Bungie defends Destiny: The Taken King's £/$40 price tag (Eurogamer)

By my quick reckoning, if we take VAT off the UK price would be around £33.
The dollar rate for that would be around $52.

So even removing VAT from the equation we are still paying well over the odds.

In fact $40 converts to approximately £25. £25 with VAT added on is £30 which is considerably less than Activision/Bungie are clawing in.
So, yes, in the UK we are basically having this piss taken out of us with the pricing of this.

Meh, don't know. I choose to measure value in "time" I enjoy a game and not in amount of graphics/assets/enemy types or levels, and in this regard Destiny shines.

I simply like playing destiny.

500 hrs and counting.

This answer is a cop-out

The game could have had much more content than it did but you didn't have a choice. You thought the game was fun so you kept repeating the same thing over and over again. For me that is not a good value. You added that value to the game by spending so much time on it, Bungie didn't do that.

What I mean is if someone just played everything in the game once and didn't partake in the endless grind, the game doesn't have alot of content.

Nor does Pacman, Super Mario Bros etc etc. Designing a game that people enjoy playing again and again isn't some sort of luck or irrelevance.

Are you referring to the original Pacman and SMB? Because those games were sort of constrained by the hardware they came out on. Their newer iterations have more to do in them, and I'm sure if the older versions did as well, ppl who played them back then would've been overjoyed to get more out of them.

I agree with both Sword and Glam. I've enjoyed my time with Destiny, but there could've been so much more added value to this game.

Why do you get to say what he finds valuable or not? His answer isn't a cop out anymore than yours. He is saying he has enjoyed the time he has put into the game, and to him that is the value. You define value differently. Value is a pretty subjective, personal thing.

The game Bungie made, however lacking in content you see it to be, is being enjoyed by people for long periods of time. Why do you give a shit and what motive would you have for telling them they are wrong to value the experience they are enjoying?

Don't think of it as shaming, it's more of an intervention.

It's for their own good.

Have to disagree with you there.

What if you're one of the people that enjoy the game but are still pissed off by all the bullshit?

Oh that's fine. I'm not saying people shouldn't be mad/find this to be shitty (i don't have the game and I find this scummy). But I don't think it's really that great of a deal to say something along the lines of "your part of the problem" to people who aren't pissed off and find the situation fine, because they're purchasing more content for a game they like.

I have to ask, how many people in this thread are from the UK and bought the initial season pass? Wasn't that too priced at $35/£35? Why is it all of a sudden an issue when it was already like that before?

I and many others in this thread are from the UK. There's also many other people not on these forums from the UK, the amount is irrelevant to the issue at hand.

The original Season pass was £40 for both expansions iirc. You recieved 2 expansions for that price, therefore each expansion was £20.

This expansion, which is only 1, is £40. Straight off the bat those numbers don't sit right, £40 for 2 expansions or £40 quid for 1 expansion?

Then apparently 1:1 currency conversion is now a thing so whats the point in all the different currencies in the world?

To round all that off, a Bungie develpoer has the audicity to act like we should buy it or shut up, and that Europe/UK is 'foreign' to him so he doesn't give a shit, then, as the icing on the fucking cake, you have the Destiny CM Deej soothing the community with catchphrases like:

The Collector's Edition is mostly sold out, so the people who found that stuff valuable jumped at the chance. You'll likely see it sold on ebay for much more than what we're asking. But that's not the point. Right?

But hey, we are just acting entitled and should just accept that in Bungies world everyone is equal and all currencies are the same because they are ignorant to the very people they want to buy their games/merchandise.

Have you preordered ttk yet? I got 3 Voc in the mail when I preordered the CE.

Well I don't know about British pounds so my response would be the same.

When you are a director of a game, as popular as this, you have to know about money. UK it their third money market (first being $ and €) how in the world can't he know that ? And even so, the entire interview reads like " fuck you, you will buy it either way " the guy is just full of himself and that would be already bad enough if the questions he's answersing weren't valid concerns and interrogations about the price/content ratio especially considering the past extension have been VERY poor if not terrible content for the price.

But nope. He just brags and talk shit about the fans of his game without any respect.

I own Destiny on-disc but never put more than a few hours into it. Thinking about filling the wait til MGS5 with it after I finally finish Witcher 3... how much would all the expansions released so far cost?

Asking because looking at PSN might make little sense to me with "editions" and little offshoot DLC in the mix, that I might not be able to make heads or tails of until after buying the wrong thing. If there's a legit "pack" of everything significant, minus the base game, that would be great @ Bungie

Wait, so to get all of the content you'll have to rebuy the game you've already bought? And it's $80? What the fuck is this bullshit? I've been relistening to old episodes of 1up Yours and this is the type of garbage Luke Smith used to rage over. Sad.

Shall we rename Luke to Reek?

It doesn't excuse the issue, but all you people in the UK know you can just make a U.S account and get the game at dollar price, right?

And you can play that game on your main account once it's downloaded etc.

So wait a minute, lets get this straight.

I should:

- Make a US account
- Give Bungie more money as a punishment for me being pissed at their pricing.
- Lose all progress and start over again.

There's only one winner there.

I can see where you're coming from, I've done it in the past, however if you've already been loyal and bought the game and its DLC then you're SOL.

I want to see the following question put to Bungie:

"Do you feel comfotable with the value of your DLC, as such that it merits a price tag of $63."

If they answer yes, well why not raise the price of the US DLC by $23? They'd make a small fortune!

It's all about value is what i keep seeing/hearing after all.

See this is me, I really enjoy playing destiny. Sure the replaying of the same shit over and over is kinda lame on the 100th time. But game is still fun to get on once a week and play with friends.

Destiny, and more so Lukes recent remarks on the dlc is the issue I have and come Sep 15th my time with the game will be done. Luckily we have some good games coming out this year and next to take its place.

You can get the released expansions for $35 (Destiny Expansion Pass - contains The Dark Below and House of Wolves).

If you want to buy the 2 existing expansions plus the Taken King all together, the cheapest option is to pre-order the legendary edition of Taken King at $60 which includes the base game plus all 3 expansions, and comes out in September.

"When you're looking up the definition of the phrase 'taking the piss', you will now see Bungie's logo right next to it."

Will be in the Urban dictionary by the end of the night.

Taking the piss

Taking the piss is a Commonwealth term meaning to take liberties at the expense of others, or to be unreasonable. It is often used to mean (or confused with) taking the piss out of, which is an expression meaning to mock, tease, ridicule, or scoff.

[1] It is also not to be confused with "taking a piss", which refers to the act of urinating.

Taking the Mickey (Mickey Bliss, Cockney rhyming slang) or taking the Michael is another term for making fun of someone. These terms are most widely used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

[2] Can be shortened to a singular well known word. Bungie.

Still on the front page? Did the moral justice warriors right the wrongs yet or could we just accept this is video games now a days, it's an expensive hobby, and if bungie doesn't do it someone else will.

End of the day, we are going to spend money on what we like
Whether it be skins in halo or map packs in COD.

The loudest proponents are usually the people who don't play the game day in and day out.

go role-play on the forum somewhere else, your shtick is incredibly boring.

Welp. You heard the man. Time to pack it in folks. We'll have to save our pitchforks for later. Nothing to see here now.

He's kidding.

Oh god I hope so

What? Where did this come from? Saves are stored on the servers, and work across regions.

fuckyougivememoney.gif

Lol This.

No, fuck you Activision. Bungie...*sigh*...looks like jumping from MS to Activision was an interesting choice. On a personal note, Destiny is one of the only games for which I've ever demanded a full refund. With the paltry amount of content in the original release, grindy bullshit, zero narrative, no SP campaign to speak of, etc...the wonderful gunplay just couldn't save it for me.

As for whats going on with The Taken King...well, they should be releasing any & all DLC / expansions at much more reasonable prices (I remember feeling the first DLC should have been free to early adopters as a mea culpa). Instead of trying to be more gamer friendly to win over skeptics & those who felt burned by Destiny's original release, they're bending people over yet again. Requiring people to re-buy stuff to get exclusive content is spectacularly anti-consumer. But they have a trapped audience with MMO / addiction based dynamics so who gives a fuck? Give me money!

I know the core gameplay is fun enough for some people they'd defend this at twice the price. But for many others this kind of stuff is shameful & exploitative. I'm more than comfortable either never re-buying Destiny at all or, at most, buying the impending "Complete" version after its put on heavy discount for Black Friday if I ever feel like playing it again....

Megaton for me if true.

Not willing to try it out though. Even for science :P

Yeah just a joke.

But really, they actually did fuck up bad... This "happening" has pretty much killed my regular Destiny group in 2 days flat. It's worse than the Dark Below debacle.

Sorry my sarcasm meter is broken on this subject right now :(

Forgive me <3
