Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

I've watched that gif about 100 times today and it wasn't until this one that i realized he's actually throwing someone out of the car

I just noticed it now after reading this, LOL.

The next game where hopefully you fight Superman will be Epic.

Yeah, the Batmobile stuff not being that great isn't surprising, it just looked bland from what we've seen and that chase sequence with Firefly that was demoed at E3 was dreadful so I would definitely have an issue with not being able to do that via gliding especially since gliding still seems to be the most efficient means of travel. Not really being in much danger from the early tanks and whatever while in the BM though isn't an issue for me because I think it should be an almost unstoppable force early on, forcing the villains to up their game over what may be considered an "unexpected" development.

This game has full controller support on PC right?

It would be very strange if it didn't.

From the beginning I said I don't get why they shoved the Batmobile here. The flying in these games is so much fun and a much better way of traversal.

But besides that it all sounds great. Day 1.

Holy crap! Just played a couple hours. Even though this is the fourth game in the series, they made it feel so fresh. First of all they put tweaks on everything. It seriously doesn't feel like just another Arkham game with a few new mechanics. Its faster, more responsive and deeper than I initially thought it was going to be.

The coolest thing so far is how Rocksteady just took the extra time to add these little touches to make Batman feel more...well BATMAN. (if that makes sense without spoiling shit)

And the batmobile is freaking awesome. I spent quiet a bit just seeing how many different ways I can call it in. So good!!

EDIT: Also, WOW does it look and run good on consoles!

This is getting me super excited to see some PC footage. Looking this good and running at 60fps is a Batman fan's wet dream come true.

Assuming you played the PS4 version? Don't suppose you got a chance to check out the XB1 version?

Thanks.
Now I'm crying because I don't have it yet.

If PS4 can we shareplay later :'(

Probably because of this

And this

is probably possible because you can launch out of the Batmobile onto someone's car

Gonna pre order the game..On the PS4 of course, Best Buy offers the WayneTech booster pack but with amazon that is not offered..with amazon you get:
Pre-order Batman: Arkham Knight to play as Harley Quinn and receive the 1st appearance batman skin pack. Utilize her unique weapons, gadgets, and abilities. Also, contains 4 Exclusive Challenge Maps.
and the scarecrow mission of course, so which site is better to order from?

Yeah, if it's already a relatively stable 30FPS on PS4 I'm fully expecting a solidish 60FPS at the same settings on my OC'd 970 even with most of the Physx stuff, well if they're using a recent version of Physx anyway.

I understand why, the game is huge with areas where gliding wouldn't work but the Batmobile has to be a faster, at least in a mostly straight line mode of transportation. The problem is making it worthwhile and not forced beyond those instances where for example it's pulling down walls and whatever or jumping the bridges to reach the other areas. Beyond that it should be something you may not need to use to get through a situation but the option of doing so can help make things easier along with changing things up.

I'm rocking a GTX 980. I missed the TI just by a month. :*(

I think the 980 will be fine. More concerned about my CPU/MOBO which is starting to be dated. It was able to play Witcher 3 with EVERYTHING Ultra (including Hair Works), and it was 55-60. Without Hair and foilage distance tweaked, it was over 65-70 fps. Each game is different though. I have a feeling I am getting bottlenecked. I just hope Arkham is smooth sailing. It makes me happy to hear the PS4 edition is locked/smooth.

That's a bummer. I actually bought a 980 for Witcher 3 knowing I'd be able to upgrade it via EVGA Step-up program. The 980 is an amazing card. I couldn't have asked for better performance in Witcher 3.

It was kinda cool how it all worked out. I bought a 980 off of Amazon for $560. They announced the 980 Ti two days later as well as a price drop on Amazon. I que'd the step-up and then asked amazon to refund me the difference because of the price drop. So all in all if you count the fact that I got Witcher 3 and AK for free(which I do) I only payed around $450~ for a 980 Ti. I essentially got a 2 games($120 Value) plus a $40 discount on a 980 Ti. I can't complain. So excited to see how it performs.

I'd be surprised though if the 980/970 can't max this at 1080p60.

What's your CPU/Mobo?

It really sounds like that's the case for the most part, beyond the combat focused moments. Other than that, it's just another gadget — you can call the car to wherever you are, so it's always handy for pulling down walls, taking out turrets, etc.

So, after these very positive reviews, I have a hard decision to make: do I continue playing witcher 3 (played 50 hours, but still have at least as much to go), or do I temporary pause that play through to complete this first. I already have it pre-ordered, but I am loving the witcher 3. On the other hand, arkham city and asylum where my GOTY in their respected years. What to do?

I am stuck with this same dilemma. Life can be so hard sometimes....

I'm gonna wait till I get my hands on it before I put that stamp on the game, but it definitely gives Witcher 3/AC Unity a run for it's money.
It's just insane how gorgeous it is. It's just consistently blown me away how good the game looked every time they showed it.

This post could just be titled "Video-gaming as an adult."

Is this PS4 code? Looks incredible.

What version is that? Because laaawd that looks amazing

What version is this from?

Looks great but that has to be more than 30 FPS right - PC version?

That is pure eye candy. PS4 version?

That's PS4? If so then holy shit.

Yup. PS4 version. Apart from the first reveal and "cinematic" trailers all gameplay been the PS4 version

Holy crap.

Do we have times for Steam pre-load/unlock yet?

I feel that pain :(

They outsourced it? I thought it was the lead platform since it was demoed on PC early on wasn't it?

There's an Iron Galaxy logo on the back of PC retail copies but it's absent from the console versions. There's no mention of this anywhere else; websites, articles, etc. Who knows though, maybe it'll be a good port.

It's great that on PS4 we are actually gonna get a complete game without the needing to wait for patches for once.

Now, can you please patch out the Batmobile Rocksteady?
Such a shame it hurt such a great job by them, without it this game could match Arkham City's MC :(

Nvidia has been showing of PC footage recently, but for the most part it looks pretty similar bar some higher res quality textures and of course the crazy physics stuff.

No offense, but you haven't played the game yet. Not sure why you are so negative about the batmobile. Please play and then form your opinion. You might end up loving it

Yeah I ignored mentioning those videos as they were too obviously PC. Would be interesting to see DF comparisons between PC and console. All the nvidia trailers so far have shown physics effects and nothing more. Would be interesting to see differences in lighting/textures/AO/LOD etc as the PS4 version already looks REALLY good.

It's possible they helped as opposed to doing the full port, didn't they help out on Arkham Origins as well?

Damn that gif reminds me of The Samaritan tech demo visually, are we actually gonna have visuals close to that demo in a full open world game? it looks incredible.

Hell I haven't even seen console pop-in which is just mind blowing. Rocksteady have cemented themselves even further as the go to superhero dev.
