Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

I hope my preview thing isn't still pending. Annoyed that Perfect Dark won't work though. I own that shit (and PDZ) digitally...

Awesome. Great video! It's quite amazing what Microsoft has been able to do with what I had written off as impossible without special hardware or deemed unimportant by the platform holders.

Hoping Digital Foundry makes some comparisons too.

Still amazes me this is possible,im looking forward to catching up some games i missed on the 360. I'd love it on my Ps4 as well, i've been using PS Now for a few weeks and have been impressed but it was free, now they want to charge me £9.99 per game for 30 days im not so impressed when i could buy 3 PS3 games for £10 to play whenever i want.Come on Sony.

So I know it's a longshot, but is there any chance that by bringing in XBox 360 BC they'll pull in the OG Xbox BC that the 360 had? I was just thinking about it because of the Shenmue 3 news, it'd be cool to pop my XBox Shenmue 2 into an XB1 and have it work.

I was going to post the exact same thing. Would love to be able to play Shenmue 2 and Panzer Dragoon Orta on the XB1. Shenmue 2 is one of the few reasons I can't get rid of my 360.

Yea I got banned on nGAF and B3D for aggressively arguing that these games could be recompiled in VS to run on a new CPU architecture.

Microsoft doesn't have the source for the games, only the completed binaries

It would be a licensing nightmare to hold the source code.

It would also be an even bigger nightmare attempting to recompile everything.

Is there something somewhere to explain how they are doing it, it can't be strait emulation?!?!?!?!?

What they are doing is taking the executable, the emulator and the emulator config and bundling them. The actual game is still in it's same state and does not change. From game to game they may make modification to the emulator config but that's it.

It's somewhat like images on a webpage. You don't need to re-compose them, rather just include them.

If a very kind fellow GAFfer sent me an invite around 24 hours ago, should I be expecting a message of any sort? How do I know I received the invite?

Playing a bit of Kameo and loading up some of the other games, this is really handled well. I think the loading time is better than the originals, but it's been so long that may just be faulty memories.

Thank you, that makes sense of course assents don't change................I wonder if this is something they were envisioning all along?

I wonder how big the average 360 executable was..................

What do you mean it won't work? Mine works.
When I load up the store page via the recommended list workaround, it says "BUNDLE ONLY" which is what it seemingly says when you don't own the game.

I just booted it up and copied my save from my 360 to the cloud. Going to try again.

Anyone have Banjo yet that I can add as a friend to download?

Keep in mind that installing games to the HDD on the 360 also generally increased load times so it could be a result of it not reading directly from the disc too.

you get an XBL message with a code to download the preview app. Getting an invite doesn't guarantee participation in the preview program though.

They had to pay Nvidia licensing fees for every 360 HDD they sold because each one had a copy of the OG Xbox emulator on it. No chance they'd bring it back to the One.

I just dug this out of a box in the basement while looking for Xbox 360 games

I remember good things about that one. Kinda want to play it now.

There is a BC 360 screenshot thread out there that I cant find. Someone posted a picture of playing Banjo the N64 game. How did he do that? Can someone who posted in the thread find mt the thread link

That's kinda why making games on demand versions on 360 (also merely a paperwork submission) and 360 HD installs was possible. MS seems to have done a good job in making 360 games fairly self-contained like isos in a way.

That's why I hope there's some loophole for the delisted games, if they're just repackaging the game image as a whole somehow. But knowing how restrictive licensing can be they're could just as easily be a tiny technicality to prevent it.

I recall that UMvC3 got delayed from being put up on games on demand for some time because of an issue over a logo already in the game.

Funny that people are voting for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat considering the servers got shut down years ago.

But if we're drumming up votes, Syndicate has a criminally low number of votes: https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/298503?query=syndicate

I really wonder about games the servers have gone offline. If the publisher says "ok" could MS just use Azure to set up some servers? Its not like they will need to cope with thousands and thousands of players. Heck they could have a few VM's that cover all of the servers needed for older games.

I hope the above is possible, since I would kill to play ChromeHounds MP again.

Okay, this is really neat. I don't understand why you'd have to download the games themselves though. Why not just download the config file and rip the data from disc? And needing publisher approval for emulating a game is weird.

BUT what I'm really wondering is X360 on Windows 10 on PC is possible. I mean, it seems they have an emulator that's surely up to snuff that works on XB1 why not sell that commercially for $100.

I want Black Ops 2, I have been in the mood to play that again but I dont ever turn my 360 on and dont want to go back to that controller. I might rebuy it but well see. Fingers crossed but I'm sure it wont be anytime soon

So if I own them on XBLA, I can just re-download them? All my 360 XBLA arcade game will work?

Not all and not yet...there is a list of what works so far

Expect all first party games sans Kinect to work...otherwise we are at the mercy of publishers...but games like fallout 3 and the two vegas rainbox six games are coming as they will be included in future bundles

Am seriously impressed with how well it all works. Xbox emulation on the 360 was always a fairly spotty experience, and never an optimal way to play a game, but this seems flawless so far. Mind boggling that they got it working so well.

Any that have been OK'd by the publisher and made available will automatically show up in your "ready to download" section on the right of the Games/Apps page. I ended up with more games ready to go than I have hard drive space for, right now.
