Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

All my 360 games were on an old disused account. I dusted it off, added it to my Xbone and hey presto, they all (be ones obviously) appeared under my current account too. Magic! No need to switch accounts!
Don't you work at 343? You know when more games coming :P

How I use dashbord guide in game 360 on xbo.
Thank you

Man, Super Meat Boy is amazing on X1's D-pad. I thought the game was just 'okay' before but it's really great now.

Also, I just realized you can hit "Manage Storage" on the guide to see which games you have cloud saves for.

Only supported titles have images.

And having DVR available is such an underrated feature. I may never play a supported BC title on my original 360 again.

I can't believe there is an opportunity for awesome online multiplayer games such as shadowrun, mw2, and condemned 2 to get their communities rejuvenated. This is what excites me the most.

Who are you kidding? There's a perfectly good 360 system that can do it, but those games are still dead.

This is a huge thread and I don't want to go through all 94 pages to find it, but I recall seeing someone say you could download games even if you weren't in the preview by friending someone who is.

I added Major Nelson and I don't see Mass Effect available to download, which I own the disc copy of. I also have Perfect Dark and Geo Wars from the Arcade. Do I have to have a digital copy for this workaround to work? Did Microsoft close the loophole? Any info would be appreciated. I'm guessing I'm missing a step!

Thanks!

Has to be digital.

Found a video of the AC-130 gun hack.

This is a JTAG mod meaning you need a modified console and a way to connect to Xbox Live with a modified console (which is kind of hard without paying a lot of money) to do this. Also you would need to pull host to do this in a public lobby. Trust me if you see this happen in a public lobby it is a very rare occurrence. The most you'll see is maybe the speed hack that makes you run really fast because you can do that without a modified console.

Ah OK thanks. I have Perfect Dark digital and a twitter feed photo of his shows him downloading it. Does it just take time for it to show for me to download or do I have to do something to trigger it?

If you aren't in the preview and you own that supported game digitally you can browse to the game in another user's games list if they've played it and download it through there. It seems shoddy for people though whether it works or not. Better to either wait for the full launch or get into the preview program if you're willing to deal with bugs.

Got fully accepted into Xbox Preview program, and now installing my disc version of PDZ!

Weird, I thought I would need to do a system update for this to work. But maybe that system update happened when I wasn't home.

Posted this in another thread but thought you guys would like to know this.

Xbox 360 preview members just got an update shoved out that allows you to see what their Xbox One friends are playing. Not sure if this is implemented in the 360 emulator yet but it's on my real 360 console. Hope I'll have an Xbox One later this year.

Wow, that's actually pretty cool. Was really annoying to just see "Xbox One".

Huh, just got that update earlier and I didn't notice that, nice.

And I just checked, the virtual 360 still only displays "Xbox One" under friend statuses.

By the way, was it said that the entirety of the virtual 360 was packaged with each game, or just the emulation code itself? I would imagine it would be the latter, with v360 being included it in the most recent beta of the X1 OS, but I've heard it said here that it was the prior. It certainly would be interesting if they had to update all BC 360 games anytime they needed to update the v360.

So does nuts and bolts not work? I see it in the list but when I put the disc in it says it's not one of the 360 games that are compatible.

Awesome, Microsoft software engineers are on point

I've just checked on my xbox one and my friend list no longer shows the 360 games in the played by friends section anymore. Looks like they may have closed the loop on this trick after reddit and kotaku found out.

EA has already given support
Bethesda has already given support
Ubisoft has already given support
Take2 games has already given support
Namco has already given support
Sega has already given support
Tecmo has already given support

Now need

Activision
Capcom
Konami
Square
WB

And a bunch of smaller ones

Question still remains on how selective the publishers will be, too.

Eehhhh I dunno about that.

Like if EA really was on board, Mass Effect 3 would be there right now instead of Mass Effect 1. There are so many questionable things with that current list that I doubt there is full support especially when these publishers will want to utilize these for HD remasters.

Seeing as how certain online components aren't working right (PD's co-op for example) I imagine ME1 is safer as a test since there's no direct interaction with the rest of the 360 playerbase. And money is involved with the f2p style.

MS started with First-Party games, to get everything running, thats why ME1 is there.
I also read an interview posted on the Verge, where they said that so far no publisher said no.

As of right now, It defo wouldn't be available.

Spencer said that they are still working on how to deal with multiple disc games, as (other than I believe the Witcher 2), no multi games are available to download on Xbox Live.

All the games currently in preview were either first party or Microsoft published and are avaibale either as download only or both disc and download

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-vs-backwards-compatibility-on-xbox-one

Digital Foundry analyzes backward compatibility

i have to say i'm surprised Mass Effect can go as low as 16 fps on Xbox One, while on 360 the same scene is at 22 fps.

It's a mixed bag really.

As it stands, during both exploration and combat sequences, the game runs upwards of 30 per cent slower on Xbox One with a deviation ranging between 5-10fps at any random point. What was already a sluggish experience on original hardware becomes nearly unplayable at points on Xbox One

You can earn achievements while playing yeah?

If so I really hope New Vegas gets supported before Fallout 4 launches as I missed it and would love to play it on XB1.

Thanks for pointing this article out.
Man, that hurts. Just as I was extolling the virtues of Xbox One's (supposed) load time and pop-in improvements to a buddy, too.

You realize this is still not public right and in testing still? Let's not brush everything with a broad stroke because of some games not performing as intended yet.

Will be interesting to see how this developers once the WIndows 10 part of Xbox One kicks in. Win 10 has some good performance upgrades, so hopefully that translates to performance for the 360 game stuff.

That's a good point.
And in reading the article, Digital Foundry makes that point, too. Lots of chances for improvement in the months ahead.

.....Has anyone asked the Xbox team if original Xbox (KotOR, Shenmue 2) compatibility is possible - both technologically & fiscally? (i.e. is it straightforward enough that they could devote a team to accomplish the feat while not costing too much to make it worth the effort?)
