game :O

Bullshit.

Its really not. Go look a all the people crying in the Star Fox thread about the graphics. That's not the only thing at play here, of course people want a "real" Metroid game, but had this been a Wii U game with realistic graphics, high production values and the exact same gameplay instead of a chibi style 3DS game there's no way people would be losing their minds this way.

I understand why people are let down by this, but the overreactions are borderline hilarious. I feel bad for Next Level more than anything, the game looks legitimately great. Hell, art style aside I wouldn't be surprised to see this game add some great backstory and lore to the Prime universe, setting up Prime 4, a game we all know if going to get made eventually, so we should just chill the fuck out.

For real. A lot of the reactions here are immature and disgusting. I can't believe there is a petition asking for the game to be canceled. Christ.

Destruction caused by a mob is very much the fault of the mob.

Yup. Man-babies are out in full force.

Gamers are idiots. This game looks super fun.

Gamers have overreacted.

For real. A lot of the reactions here are immature and disgusting

So, is it completely the gamers' fault for not liking what they see?

30,000 people say they are unimpressed. The fault is on them for being short-sighted or stupid, unable to see the jewels Nintendo is presenting to them?

Don't blame the gamers for having an honest opinion. Its Nintendo's fault, completely. They botched their presentation, and elicited an honest response. Its either a bad game, or a good game presented badly. Either way, its on them.

Gamers shouldn't be branded as idiots or man-babies or disgusting for their honest opinion. You are allowed your own opinions as the 30,000 people who downvoted are allowed theirs.

There are better ways of bringing a series out of a five-year hiatus than making a spin-off that doesn't even feature the main protagonist without any mention of a new mainline game. The concept isn't the problem so much as the timing.

That's the problem, we don't. There's been no indication of this at all and the Digital Event would have been the place to introduce it.

This isn't what I wanted, but I will give it a chance. Probably never touching that sportball minigame trash. As long as the single player is good I won't care that it's not isolative. Shit I wouldn't mind playing Metroid multiplayer Co-op, just on a system with two full analog sticks.

I'm sure it'll be a neat game. I completely understand the backlash mind, people wanted a new Metroid with Samus and not this spin off. I'll keep an eye on it because I'm sure it'll be decent, but so far I'm not really impressed.
I wish it was another Metroid Pinball tbh.

Though personally hearing about the Sylux and Samus Prime 3 follow up is what has hurt me most of all from all of this. I want that.
