Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

I don't recall who babyface is. I'll have to look it up.

Gah those gifs are positively pornographic.... we need some more.

Having watched a video review though, I'll agree that many of the driving scenes look crappy. Just wheeling around in the city is awesome but the whole underground obstacle course sections look dumb and like they undermine the series' (usually) plausible level design.

Of course they were told to say that crap. lol.

But I will tell you personally, I am loving the batmobile. There is so much cool stuff you can do with it.
This is good news. What were your thoughts on the other Arkham games, just as a frame of reference?

Metascore is sitting at 91 with 16 reviews. Still a whole lot to come I'm assuming (Witcher 3 has 74 critics for reference). What are the chances it can reach 95 before it settles? Taking over AC's score is likely not happening :(

Have yet to play any of the Batman games, but got this free with my GTX970. Glad to see the positive reviews. Looking forward to playing it now.

Yeah, like how disarm and destroy in AC was a new move.

Yes, there are a bunch of new moves. Don't want to spoil anything really so be warned.

Combat batclaw takedown

Charged batarang attack

Weapon pickups

A variety of different stealth takedowns now. Pretty much all the "loud" moves in previous games, now have a silent option

smoke can now be used in combat and you can also shoot small amounts of explosion gel at enemies in combat and detonate

counters now have two variations, the basic counter and also if you counter and push the stick in the direction of the attacker you will do a more brutal counter attack

In a nutshell the great combat and stealth is still there, but they made it even deeper for players who really mastered it in previous games.

The fact that batman run at a consistent framerate makes it a better achievement. How can The Witcher 3 be impressive when it's running at 20 FPS on the same hardware?

Witcher 3 is basically the only open-world game right now that is doing a shit load of brute force rendering techniques. It's expected that GPUs will struggle in the areas that have overlapping alpha sprites (where you really can't cull geometry and shading) simulated by fog, and grass along with SSR reflection for water. Sure they can try to improve the performance, but we have to give CDPR credit. W3 is very very complex.

In short. Loved AA and AC. Really like AO for the story. AC is my favorite all around. (Still playing through AK)

It's more likely to go down than it is up. The normal trend for limited reviews in the beginning is for the score to go down rather than up. Review embargos have stipulations about scoring -- for instance, if your review is 8.5 or more, you can publish your score on X date, if it's lower, you can post it on Y. Certain sites aren't willing to accept stipulations like this (Gamespot is one) so there you have lower scores leaking. Weird, I know, but true. Whether or not that's what's happening here remains to be seen.

On the one hand, I feel vindicated in my skepticism. On the other hand, I wish the batmobile didn't suck so much. I knew it would...I just hope the Riddler challenges aren't overbearing.

That's interesting. Although from what I've seen, other sites like Forbes didn't even receive review copies yet and they are mostly excited about playing it, which is strange. Either WB really doesn't want spoilers getting out till the last minute or the major sites were given favor.

Hopefully they don't bash the game cause of that lol.

Why the fuk doesnt Sony give us the option to preload much earlier. Xbox bros have had it preloaded a month already and we're only given 2 days at the most? That's absolutely retarded.

My internet and Sony's crappy download speed, I think I'll need at least a 4 day preload to get 48 gigs done. Why cant they announce a preload date either.

Source? That doesn't seem legit.

I knew it was going to suck. Oh well. Still playing it. I'm sure the rest of the game more than makes up for it.

We were right the whole time. That validation.

Should've given Bats a jetpack instead.

I honestly can't even tell if he's trolling half the time.

Spring, breh, pick a side. I don't know where to place you anymore.

Rocksteady destroyed the game. Enjoy your Batmobile: Arkham Knightmobile, brehs.

What the hell? Is that legal?

Uh what? So the reviewers have finished and assigned a score for a game like a week before it comes out? And then they turn that into the publisher? I highly doubt that's the way it works. Why would a publisher let a review out that was going to be less than ideal if this was the case? They could just keep track of those websites and deny them a review copy.

EDIT: The more I think about this, the less sense it makes. Gonna need receipts.

In general, the more scores that come in, the lower the average will be.

Wait.. what? I'm never heard of anything like that. Doing a google search only brings up something about Halo 4 that ended up being a hoax.

This is hilarious to read knowing that Gamespot is the one site I know of that has been proven to willingly adjust a review score for incentives (K&L debacle) and yet you seem certain they are one of the few that don't.

I am expecting in like 2 years to hear about some ousted person at Rocksteady or WB that really pushed for the Batmobile sort of like how it broke about how behind the scenes of Firefall crashing and burning because of things like pursuing Esports and that ridiculous bus being attributed to a lone person with power.

Honestly I assume the batmobile's purpose was to differentiate this game a bit. Arkham Origin's was getting flak for not being ambitious or different enough from prior games, there's only so much that can be done with the Batman formula.
