I'd be okay with this. FFX's system with a few tweaks is a perfectly updated 7 system. But that's still characters standing in a line jumping back and forth

Yeah, Nomura seems keen on making it an action RPG, which is fine by me.

As long as the battle system isn't MMO-like I am happy.

Barret's design is really good in G-Bike. On the other hand, I'm not sure I like Tifa's design; they clearly didn't go with her Advent Children boob size:

Then again that's the artwork. On the 3D model it looks more reasonable:

You know, thinking about it, if they keep this sort of shading going on, then the random humorous scenes will play out fine. Its still far enough from realistic to play fine.

The #1 biggest issue this game will face will be the Voice Acting, it will make or break the mood of the game. We all played FF7 without it, we all have our own voices in our heads, all the charecters in our heads read every line of dialogue in perfect fashion for the emotions we are experiancing in the scenes. Its going to be a tall order to find good VO talent (which I feel square has been the worst in the industry at) that will play these scenes well enough to get it right, esspecially considering how FF7 can go from super dead serious melodrama to odd ball panty stealing.

As long as I have full control over my part and have the same choices I had in 7's battle system, I'll live. I still think changing up the battle system is a bad idea though.

An improved FFX-2 system would be nice, but what I really want is something along the lines of Trials in the Sky which is basically FFX with positioning, attack ranges and whatnot

Maybe combine the two

There is not a single quote supporting this, everyone is all just infering from ONE quote about the party not lining up how they were. That does not mean action rpg.

This. The quote actually reads to me like Nomura still wants to keep the battle system ATB turn-based, but making them less robotic and more realistically represented.

This going by the previous games he created, eg. Kingdom Hearts series and FF Versus XIII.

Neither of those games had an already establish materia system and hundreds of different limit breaks, summons, magic effects and statues effects to find a place with. An action RPG just plane wouldnt support all of that. So either we loose the majority of established battle elements in the game (of which Materia is also a plot device) or you find a way to adapt a more cinematic approach to the ATB. If I was a betting man, all my money would be on this staying turn based just heavily refined to look more dynamic. They do not want to have to make a whole new materia system or lose moves just to make the game play like Kingdom Hearts/FFXV.

Advent Children's voices were acceptable to me, I'm not too concerned about that.

At least, the Japanese voices were. Sephiroth's English VA was garbage.

FFVII with FFX's battle system would be perfect in all honesty. Remove the random battles and we have a winner.

Yeah, FFX's battle system has a great foundation to be built upon into something even better. What I said earlier:

I know they're probably going for speed, but what if speed is traded for strategy? IE rather than ATB or faster ATB or action or hybrid, go full turn-based ala FFX or Bravely Default. I'm completely okay with that. Let me take time in battles to do anything. Give me more customization options in battles via materia allocation. Give the characters more character-specific abilities other than limit break that makes them individually unique and useful in different ways. Let me switch characters in and out of battles freely and see the turn order of allies/enemies, potentially manipulating them. Give the enemies more strengths and weaknesses to make the fights more thought provoking.

anybody else hope the first scenes with Cid are kept intact? It will be so rough to witness in HD. I think a lot of people will hate Cid for a while after that, and thats how it should be

They're gonna nuder Cid in this remake.

Really hope they don't, but their is a lot of stuff FF7 did that are just not politically correct anymore. I hope they stay intact though as their was reasons for everything.

The English voices lacked any range, they played the whole thing super depressive/borderline emo. It's hard to imagine those voices playing fun/silly scenes. I'd love to be prove. Wrong though :)

But it's not supposed to be politically correct, he's clearly portrayed as being an asshole.

I really hope they don't change Cid's character to appeal to this growing oversensitivity that is plaguing entertainment media.

I hope they don't neuter the Turks. In Advent Children Reno was so cool that you'd almost forget that he had no qualms mass-murdering everyone under that one plate in Midgar.

FFVII tackled a lot of real world issues in its story, many of which are still relevant today, and it blended it perfectly into its world. Its one thing I really want to see in HD, I think itll be more weighted (and make the lighter scenes that much more important)

Cold blooded corporate assassin to comic relief character. Granted, the turks became more and more comic relief as the game went on post-sector 7.

so, continuing the thoughts on Cid, quoting off of memory
"Get back in the fucking kitchen and make them some goddamn tea" its just vicious berating, and Shera blames herself for it. Its such a real world type scenario and would love to see it tackled like this in HD

Advent Children already destroyed the Turks as characters

Cold blooded corporate assassin to comic relief character. Granted, the turks became more and more comic relief as the game went on post-sector 7.

AC just naturally extended the character evolution (devolution?) of the Turks from the end of FF7. FF7 never fully presented the Turks as mass murdering evil assholes after the actual plate incident itself. They became progressively cooler and devil-may-care about their work. By the end, they were just the reluctant antagonists, not even villains.

If it were real, this would look nice next to my FFVII:AC PS3. :3

Plus, make the the LED of the PS4 lifestream colored when it turns on.

You want me to go bankrupt, don't you.

Someone should just ask Nomura what the policy is with some of the characters and swearing. AKA, Barret and Cid.
Bleep that shit. Barret needs to talk like the goddamned marshmallow sailor he is

Most of the Turk's comic relief came Elena being a rookie though. Reno, Rude and Tseng were still pretty serious through the entire game.

True, but even Reno, Rude and Tseng lay off in Wutai.

What I liked about the Turks is that they behaved like actual people with feelings rather than caricature. They enjoy visiting the bars and drink, and if it's off-duty, they don't give much shit about Cloud even if they're pursuing him. Just chilling, and teasing each about their love interest. :D

The Turks are freaking salarymen!

It's great.

9 hours on my replay. Got up to Costa Del Sol.

Everything is just so much faster and smoother on PSP.

Me too! I dont know how people say the game hasnt held up. It looks and plays great on my vita, all the stylized art other than the overworld charecter models holds up well.

I wish I had the PC mod that changed the overworld models into the updated ones.

Aside from that, the game is fast and responsive, compared to how long everything took on PS1.

Also, color me surprised that I didn't know Rude was chilling in a bar in Junon, just drinking and bullshitting. I'm finding out stuff I never knew about a decade and a half later!.

The Turks are awesome. Their character is awesome. They just don't give 2 shits about anything happening and just do whatever they want. Should be some funny shit voice acted, especially Reno lol.

The Turks seemed sooo strange to me as a kid. I was used to villains just being cliche evil in general, and then I played FFVII and there were those guys that talked a lot and constantly did weird non-villain things before and after battles. Not really comic relief things, just weird things. It didn't help that I was playing the French version which had an even worse translation than the English version.

I especially like that Rude's little crush on Tifa means in actual gameplay he won't attack her in battle unless she's the only character left alive. Attention to detail.

Same. I was like "You're supposed to kill me!".

This, I live in the US so while shitty it wasn't as bad as your translation.
I got a good gist of what the turks were like and I too was expecting them to act a certain way.

I actually was pleasantly surprised by how chill they were and while they were the bad guys they had feelings and motivations of their own. Was Rude ever voiced in AC? I don't really remember but he talks in VII I imagine a deep yet quiet voice in my head.

I don't think there was ever a moment where I felt like The Turks were bad.

Shinra's son Rufus was a huge asshole, so he rode The Turks extra hard to chase Sephiroth and the party.

I sympathized with all of their regrets for having to work under Rufus. They were more like a group that would've made for really cool party members less than enemies.

I imagine Rude being voiced by Phil Lamarr.

Reno...Quinton Flynn was fine as a voice I think.

I think alot of the AC voices were ok but lacking in range, but with better direction etc they could be fine.

I wonder who people would have voice Sephiroth? I actually thought George Newbern did pretty well but it's such a small part of Sephiroth's life that whoever voices him has to be able to voice his "past" personality as well as his Post-Nibelheim one.

The voice acting in Advent Children was disgusting, and there is absolutely no reason 12 years later to use the same actors. No one is married to the idea of the Advent Children cast. If this thing is going to be voice acted (and I hope it isn't) they need to go with something exponentially better than what they have been doing, because they have been some of the worst in the business for years and years.

To me bad voice acting will render the game completely unenjoyable, though I might SOLDIER on through to see the updated locales.

The comments about how ATB systems are "ye old" and would be rejected by the market, whereas real time combat is "modern" are egregious as fuck. There are massively successful titles that employs ATB systems (Persona, Pokemon) and sells loads of games. Not every single RPG ought to be a Devil May Cry-ish game

Not that I oppose to an improvement / revision of ffVII's combat system, though, but if they want to keep the original's feeling:

- Make every party member controllable. Kicking ass with other characters is a great way to bond with them!
- Make materia an integral part of the system, for it was heavily tied to the plot. It would also be great if they could tone down a little the whole "character homogenization trought materia" that the original system brought, though
- Keep its ATB roots so you can min-max status, optimize equipement and devise broken strategies for defeating the legendary Weapons

A modified ffX / ffX-2 system that preserve these elements would be quite well-suited for this remake, IMHO.

I hope they keep Tifa's boob size. I know girls in real life with huge boobs. Now that Lara Croft has been downsized, they need a new spokesperson outside of dumb fighting games.

I would find it much less erk inducing if they allowed subtitles and japanese voice acting for EU and US release on top of english voice overs for those that just don't have time for dat.
