Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

Honestly I assume the batmobile's purpose was to differentiate this game a bit. Arkham Origin's was getting flak for not being ambitious or different enough from prior games, there's only so much that can be done with the Batman formula.

I'm really happy they tried to push the game in a new direction while improving the original formula.

Its just disappointing that their new direction doesn't seem to be very good.

Why the fuk doesnt Sony give us the option to preload much earlier. Xbox bros have had it preloaded a month already and we're only given 2 days at the most? That's absolutely retarded.

My internet and Sony's crappy download speed, I think I'll need at least a 4 day preload to get 48 gigs done. Why cant they announce a preload date either.

Yeah I don't understand what the hell the hold up is. This game is marketed by Sony yet Xbox has had the preload up for weeks and we are just sitting here waiting. Wouldn't surprise me if we had to wait until Monday.

what....is....happening

Batmobile looks badass to me, haven't given up hope yet

No hope. Only the Batmobile.

Ah shit, that IGN review might've swayed me from my previous stance of "Wait for the GOTY Edition"

If I went to Gamestop and preordered this, like, tomorrow, would I still be eligible for the Harley Quinn and Red Hood content?

They set out to make the "ultimate Batman experience" (I think it even says that on the box-art) and the Batmobile is essential to that. The implementation of it though seems to be lacking based on the reviews, but they've done so much with it that I feel I won't be disappointed.

The whole complaint of "tedious combat" sections is subjective anyways and they've shown ways to be more effective in taking out drones (1-hit kill on weak points, missile barrage, stunning them, uploading virus to make them allies, etc.). Makes me wonder if they took advantage of it..

It's more likely to go down than it is up. The normal trend for limited reviews in the beginning is for the score to go down rather than up. Review embargos have stipulations about scoring -- for instance, if your review is 8.5 or more, you can publish your score on X date, if it's lower, you can post it on Y. Certain sites aren't willing to accept stipulations like this (Gamespot is one) so there you have lower scores leaking. Weird, I know, but true. Whether or not that's what's happening here remains to be seen.
It wouldn't be a review thread without conspiracies.

Jesus, in what world is one 7 and an abundance of 9's a bad thing? The discussion about riddler trophies and the implementation of the batmobile got way too crazy. Sounds like batmobile combat is the part every reviewer seems to not enjoy.

Chill Neogaf. Chill.

This is hilarious to read knowing that Gamespot is the one site I know of that has been proven to willingly adjust a review score for incentives (K&L debacle) and yet you seem certain they are one of the few that don't.

That was almost eight years ago and I'm pretty sure the people responsible for that mess are no longer there while Jeff Gerstmann has been back for a while as editorial director after CBSi bought Giant Bomb.

Was the big spoiler from the IGN review that
Mark Hamill returned to do some voice work
? I wish they didn't mention that, but it wasn't a huge deal to me. If they mentioned anything else very spoilery I definitely glossed over it.

So I'm getting the sense from the reviews that the story is nothing to write home about.

I look forward to seeing for myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if Martin Lancaster and co. didn't achieve anything compelling. Still even the prospect of a mediocre story somewhat excites me, it's weird.

If the story is actually WORSE than Arkham City?

....yeah, I'm in NO hurry to play this anytime soon.

You guys are too spoiler sensitive. I had to watch the IGN review again to see what spoilers you were complaining about. IMO really minor stuff.

Just watched Gamespot's review. So another empty and deserted city with no civilians again?

Meh, I'll pass. The terrible open world of Arkham City caused me to lose interest in that game too quickly.

Oh it happens for every game if 19 reviews were 10 and 1 was 9.9, you'd be reading the same posts just with different scores.

I assumed this was pretty much par for the course for a Neogaf review thread. If I recall, most of the Last of Us review thread discussion was focused on the Polygon 7.5 (and perhaps to a lesser extent Gamespot's 8) and Uncharted 3's controversy with Eurogamer giving it a 8. Those are maybe 2 of the more prominent examples.

Ordered some new headphones (Audio Technica ATH-AD500X) and a cheap mic off Amazon last Sunday to replace the Turtle Beach P11 headset that I've been using for the last couple years with my PS3 and PC. Really wishing I acted a couple days sooner when still had an active Prime subscription because I didn't realize just how excruciatingly slow Amazon would be with their regular free shipping. Like okay, knew it'd be slower but I didn't count on Amazon taking five days to ship it. >_< It's about 200 miles away now so hopefully Fedex Smartpost and USPS can cover that distance by Tuesday though Amazon is saying Wednesday (last day of their delivery date estimate) and Fedex is saying Thursday. I seem to remember Amazon being a lot better about this, NewEgg certainly is even with Smartpost though they probably didn't move items to the same warehouse before shipping like I imagine Amazon did.

I'm pretty sure it's always the lowest, most negative reviews that get the most talk ever since people discussed game reviews online.
