PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Authorities say seven people were shot Saturday night in West Philadelphia.
This happened just before 10 p.m. on the 4100 block of Ogden Street in the Mantua section of the city.
Authorities say two children — ages two and ten, and five adults — ages 15-25 — were shot during a block party. The two-year-old was shot in the neck.
Both children were taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the adults to Presbyterian Hospital. All of them are in critical condition.
At least one shotgun was used by an unknown number of shooters, according to authorities.
An investigation continues.

A gunman toting a shotgun opened fire on a block party along a West Philadelphia street Saturday night, injuring seven people, including a 2-year-old and 10-year-old.
The gunfire rang out around 10 p.m. along the 4100 block of Ogden Street as the gunman turned a corner onto the street and began firing on the picnic, said Philadelphia Police.

It's fucking disgusting that we keep letting this happen. Everyday we dance around the issue of gun control, more blood is on the hands of every one of us.

He was mentally ill?

Was he black?! Then the thug was nothing but scum of the earth!

Wait maybe he could have been white....he might have been on drugs! A lone wolf!

......................

Tax the poor more!

It's too the point where my brain can't process this kind of news anymore. It's like when you have too much vitamin C and your body just passes it through. Christ, we should just make a "horrible gun-related violence in America" thread, like the ISIS one, so we don't have to see these awful thread titles anymore.

Sounds like a couple if guys were up to no good.

Best luck to the victims.

Goddammit. Yo holmes, to Bel Air!

Kids?

A fucking shotgun?

But hey if they all had guns then they would have survived.

America needs to take a long hard look at itself. Until it can admit that guns should not be in the possesion of civilians then nothing will ever change.

Yeah, im through with block parties around here. Some kid danced with someone elses girlfriend and then the boyfriend shows up, shoots the guy and his uncle. Dumb shit.

Wow what dumb fuckery. What did the boyfriend think would happen afterwards? Happily ever after?

Shouldn't we? Take their guns that is.

Outright gun bans will never work. America is too far gone. Best we can hope for is stricter gun laws and background checks. Maybe new laws that hold people accountable for not maintaining control of access to their weapons if they are used in crimes by someone other than the owner. But even that is near impossible. People lost their shit over bans on magazines that held more than 30 rounds.

People have been hoarding since he has entered office.

Yeah I don't understand why that is. Where did the Obama's trying to take your guns come from? Fox news rhetoric? Because he's done a terrible job so far.

I feel like this happens every week and I just don`t get it. What is the upside of having an armed population? Is it to fight off the government when they turn against you? Because that happened a long time ago.

Only one victim in unkown condition, rest is stable with apparently minor injuries. Really lucky when you think of a shotgun. :/

Unless rates really plummeted in the past year in Israel and France, I wonder what he meant. The Japan data is the only one near.

15 yo adults? How old is 15 really?

Hope all of them pull through.

Probably the article was in construction, if you click the links you'll see one says it's adults from 22 to 46 and the other ages unknown.

The first gun I ever called "mine" was a 12 gauge bolt-action shotgun given to me by my grandfather. He mail-ordered it out of the Sears-Roebuck catalog when he was 14 years old and it was delivered to his front door. That gun has never harmed anything but quail, squirrel, and rabbits. Every other gun I've ever owned has never done anything but punch holes in paper targets, soda cans, etc. You probably don't want to hear it and you might throw some statistics around to refute it, but the truth is that owning guns doesn't make a person a killer. The type of person with the dead heart it takes to commit crimes such as in the OP will always be able to obtain a gun if they want one. Even if you were able to pass a blanket ban on all types of firearms in the USA, there'll be hundreds of millions of them still on the street after those who follow the law surrender theirs (there won't be many who do). Any attempt at forceful confiscation will turn into a bloody clusterfuck, and you'll be giving rise to a black market with accompanying violence to make prohibition look like a day at the beach. The guns aren't going anywhere, so probably better to start looking at changing the people. Outside of organized crime stuff, this shit wasn't happening in civilian life 80-100 years ago, and they sure as hell all had guns too.

I think we should start with abolishing all prohibitions on recreational drugs, i.e. "the war on drugs." All it does is keep a huge criminal industry funded and competitive.

Pretty much the way I look at it.

You can illegally obtain guns in Australia too, yet gun crime is still very low.

Different situation of course seeing how widely distributed guns are already in America. Just seemed sad that it turned into such a situation.

That is possible in all other countries as well, but look how many guns are actually "around". Stricter gun control doesn't mean it's impossible to get one, it just makes it harder and easier to track.
"Opportunity makes thieves." and just like that it's with murder / manslaughter when guns are around. In the heat of a moment, lose your temper, have beef, in a pinch and need money etc guns make everything more dangerous.

It would also solve your trigger happy police problem - at least in the long run.

As for the legalization for weed. That is coming in the imminent future. Rightfully so.

edit:
Terrible news. 7 kids / teens. =/

I'd imagine many Americans believed that when Obama took office he was going to do crazy things to make up for slavery.

In Canada you can get some guns legally yet we still dont have the same level of problem the US has
