Matt Booty Explains Why Xbox Ditched Its $80 Price Tag For Outer Worlds 2 & Other Games

At a certain point chasing every nickel of profit at the expense of your reputation isn't exactly smart. I get it, inflation is crazy, buying power is terrible, but if there is any company on this planet that could shoulder a little of the burden to help it's customers it's freaking Microsoft. What amount of profit is enough? There is a reason when you say the name Arizona Tea Company people have a positive impression, even if they don't like the product.

BTW, The PlayStation 5 was $500 at launch and that's exactly what you can buy one for right now. The pS5 Pro is $650. The XSX was $500, and it cost $650 right now and the 2tb XSX is $800. Hell, Sony isn't exactly filled with angels so why are their products cheaper? It's absolutely reasonable to question why Microsoft can't eat a bit of the cost.

I'm not disagreeing that it would be nice. Of course it would. I don't want to pay more. It just isn't realistic. And I know people love to point to Arizona tea, but that's the exception not the rule. The reason that's a story is because of what an insane outlier it is. But we can't compare the markets of computer hardware to canned gas station tea, I'm sorry.

Also, the $499 model of ps5 at launch was the disc version. Which is now 549. The digital version was 399, and that is now 499. If you were talking about the identical SKU then sure, fair enough.

Also, yes there are Black Friday sales going on right now. No that does not change what the MSRP is. You're just making too many apples to oranges comparisons.

$60 was my limit and the increase $70 not only pushed me towards not buying ANY new game on release day but it also became a factor to effectively drop consoles as my main system.

I have effectively become a "patient retro gamer" where I'm purposely waiting for new AAA or AA games to go on sale on GOG/Steam before I buy them and now I have an AYN Thor to play retro games with.

The industry's greed towards trying to get me to spend more money has backfired and instead I'm spending less money than ever before on new games.

So far this year I have only bought Monster Hunter Wilds and Dying Light The Beast on Day 1.
