Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

Love how the power armor is like a mech now.

I really do love this.

I partly hope the game encourages the user to make use of power armor in very dire situations. Maybe even have some enemies that are damn near indestructible without it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they should restrict it's uses, but something just feels right about this approach and what they are implying with it. I mean, it is a big hunk of steel like a human tank. The practicality of slipping that thing on and being in it all the time just doesn't seem right. It seems like it should be less easy to use than the previous games but WAYYYYY more strong and powerful.

Even if power armor is just as versatile in 4 as the previous ones, I love the sense of heft they introduced for it. The weighted feel and that crushing animation it makes when your character hits the ground (see the Microsoft conference gameplay).

Bought fallout 3 and New Vegas in preparation for 4. Hope this is a good place to ask this question.

In witcher 3 and mmo's I've gotten used to having a minimap and visualization in game on what npc's to talk to. I feel like it's a must in open world games. Fallout 3 has you toggling to the pit boy for a map and doesn't have anything to identity npc's except for names in the quest log and a pop up when you hover over each individual npc.

Does New Vegas improve this? How is it in practice? Maybe there won't be too many npc's in each hub. I've noticed in new Vegas the first npc I was supposed to talk to in the saloon triggered automatically.

Will 4 have what I want?

Thanks!

Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.

I'm gonna bet that the Power Armor now actually requires "Power," so you can only use it for a limited amount of time.

This video of the Codsworth animatronic at BE3 is freaking me out. Likely just a joke for the event, but his long ass speech about "freedom" is rather elaborate. I can't help but wonder if he will betray the player sometime during the events, considering how heavily this is supposed to focus on the rivalry of synths and humans.

That racing game? Car? Check. Track? Check. Just like every other racing game on the market.

Do you see why that sounds foolish?

It's foolish to assume that maybe the first-person combat is adequate? Or should I automatically hate something Bethesda has to offer because you guys say so?

For some reason I completely read your comment wrong. Never mind what I said, its still early for me. I apologize!!

Combat is more than just the representation of guns

AI, health pools, how characters reacts to being shot/hit, depth of combat

yknow, the things the latest bethesda games have kinda sucked at

No apologies needed. There was probably a bit of hyperbole in my comments anyway.

So, Bethesda can't rectify them? Yeah, you can judge current games on their predecessors but what good would that do. Best thing to do is remain cautious until we get some actual impressions. Not vilify them for design decisions they may or may not have learned from.

Don't know how I feel about non random crits, actually...

It was always nice that a thing like that is unexpected. The sound effect added more oomph to the moment and surprise...

Depends on how crits are used. If balanced right it could become an interesting resource rather than just some random occurrence. Hopefully it's something that even if you spec your character and take perks that help increase its recharge rate you're not able to fire off a crit every time, but rather it will maintain it's value and something you don't just fire off willy nilly.

Being in a tight spot, close to death with just one more enemy left and being able to trigger a crit to take him out and save yourself could be really nice.

As I listen to the Ink Spots, I wonder what other songs will feature in Fallout 4. More Sinatra? Crosby? Some Ellington? I'm guessing it's safe to say that Three Dog and Galaxy News Radio will be back. I'd like to see them bring in another DJ as well. Perhaps recruit a popular Boston DJ to do some VO.

I don't know if shitty licensing is the cause rather than stylistic choice, but Bethesda seemed to prefer 30's and 40's tracks. New Vegas dipped even into the 60's, and their stations were pretty awful.

New Vegas actually had a lot of "modern" songs meant to sound old from collections made specifically for movies and games.

So apparently Skills (Energy Weapons, Small Arms, Speech, Lockpicking, Science, etc) might not be coming back. I've seen a lot of speculation about it online, and it appears they might have incorporated the skills directly into perks and within the Special system.

That's pretty interesting, I'd say. It'll likely make characters more balanced now, given that it was very easy to beef up key areas of skills and become overpowered.

I'm not sure what kind of skill/perk system they'll have now (if you look at pictures skills aren't listed in pipboy at all and a few other clues that it's changed from a skill system), but they better damn well have a way to pass or fail speech checks in some sort of way cause that's some of my favorite thing to do in Fallout (Try to talk my way out of things or try to play peacemaker and use my charisma/speech to come up with a better option).

I'll be very disappointed if there's no way to customize your character in a way that he/she is very good at talking her/his way out of things or is totally horrible at it and is likely to fail

I mean judging from what I've seen of the game and what people have pointed out, that's my biggest fear for Fallout 4. Is that they got rid of that entirely (maybe be more like Witcher where you just gotta figure out the right choice. I don't want that honestly! I want there to be a chance for my character to fail a check if her/his charisma is not good enough or his/her intelligence isn't high enough to know what to say).

From what I've gathered, all the skills are very much present, they have just merged with SPECIAL like you said but also perks. As you can see in the demo with the gun customisation, repair is now a perk and a level 3 is required for pretty much everything. I don't know if this might be the cap but I also read somewhere that perk caps are at level 5.

My guess is that instead of levelling up and getting a handful of 15-20 so skill points you only get one perk point to upgrade your self. I'm not sure how I feel about this change but at least it sounds much more balanced.

I mean it sounds like they're going the Skyrim route with this game. I'm definitely fine with that.

After playing skyrim i'm really not ....

It sounded like a good idea on paper, but in the end every tree was flat damage/stat increases, half of the trees are completely useless, and there is absolutely no interesting synergy if not for a few that come from ... bugs.
It's boring and doesn't really allow you to build anything in between the three main archetypes which have barely anything going-on.

Yaeh, if they're throwing stats away for good, the perks need to be far, far more interesting than Skyrim's

I honestly can't say I like what I'm hearing at all, but I guess we'll see

I'm sure they'll do a better job with making the system feel more useful. I do agree that there were a number of skills that were kinda useless for any character type, I am however convinced it's the right way to go for F4. It was easily to overpower your character with the previous skill system, and I think now that SPECIAL system is far more important for character growth, it can lead to much more defined character growth.

Anyway, the radiation system has apparently been reworked too. Radiation poisoning will now sap your HP. As in it'll take chunks out of your health bar. Pretty similar to MGS3's injury system.

Yeah some of you have too much faith in Bethesda I think. Their RPG character systems have sucked shit for different reasons since at least the Morrowind days when I started playing their games. So I see no reason for them to change that time honoured tradition now.

Hmm, not sure I like that radiation system. Prefer Fallout 3's approach.

I'm definitely open to it. I can recall a lot of cases in F3 and NV where I had minor rad poisoning, and I didn't really do much about it. This way it'll be a constant and more present danger to you. I mean if you're radiation poisoning is taking up 25% of your health, then that'll make battles much more difficult.

I do hope there's more too it, though. Like your stamina and movement speed are affected as well.

MoF_MURAL1440px.jpg

This mural commemorates the many sacrifices of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

From Lexington and Concord to the shores of Iwo Jima, from the Sea of Tranquility to the Anchorage Front Line, Americans have fought and died through the ages to secure our nation’s freedom.

May their sacrifices remind us all that freedom is a privilege afforded to the many, yet hard won by a noble few.

Isn't it more like inverse Skyrim? Skyrim had skills with no stats. Bethesda knows that SPECIAL is pretty key to Fallout, so instead they've gone with stats but no skills.
