Hero Games announces Cryptic's MMORPG - Champions Online

this is probably the first game i've ever applied for beta and got nothin'. Even after being active on their forums for so long.

kinda hurts.

The Colonel. NPCs don't drop the "The" when they talk to you, so think twice about naming your character with a definite article.

When they talk to him, they call him Batman.

When they talk about him, they call him THE Batman.

"Hey Batman!"

"It's the Batman!"

Same here, but at least I know I'll be in the beta August 4th thanks to the 10,000 keys they gave out for that webzine.

I've been in most betas and alphs since EQ1 and am always worried when the beta app doesn't ask about previous testing history.

First framework up on the site. Electricity!

The method of getting powers is interesting, specializing means you get certain powers quicker.

Requires 3 powers from Electricity or 5 non energy building powers from any framework

Slotted Passive, Damage Buff, Damage Resistance Buff, Energy Form

Your mastery of electricity grants you the knowledge of how to most effectively use your energy powers and how to reduce the effect of your attacker’s energy attacks.
Slotted Passive
Can be slotted in an Offensive or Balanced passive power slot
Only active while in combat
Increases all of your energy (electricity, sonic, particle) damage. This increase scales with your Endurance.
Increases your resistance to all energy effects and greatly increases your resistance to electricity effects. These resistances scale with your Recovery.
Generates a small amount of energy when you are struck with electrical attacks
Increases your energy equilibrium and the rate your energy builds to your equilibrium
Counts as an Energy Form

I really can't wait to see the effects the different elemental forms have, that'll make for some interesting looks when entering combat.
 
Just read they will offer a 6 month subscription plan,and like LoTRO,a lifetime plan also,for 200 bucks.I also asked one of the devs on Twitter about the 360 version and he said it's still coming but later then the PC version.
 
This game actually have me quite interested coming out of nowhere.
How do you think the PvP will be in this game?
Seeing all the different powers and stuff makes me think that it will be kind of hard to balance.

Also what are the features that will make you want to continue playing even when hitting max lvl? Or sets it apart from other MMOs.
I'm not much of a raider, I mostly like to wander around, do some pvp, some instances and stuff like that.

Oh and, how grindish is the game? I'm not much of a hardcore mmoer, and I thought wow had at least a decent pace.

If it is like CoX, you will hit max level, create a totally different character and start over. CoX is probably the MMO with the most alts ever. The fun was in playing, not reaching max level.

Hm, was hopeing for a little more than that. Though I'm a bit of an alto-o-holic I do enjoy to have a main character progress somehow, getting better gear, titles or just mess around with. Which brings me to loot, considering you make most of your choices at the start, Clothes/weapons and the like, how will the loot-system work? :o
That's kind of important.
 
This was a pretty desolate thread, but I suppose there should be an inflation in replies once open beta goes live (which is sometime now in August, right?)
 
Aw man :( I actually registered for the beta when registration went live but I still haven't got a key. Did you get it through some competition or something?

Yeah, I had to "backdoor" it by getting one from the Eurogamer giveaway. I didn't wanna play the "sycophantic forum poster" game on the official forums even though I registered day 1. Kind of a bummer, but doesn't open Beta go online on the 10th or something? :lol :(
 
I'm looking into this game because a more light hearted MMO game is MUCH needed for me after years of heavy, war inspired MMOs over the years.
 
I'm going to get the Lifetime Subscription because after 13 months you've broke even with the pay per month rate. $199.99 is well worth it for me.

I don't care for Star Trek Online, maybe I can sell the beta code.
 
Can you only patch when the servers are up? It currently says "No shards found" under the bar and "Patch" is grey-ed out.

Nice got my key and now downloading, hopefully they'll have an event this Friday as it seems like they are on Wednesday and Friday usually.
 
The Xbox 360 version better not get canceled like it did with Age of Conan. I need an MMO for my consoles and I won't force myself to play FFXI.

I'm sure it's still coming. I'll probably play on the 360 myself, but will start off on the PC.
 
Managed to log a couple of hours last night, playing on my MBP (first gen) and not as smooth as I was hoping with everything at 100% =/

Had a good time though, really enjoying the Ice set, looking forward to trying out other sets this weekend.

Anyone else in beta can hit me up on 'r4z4' which is my global handle.
