lol there's nothing androgynous about VII's original designs.

sure the anime styling lends the cast a similarity that's true of any anime styling but they look like fairly distinctively men and women.

ETA. not that there's anything wrong if they didn't but in the original, they didn't.

I disagree. "Androgyny" should not be looked at as bad. They are effeminate, your masculinity should not be questioned because of a design.
I fully agree with this but at the same time this should apply to characters originally designed this way, not ones who had a design and then became androgynous.

Maybe it's not his effeminate qualities that turn me off so much. Probably a bad choice of words. I think it has more to do with the fact that he just looks so fucking alien. Like if he existed as is in the real world, everyone he met would get the immediate first impression that he's just a creepy looking dude. Something just needs to be redone because his realistic design does the exact opposite of drawing me into a universe.

Cloud's design isn't androgynous but it also lacks your usual masculine traits

He has a very slim build and his face could actually pass for either gender when taken on its own, but I think that's more due to the simplicity of the art than an intentional thing

EXACTLY

they're so fucking creepy looking in that pseudo realistic anime jpop idol style

Wouldn't Cloud being able to easily pass as a desirable woman enough of a hint that he kinda has a little bit of androgyny?
with makeup and a wig on, sure.

the problem is that now, he passes for a woman without it.

Man, I hope they keep all the characters' side stories in there...

Barrett with the shanty town
Red XIII and his dad
When Tifa went into Cloud's mind (wait wat)
Just a few off the top of my head

Holy dog shit. I just watched the Game Trailers live reactions. Best shit I've seen, and I haven't even played a Shenmue game, and I only watched a friend play FFVII back in the day. I'm almost in tears of joy anyway, lol!

Other than the vague implication that Sony is funding it we don't know jack shit about it.
Like I said before, I think the "play it first on PS4" implies it's also coming to the PC on a later date. Square has yet to announce a big JRPG (or non online FF for that matter) for PC before its console release because they know people double dip, but more importantly, they want people to buy PS4's. They're betting everything on it this gen that the PS4 becomes the dominant console for them to sell their JRPG's on (we're strictly talking about consoles here)

An eventual Xbox One release is a bit tricky as there is a very low demand for JRPG's on MS' console, the fanbase is pretty low right now. Will that fanbase grow in the time FFVII is being developed? Yes. Is that growth going to be something substantial that would change SE's strategy? Hell no. Why would a respectable matgin of JRPG fans buy the console with the least amount of JRPG games?
The people who think that an Xbox One version would help this game to reach the 10 milliom mark are crazy I tell you, crazy.

Keep original costumes for all the characters, maybe with very slight refines. It would be nice to give AC costumes as alternate costumes.

I honestly don't understand why the "what systems will FF7R appear on?" is still being debated, especially with the vague knowledge we have now. People should look at what we do know and go off that.

  • Nothing FF7 related has appeared on a non Sony system except for that one mobile phone game
  • The original FF7 was released on PS1 and then went to PC
  • Sony had distribution rights to the original game in NA and EU
The assumption should be that FF7R is going to go the route of SFV until we're told otherwise.

If anything, the PS4 version alone can reach those numbers. The potential for a PC version on Steam will almost guarantee it.

This is another FF15 circa 2006 bullshit. SE is pitching games. If they were anywhere working on it, they'd have something to show or tell. But in typical SE bullshit fashion, they have a video reel pitch. Don't expect this for at leat another three years with bullshit peppered all between.

the last few times I played I think I kept my party pretty much exclusively Cloud, Tifa, Barret the whole time; but when I was a kid Vincent and his limit breaks ruled. it only sucked when you'd fight a boss that absorbed fire or whatever.

well it is a HUGE STEP FORWARD compare to FF7 PS3 tech demo when square saying 'FF7 remake will not be made. EVER'.

I slept on this, and I need Kagari to come in and reply.

If Sony is really making this a semi-exclusive, and it's for PS4 and maybe PC, then why didn't they extend that to FFXV and Kingdom Hearts III? Unless I missed something, then the latter two are hitting Xbox One.

Is there some game of chess that Sony's playing over this, and they sacrificed the pawns of FFXV and KHIII to protect the king piece of FFVII Remake? I'm confused, Kagari pls.

Both were announced before the PS4 started outselling the Xbox One as much as it has so SE probably put that on both so that they have eggs in both baskets in the event that one takes off faster than the other. Plus cancelling Xbox One ports of those two would hurt business relationships with Microsoft which SE don't want to do.

I don't think that Square is going to be pulling anything like that under their new management. They seem to actually have shit in gear now.

I just hope they dont mess up the overworld or turn the combat system into some action oriented thing. And no map point to point airship.

Ughhhhh....

I was a huge fan of the original when it came out. Probably the biggest game of my childhood and I think the first game I ever preordered. But it's been such a long time since then and my tastes, especially when it comes to art style and design, have drastically changed.

Anyone else absolutely turned off by modern day Square designs like this? I mean Cloud just doesn't work for me in this realistic setting. His hair is omfg awful looking and I know it's a common thing to hear, but he does straight up look like a girl. While I really want to shake off this cynicism and be as blindly hopeful as I was in my youth, I have very little faith that I'll even pick up the game at this point. I wouldn't even mind if they used a cell-shaded, cartoon look. Anything but this please!

Anybody agree with me? I want to be excited and hyped but I just can't with girl Cloud.
^ Lol western-centric gamer was tricked into playing an animu game in their childhood.

FF characters were always supposed to be pretty. You can look at the covers of the Famicom games and see very pretty men.

How would people feel about a truescale world map, everything is in proportion - but you get to keep the bike from the escape sequence as a replacement for going on foot? Which would work until the Midgar swamp, at which point a bike would sink too deep so you use a chocobo to get across as usual... maybe the bike can like... fold up or something so you can use it when you're out the other side.

The world map would be like the travelling sequences from Advent Children then, and you could have battles whilst riding the bikes around just as easily as on foot.

Excuse the vid quality, but basically the world map could be like this:

I'm optimistic about an earlier (2017) release because of the following.

1) At least one other developer (CC2) is working on it as well.
2) FFXV is taking a lot of time because of the Luminous engine. FFVIIR will probably be using the UE4.
3) According to an interview they actually do have screenshots of the game however are holding back until this winter to release more details.
4) 2017 is the 20 year anniversary of FFVII and it would make sense.

I could roll with this.

tifa is working in a bar, then immediately is moved into combat while working
which then is immediately followed by her home being crushed by the plate collapsing

but either way. designs do not need to be justified in this way. There is nothing wrong with a skirt in a fantasy game
And yet, you're trying to. By suggesting her outfit is because "she had no time to change". Fucking lol, I can't believe someone actually made this argument seriously.

i answered it twice, as you were the one that tried to require a justification to it, so I gave you a justification, even though it is unecessary.

If you did play FFVII you would know that she really didnt have time to change. Could she have bought clothes once they got to kalm, sure, but from the bar until kalm she didnt.

Its irrelevant though, as it doesnt need justifying

Anyone super excited for CC2 to be apart of this project? They are gonna keep this shit on track i guarantee

Using common sense/already known info to predict that it won't come to Xbox doesn't mean people don't want it to come to Xbox. The reality is it almost certainly won't come to Xbox.

To be honest, I think it'll come to the X1, but the game is essentially a defacto PS4 exclusive either way. Nobody is going to buy an X1 to play a worse version of FF7R 6 months or a year late. Any X1 only owner that really want to play this game will buy a PS4 to do so. Most of the sales(which won't be a lot to begin with) of a hypothetical X1 version will be from casual gamers who would buy the game because of its reputation.

where did you hear this?

I'm actually the most excited for Gold Saucer. Give me HD chocobo racing!

This is just not true. She has time to change for Don Corneo and hide in a grunt uniform along with the others.

Plenty of times they stop and she has the chance to change.

Oh well. Hopefully somebody mods the game to make the characters look more like they did originally if the character designs deviate too much. Or mod some pants on Tifa for the people who would make them happier.

I got the order of events wrong in my head, basically forgot how reactor number 5 plays out well before the plate collapse. I was just scraping for an unnecessary justification anyway

I mean you can like the design and I understand why people are going to defend it, it's iconic. But I just don't like the idea behind her whole design back then. There's ways to tighten the design up without taking a way the whole look and I don't see why shorts would ruin it.

So...do you guys think there is any chance this has already been in development, or will it be like the Kingdom Hearts 3 thing where two years from now we get a "now in development" update? Square is bizarre in how they announce games (the Japanese ones anyway) waaaay early.

I would normally just assume that FF7 is on the usual Square timeline and will be out in 2019 or something, and even then I'd still be happy it is getting made at all. But the 20th anniversary of FF7 is coming up in 2017 and I do have the slightest hope the remake has had maybe 6 months to a year of work done on it already and will make it in time for the anniversary.

And if this questions has already been answered, I apologize. I took Monday off work to watch the press conferences but have been busy ever since that fun day and haven't been able to closely follow any updates.

I'm pretty sure Nomura said it was in production before the port of the PC version was announced last year. I'm thinking they started work on it soon after Kitase was removed from FFXV, but I think it was still an early announcement.
