Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

Well the framerate issues are few and far between in my testing and that it is "nearly unplayable" is completely a matter of opinion. I disagree, I've found Mass Effect very playable so far, going to be arriving at Noveria. That said, this is still in early preview: a beta. People need to chill out - almost everything else works great so far, not to mention that there are framerate issues with this title has been noted in the forums since launch of the feature. That's why, as part of the preview program there is an app where you can specifically rate and mention problems as you find them built right into the feedback app and also on the preview forums section for BC.

Seriously this. Just finished the battle in the club after getting Wrex against about 7 enemies. Obvious frame rate fluctuation but definitely still very playable. Has been a pretty good experience so far with the only problem is decryption. Occaisional issues detecting the button presses.

I really hope we don't have to wait too long for the next batch of games. I hate being selfish like that but this feature is great.

Yeah, for me, the only time the 'framerate' had been unplayable was when fighting the Thorian.

Other than that I'm not finding any issues really

Assuming that 2 disc games like Mass Effect 2 get the bc treatment is there any chance they'll get digital releases despite never being part of Games in Demand or is it time to stock up on some second hand discs?

Worth noting if you were an original xbox 360 and owned Hexic since launch you may not have it tied to your account, meaning you will have to actually download/purchase the game.

Noticed it was missing from my list, since I've always had it on 360 I've never actually tied it, via purchase, to my account, so it didn't appear. Once I purchased for free it appeared.

Even if not, it's a free XBLA game you can play straight away on Xbox One.

Thanks will try that.

I say there a chance Microsoft release a new store front of some kind for games on demand digital games. Hard to say about multi disc though our about titles that never saw a digital release. I would personally buy the disc versions if you can find them cheap. I'm guessing how it will work is you will use Disc 1 of mass effect 2 to authenticate, and then it will download the full mass effect 2 game repackaged as one download from the live servers to play, but that's just a guess. Then again, it might be worth waiting as EA seemed interested in putting 360 titles in the vault - I bet you'll see some crazy sales once this feature launches to the public as well.

All BC games are digital (downloaded), even for physical games, XBO download the digital version instead of installing from the disk. So I expect ME2 to also have a digital version.

not at home at this moment, but can anyone confirm Shadow Complex works now? I've been told MS have added the rumoured next batch of games to the BC list

I imagine MS putting all the BC compatible titles on the store because it is really really logical to do so, and no devs will say no to more money since all they need to do is giving MS the nod.

Not sure of it was brought up before but it'll be interesting how publishers handle the backwards compatibility feature now. Seeing as how Bethesda and Ubisoft are including previous games with new releases it could be cool. Imagine Gears 4 comes with Gears 1-3 digital downloads with a special edition or something. We'll see if more games take advantage of this in Fall aside from Fallout and Rainbow Six.

I hope it doesn't take that long to get gears. I need it like yesterday

Man, I like Hexic HD. When I pulled it up on the XB1, it actually had my old data from an in-progress Marathon mode game on 360. I hit a new high score last night and got to third place among my friends.

Call of Duty B1-2 free with B3.

Would be killer deal.

I mean offer them for free. They could be added to playable games now, but given for free with gears 4. You still have to own these games to play right.

I'd like to see a revamp of the Games with Gold. They could really learn from Sony and do an "Instant Game Collection" thing with their first party titles at least.

I wonder what the chances are of a Splinter Cell HD remake? I was just thinking about the original and how much I loved it so I looked to google. The PS3 remake never made it to 360 because of the DVD limitations (I wasn't aware of this till now) but it would be cool if it was released as a digital title. I'd pay full price for it.

Would be nice to see a Ubi thing like the RARE collection. I guess many will be on the BC for Xbox One which is awesome but I dunno if Ubi will stretch to doing something with such value.

While probably not feasible, it would be cool if there was was a way to "wall off" Xbox One players if this were to happen.

I don't play previous gen COD anymore with all the hacking, so it would be nice to play those games with only mod/hack free Xbox Ones. I recently tried WAW on the PS3 and it was full of hacking which is too bad as I really liked that game.

I'm just downloading Hexic HD and its saying 623.1 mb on my xb1, on the store it says 55mb, Is this anything to to with emulation or just a mistake of saying its 55 mb ? I was surprised it was 55 mb. Are any other games bigger than the original size 360 versions ?

It's the emulation wrapper.

Well right now in Preview you can only play with other people in the Preview Program online. Can't play with 360 players until launch. I could see an option for either at launch tbh

All 360 games on xbox one are going to be 500MB+ larger in size due to how they are packaged with emulation and 360 OS files.

I think more games will be added to the BC list on Tuesday.

I'm pretty sure they will add the next games one week after their E3 showcase.

"Last week at E3 we announced backward compatibility and this week preview members will be able to play the next bunch of 360 games on their Xbox Ones."

Fingers crossed

Wasn't a second set of games supposed to have been released? Halo Reach never showed in my list.

lol, a nice surprise then.

No. The poster just pulled something from some random site that just sorta noted what other games were on the list and said they should be coming that night.

I do expect a weekly update for titles, so at some point this week we should end up with more.

I don't think they've committed to releasing any more titles until the preview ends but they have to for practical reasons. Rare Replay comes out in August and includes some 360 games that are not currently working

Yeah if it's as easy as it sounds to port over, we shouldn't need to wait too long inbetween new titles being added. A few games each week would be excellent.

That would be a bad move on MS part leaving BC limited to only 20 games before release. I don't see that happening at all. I wouldn't be surprised if even after this feature is released to the public, any newly added games are only for preview members or a short time to check for bugs etc that they may have missed.

Oh I don't think it's a good idea just that I don't think Microsoft has said otherwise anywhere.

With how they have game specific feedback in the Preview app, it seems like they'll roll games out in small groups so they can get feedback on performance of each title and pull anything that has some really big issues.

It just doesn't make any sense to release BC for us but only have 20 games until it's officially released, if they were going to do that they'd have been better off waiting a few month before letting us test it. I think they are doing it this way on purpose, they can add a constant flow of games to BC and it gives them easy PR and keeps BC being talked about for months going into the holidays helping it spread via word of mouth.

While you are right I don't think they have said anything about adding new games in preview, it would be silly of them not to. Also as said above, it allows them to pull games out if there's anything wrong with them and fix it, like they have done with Banjo Nuts & Bolts already.

We will 100% be getting Fallout 3 and R6 Vegas 1/2 in the preview soon I reckon, they will want to test the hell out of them before they give away tokens with Siege and FO4 later this year
