Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

Only 12 hours for the main quest? Absolutely perfect for me. Will get this now. No time for bullshit 100 hour open world fetch quests for me! This looks really polished too!

as someone who is slagging through the main quest of wither 3 I agree !!!

Witcher 3 is remarkable, arguably the best game I have ever played and I appreciate how big they made everything but as a 30 year old working father.....it gets to be a bit much.

Fuck. Stupid Batmobile. Never asked for that...

Also story is the weakest in the series? Nooo

I guess we wont get such good hallucinations as in Asylum.

Hmm only 12 hrs story? A bit of a bummer. 16-18 hrs would have been better.

I bet a lot of content is held back as dlc.

That is just the main story, which focuses on Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight. It sounds like a lot of the other big villains have their own separate "Most Wanted" side story arcs that are optional. Then on top of that theres all the Riddler stuff.

That isn't true. They brought in the writer of Crysis 1, Crysis 2 and Killzone: Shadow Fall to have the writer spot Paul Dini would have occupied.

lol.

Oh shit what the fuck?

How could you do this Rocksteady?

Ok that sounds pretty damn cool. I hope there is a lot of content, I loved the Riddler challenges. I have faith in Rocksteady..

Once again yall are really overrating TAS guys' work on this game series

Asylum and city stories sucked ass, and conroy sounded like he didn't even want to be there

Only mainstay from the old show who actually showed up was the voice of Harley Quinn

I assume the PS4 version makes more sense since it comes with the scarecrow mission? Am going to pre order it so just want to be sure, this is my very first Batman game :-)

EVERYONE was asking for something new after Origins. We just may have ended up with a Monkey's Paw situation here.

Well I never played Origins.. :p

I certainly dont think the series needed something as drastic as the Batmobile. Well maybe, but not turn it into a freaking tank with missiles

Was that ever confirmed? I tried finding any info on it when I first read that a few months ago, but the only info I found was on Wiki and the writing credits on Arhkam Knight didn't match those of Crysis 1&2, or Shadow Fall.

Edit: Never mind, I found it. :(

But then people would complain there isnt anything to do.

Personally I thought Arkham Asylum worked better because of the super linearness, but people begged for a open world, the problem is, you have to fill it up with something...ergo random side missions and inevitable car chases.
Oh, I know. And I'm totally fine with skipping the busywork when its readily apparent.

It's just a bit disappointing with the open-world Arkham games that there are a few brilliant side missions, and you just wish the rest didn't feel like throwaways. And it's not always obvious until you've gotten a little ways into a side quest if it's going to be a good one or a lousy one.

I love the previous three Arkham games, so it's not something that's going to ruin the experience for me or anything. It's just one area I was hoping to see Rocksteady improve upon with this one.

Jesus, the amount of people giving the gamespot reviewer shit on Twitter. How dare he have a different opinion. He should be giving it a 10 with the other reviews.

Sorry if this has been asked, but do we know how Riddler trophies are handles this time out? Are they awesome puzzles like in Asylum, or collectible trinkets with a few disguising as weak puzzles like in City?

There are few things more hilarious than the lack of logic in berating someone for having a wrong opinion over something he's played, and you havent.

Ok i need a recommendation i can buy any of the batman games before Arkham Knight to kinda get a feel for the series. Which do you recommend? I have heard Asylum is the best but just want Gafs oppinion, and also remember this will be my first batman game ever, i wanna get ready for Arkham Knight.

Yeah this is commonplace now with any major release. If you're seen going against the pack you get ripped apart. People want the thing they've spent money on or excited for to be great and get angry when it's indicated that it isn't.

Just checked the credits of Crysis 3, he was also a 'Lead Story Designer' for that game.

I'd say Arkham and City. Origins isn't relevant to the story. If you really only want to get one City is the most pertinent to Arkham Knight in terms of story based on what we know.

All of the games are fantastic, lots of people would claim each are the best. City will give you the best feel for what to expect from Knight. They changed the formula a bit with it and never really went back. I prefer City, though I find Asylum easier to replay because it's so compact. For that reason alone it might best fit your time frame before Knight releases, if you're intending to get it on Tuesday.

Play Asylum, then City, then Knight. There is no reason whatsoever to skip any of those (well, the first two at least... can't vouch for Knight yet).

Is the GOTY edition worth the extra few dollars? I only ask because i can get pretty much both Asylum, and City for the same price as Asylum GOTY edition.

The GOTY content for Asylum is 100% disposable. If this is entirely a matter of budget just get Asylum and City, you don't need the DLC for either.

I think Asylum is the best, and it's also the first so it's a good place to start. But City would probably give you a better feel for the type of game Knight is. Although you might risk burning out by playing City and Knight back-to-back (and I'm pulling that out of my ass, Knight might still feel very different from City).

They are both great games so I wouldn't skip either. If you aren't in a hurry to get Arkham Knight, I'd highly recommend playing them both. If I *had* to recommend just one, I'd say go with Arkham Asylum, but that's just me.

Yea think im gonna go with Asylum, strictly by looking at reviews it seems to have the best review response.

I would start with Asylum as well. I really wish there were more clones of Asylum being produced this gen.

That's true. Origins got beaten to death with a bat named "Just More of the Same."

I really enjoyed Origins. In fact, I replayed them all last year and Id say I enjoyed replaying Origins much more than I did Asylum. However, in terms of gameplay, it really doesnt add anything. Theres only 2 new enemy types, 1 new gadget, and you have 1 buddy character that is just a reskinned Robin. Also, every side mission uses the exact same structure as AC. So instead of Titan canisters, you blow up weapon caches. The counterattacking enemies are the only gameplay addition Id like to see in AK.

That is so true, lol. Knowing that the main quest is at that length is what pushed me over to buy this.

The story was never the main draw for me in those games. Those games always have a few really awesome moments packed in an overall mediocre storyline (and I really liked how City ended). The critical path is often quite short but Batman always has to do a bunch of stuff in between that doesn't really feel like it connects to the rest of the game.

I'm mainly looking forward to the challenge maps. I spend a ton of time doing those in City, they really made each of the characters feel different. The Arkham games are also still the best when it comes to the sheer amount of different animations you can see. I was still discovering new stuff hours in. I think that's where games like Shadow of Mordor fall short, you don't have as many options and there aren't as many animations when variety is critical since you spend a lot of time punching (or in SoM's case slicing) dudes.

It's also the reason why I think locking characters behind preorder DLC stuff is a really shitty thing to do. I don't care about whatever skins are exclusive to retailers but characters are something that really adds to the time I'll spend with that game.

What a surprise, almost every review calls out the Bat-Tank for being shit. Almost like it was a forced addition to appease the publisher so they could advertise it as MORE and BIGGER and BETTER, despite the fact that the Tank doesn't make any goddamn sense for Batman, or for the game that Rocksteady created. I'm so sour on this fucking thing. I hope the rest of the game is good, but every time I see that fkkn tank my hopes for this game plummet.

I could not have a more opposite feeling. I love the addition of the Batmobile. It'll add some much needed variety to traversal. I'm extremely excited for it. Rocksteady came out and said they designed the game around the batmobile so calling it a forced addition is just wrong. Maybe they could have done better, but it wasn't shoehorned into the game for the sake of adverts/publishers.
