I wasnt sure about the weird ones then and even less so today lol :

This one actually needs to stay.

If you think about it as a mimic(just like treasure chests) its not that weird(but still weird)

With all of these potential changes to happen in the remake I think I'll still pick up the PC port. All I've had to play for the last 18 years were slowed down PAL versions, so playing a better version will be nice. :)

Plus all of this talk about the special moments is giving me an itch to play through it again.

They need to add shit tons of Materia. One of my favorite things was equipping my Materia and changing stats, finding cool ways to link various moves, and coming up with the most broken set ups I could imagine. So much flexibility is what made it great.

Dude saying to tone Materia down is crazy. They need to crank it up to 11. More abilities, more ways to connect Materia skills, more spells, more effects, ect.

If you're going to play the original again, definitely play the PC version with bootleg. Improved character models, texture, UI, translation fix, hard mode, etc.

If they are going to make more materia + combos I hope they increase the difficulty a bit as well.

Not that the game is meant to be difficult but way too many materia combos are absurd. And that's ignoring Enemy Skill on its own.

All y'all saying they should turn it into an action RPG or speed it up a lot and add QTEs must have ADD or something. The fights in the original play out plenty fast enough, if you go too fast you end up with FF13 combat, only able to control one character and spamming auto battle.

Watched the trailer again, and got goosebumps all over again. Gametrailers got it right, this was a 10/10 trailer. Perfect. The narration, the music, the editing, the cuts, the pacing. Flawless. The official Playstation uploaded one is almost up to 8 million views now, crazy.

It has so many subtle callbacks to the original. It actually gives me hope for the actual game if it pays as much careful attention to the original as the trailer did.

Yeah, exactly the thing I loved about materia too. Tons and tons of materia with lots of different combos would be awesome. Maybe they could even add (secret?) passive bonus combos, like linking three particular materia would give the character a +xx% EXP passive bonus etc etc etc

I LOVE JRPGs where you can tinker with a shitton of stuff like this

There's people on my Facebook who don't play games anymore sharing that video and saying they'll play it to revisit their youth

This is going to be something special

Marketing really needs to capitalise on that lost group of ex-gamers, especially in Japan

And things like airship, undersea exploration, gold chocobo?
Still probably going to be like FFXV, the devs and designers will probably need to scale the maps area so that its not going to be a hassle to walk from town to town or too short to fly from area to area.

Or they could introduce vehicles by keeping cloud's bike and the 3 wheel truck after they leave midgar so the scale of the world could be massive.

Gold/special color chocobos would still be bounded by their travel abilities.

undersea explorations would be a new huge area altogether.

Thinking about it makes me feel excited already.

I'm curious as to how they are handling the translation, hopefully we will get some insight to how they are gonna approach it.

Hopefully they don't get too flowery with their words.

Also, I hope they change the chocobo's from saying "Wark" to "Kweh" I've like that way more since FFIX.

got a Deus Ex/Ghost in a Shell/Terminator sort of vibe from the trailer, that looked nothing like a Final Fantasy game until the very end
Not that surprising as there is a lot in common in terms of atmosphere. FF VII always was rather punkish and dark. In a word, it's rather ominous. VI would be, perhaps, epic, and IX would be fantastical. But for VII, it would be ominous. It begins rather depressed and political, too, but often borders on mystery and horror. The bloody Shin-Ra HQ hallways or the impaled Midgar Zolom are for me the two most ominous scenes in the series. But apart from being a little more dark (literally, not ethically) and ominous, there's a punk tone to FF VII. Probably closer to steampunk than cyberpunk because of the similarities between mako and steam and also the wider range of natural environment, but the general high tech, low life of cyberpunk and the general political resistance of punk definitely makes sense in how it could invoke those other pieces. A lot of my own interest in FF VII's setting is from the general Midgar and Shin-Ra Electric Power Company theme, and probably comes from an area less akin to Final Fantasy IV-VI and more akin to Deus Ex and Shadowrun.

In an odd coincidence, Lawrence Barrett form Deus Ex Human Revolution always reminds me of Barret Wallace. Similar physical stature but even similar flattop haircut. Even more so, the big bulky size and flattop military crewcut is accompanied by a similar cajun accent, and then an arm gun augmentation to boot. Between the body, size, hair, and arm gun, Barrett is a veritable Barret in Tai Yong Medical augs.

Nibelheim and the shinra mansion are also really horror like.

you know, the people in black robe in the northern crater just moving along, dying on the spot or falling down ravines is kinda hominous as well, or the ones in nibelheim and how they went and standed in places where the original townspeople standed before the sephiroth thing, and what they say kinda led me to think they were the original townspeople as well

I wonder if the G-Bike designs for the characters are secretly also the FFVIIR designs.

Barret's design is really good in G-Bike. On the other hand, I'm not sure I like Tifa's design; they clearly didn't go with her Advent Children boob size:

Then again that's the artwork. On the 3D model it looks more reasonable:

Funny thing is the best selling FF ever was FFVII. If they change it people, like me, will be really apprehensive in purchasing it. Seriously I will boycott this out of sheer fucking principle if they change the battle system in some crazy way.

I want fucking ATB circa 2015. I want to see Barrett twirl that chaingun and create a giant fireball that blasts enemies to hell in glorious 2015 engine capability. I want to see Cloud go apeshit with his sword during a limit break with today's engine capabilities. I want to see spells with actual good effects applied. I WANT TO SEE ODIN AND KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND WITH A CURRENT GEN ENGINE.

We have this one chance to get it and they better not fuck it up

This can't be quoted often enough.

Cave of the Gi and Cargo Ship (second half) too. I always love it when RPG has these horror like locations, which is why I love Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 so much.

yep horror elements can enhance the atmosphere of rpgs to an insane degree
first time playing i didnt even want to go in the hidden cellar of the shinra manson because of the music and atmosphere^^°

It's funny how appropriate this quote from the trailer is:

"The reunion at hand may bring joy, it may bring fear.. but let us embrace whatever it brings."

No idea where this originated but I would pay obscene amounts of money for it. Just make that the classic gray anniversary system and controller

While of course this is way fake, when such a package does come out I'll jump on it in a heartbeat. I'll buy whatever expensive collectors edition they put out, no matter the cost. I already own a PS4 but would have no issue grabbing another.

FFVII with FFX's battle system would be perfect in all honesty. Remove the random battles and we have a winner.

I'd be okay with this. FFX's system with a few tweaks is a perfectly updated 7 system. But that's still characters standing in a line jumping back and forth

Why can't they just upgrade FFX-2's ATB system? That game had the most "realistic" ATB system of all the games. Not to mention it's by far the most fun to battle with.
