Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

I just hope they don't implement ff13 style battle system.

I find that very unlikely. Nomura despite everything is a surprising stickler for tradition, so either he'll go bold and make it a full fledged ARPG, or otherwise update the traditional ATB system (I think X-2 might be the closest representation of what we might see).

Of course, it really depends on how involved he is in the overall direction; Kitase will likely have significant clout in the project as one of its main overseers.

Well, he's already said in another interview that he can't imagine the remake featuring characters and enemies jumping at one-another and then jumping back into place. So while it could feel something like X-2, it probably won't look like X-2.

I'd love to see a breakdown from where most of these are coming from

Snarky comments about release date aside, I don't think 2017 is unrealistic. If this is being outsourced, even partially, then I think its feasible. It's only been in production for half a year? Another 2 and a half for something like this seems reasonable to me, especially if its being developed in UE4, so they're not contending with building a game on an unfinished engine like they are with FFXV.

I'm buying the craziest offered tier of Collector's for this game. Hope they take their time and work until it's ready, not rush it for anniversary.

I think that's what modern ATB should look like visually, but without the paradigm / stagger system. Make it look like that and work like the original VII, and I'm all in.
Also, tone down the UI crap all over the screen. Simple is best (what they seem to have learned with XV).

This is my dream scenario

2016: FFXV
2017: FFVII Remake
2018: FFXVI (Ito)

You and I, ArkhamFantasy. You and I.

I'm going to temper my version ever so slightly, however, for the sake of personal sanity.

2017: FFXV
2018: FFVII-R
2019: FFXVI Ito

That's right, no parentheses next to Ito. Just subtitle it "Ito."

They arent doing any sequels or DLC for XV.

Have they, er, officially stated this? As far as I'm aware (and the NovaCrystalis article backs me up on this) all Tabata said during the most recent Active Time Report is that the original vision of a game with clear and present sequel "hooks" was scrapped as the team (as well as the company) agreed it was best to tell a complete, singular story. That doesn't mean sequels won't exist down the line depending on the game's reception, and it sure as heck doesn't mean DLC won't exist.

Is there more recent news on this front?

Sounds plausible with everyone of them in Fall respectively.

FFXV will definitely be 2016 now that they confirmed the main promotion campaign starting soon at gamescom in August. Who knows, maybe even Spring/Summer '16 if we're really optimistic. I doubt it, though, and I'd rather them polish it more for a few months. This game is crazy ambitious.

FFVIIR was in planning stages/pre-production in 2013 already when Verendus started teasing it before E3 '13. So they very well could have started main production on Nomura's arrival last year.

FFXVI must have at least been in planning stages as the original, “true“ FFXV before the decision to reboot FFXVersus around mid-2012. So there's a chance it might come earlier than we expect. Maybe it's the still unnamed other game that uses Luminous Studio.
According to Verendus it's “not futuristic“ and has a “quite unique“ concept never done before in a FF. Can't wait to see more!

I slept on this, and I need Kagari to come in and reply.

If Sony is really making this a semi-exclusive, and it's for PS4 and maybe PC, then why didn't they extend that to FFXV and Kingdom Hearts III? Unless I missed something, then the latter two are hitting Xbox One.

Is there some game of chess that Sony's playing over this, and they sacrificed the pawns of FFXV and KHIII to protect the king piece of FFVII Remake? I'm confused, Kagari pls.

They've already been announced though, it would be bad for a business relationship if they were to do that.

Can't wait for 3D version.

If you think about it, the remaster is going to clarify quite a lot of things about FF7. Just what WAS bugenhagen sitting on?!!? Was Cloud's dress really made of cubes? Oh so that is why I shouldn't have bumped into emerald weapon

Y2Kev just made me realize that my 18 years and counting of "la, la, la, I'm not listening, no, Bugenhagen is legless and floating and there's nothing you can say or do to convince me otherwise" is going to come to a crashing finish.

I'd imagine that this will be the case.

If there's no Xbox One version of FFVII Remake, but there will be a PC version, I'll get the PC version, no big deal.

FFXV and KHIII for XB1 were planned before the generation started, and before Square Enix would know just how much more the PS4 would sell than its competitor.

Has there been an official statement that the "main promotion campaign" starts this August? All I've read anywhere are various forms of the term "next big reveal." There is, of course, a potential world of difference in the two phrases.
