$47 million to create Shenmue 1 and 2, create all the orchestral music for both games, create the graphics engine from scratch, for all the R&D including traveling, to write up the stories, to pay for all the localisation including english and Japanese voice acting, to do the marketing too. Yup, that sounds right to me and now they can cut down 3/4 of the cost for Shenmue III as most of the stuff such as tools and assets are already available and Sony will cover the marketing. So it makes sense for this game to be funding around $10 - 15 million to get the Shenmue we really want.

Absolutely, I'd take a Shenmue 1 size map that's dense and detailed with interesting fleshed out characters over a bigger map thats sparse in comparison.
equivalent to $67 million in 2015
This was 15-16 years ago. I dunno man I just dunno
Not sure if it was posted, but it's quite interesting to hear it from Sony (and Yu Suzuki crying back stage? omg) ... T_T:

But to have physical copies, Sony needs to promise that?

That's a really great video. Adam Boyes seems like a genuinely awesome guy.

The tiers seem bad and not some cool stuff. People need to learn how to run a Kickstarter by having it exactly like Bloodstained. This campaign really needs PS4 physical copies, and it would help tremendously.

Do we want this money to go to the game, or to go to trinkets for the backers?
Can you make an open world game for just $2 million?
No, we cannot make an open world game for $2 million. Shenmue will be produced using both the funds raised from the Kickstarter and through other funding sources already secured by Ys Net Inc. We are very sorry, but due to contractual obligations, details of outside investments will not be disclosed.
Not sure. But Bloodstained did have physical retail copies so I don't understand why Shenmue 3 can't.

I'll be happy with the $5 million goal being reached, because 10 seems absurdly pie in the, sky never gonna happen. I don't see the Kickstarter passing 6.

I've just tweeted it too. Every little helps, right?

Bloodstained did a little more than $5.5 million, I would have figured this would easily go pass $6 million in comparison.
Depends on the Shenmue team's campaign, SONY PR, and how much they adjust the kickstarter page. If they get everything right with Sony's support then I'm guarantee that the funding will go beyond $16 million, but if it sticks to as is then it will be $5.5 - 6 million.
it's a nice damn jacketI mean, I'll be happy to be wrong about it, and the 3k jacket tier seemed to create a nice bump, I'm just thinking that the majority of people who care have probably donated already. At this point, I'd be happy with a game that took place on a scale of the first game (though obviously disappointing compared to what it could be). If we get something like the second game, two large areas with an epilogue chapter, that would be amazing.

Just curious, besides lending prime spot for yu suzuki in their prime time conference, what other Sony PR do you expect sony to unleash?
I think the word "expect" is the wrong word to use, but Sony has "many" channels that they can utilise that doesn't involve a stage. For example, their youtube channel that has a silly amount of subscribers and viewers, their own PS4 channel, their website, newsletter, I can go on... In the end, it is down to Sony to be bothered to make use of them for Shenmue III or not.
$10 million???? That's impossible.
The negativity campaign by the likes of Polygon angers me but this thread makes me feel better about the dedication you all have.
Seriously, WTF is with everyone without all the facts, and it's damaging to the Kickstarter.
Shenmue fans have been crapped on for years in terms of hope and now it's like, "Look happy Shenmue fans! Let's take a fat dump in their mouths!"
I'm still waiting for a physical PS4 release.
If not announced I will get the 60$/100$ tier at the very least, close to the end of the campaign. I bet (hope) there are plenty of people thinking like me.

it's been 15 years and i've just seen a cutscene in shenmue i've never seen before
the game that keeps on giving
I'd really love to back this but the shady nature of the funding/kickstarter has put me off of it entirely.

There is nothing shady about it.
