Bungie defends Destiny: The Taken King's £/$40 price tag (Eurogamer)

Isn't the Batman season pass $40?

Twas $30 if you preordered the bundle on PS4. Also WB did come out and explain everything in the season pass. But yes, was expensive. Flipside, TTK price is being compared to the first Expansion pass which netted us TDB and HoW both of which many felt were light on content for the price.

Oh god. Just let the franchise die already. Isn't there a new Modern Warfare coming out? Please..

not sure how that would help... all of the last COD's up to AW have been total lag fests with not too many maps before DLC starts dropping... really won't be a step up on destiny unless they are doing something different this time.

COD is basically the last franchise that will save us.

X_X I have no idea what to do to get one.
Keep playing, I guess. It went 6 months before I got my first. RNG is so silly in this game.

Yeah thunderlord was my most desired exotic for a time and I cheered when Xur sold it but yesterday I had to shard 2 of them.
It was funny because Luke was like "we'd love to have more options for people to be social in our game" when asked about trading. But obviously they won't or can't implement it.
I'm sure this has been asked an answered but is there not a way to just preorder the Taken King for $40 or is the standalone not going to become available until it launches?

They really fucked up the base Destiny launcher on PS4. It has a new Taken King logo a countdown timer until release, and a download button instead of the normal 'Start' button.
There are two issues I guess.
1) People want the stuff that comes with the CE.
2) Europeans feel ripped off at the base price.

Oh so they are being reactive to the backlash, instead of proactive to the loyal players.

The way they are marketing this expansion, you would think Destiny itself comes out this September, and did not hit last year.

Wait... I know why, maybe all the gutted shit is finally making some semblance into the original scope of the game, so they are re-marketing (re-introducing) it this Fall that way.

As someone has said, they created the best damned 7-7.5 game of all time. Imagine how good it would have been if they did not gut half the content and story at it's original launch.

So you would prefer it if The Taken King Collector's Edition cost $80 and did not include the base game or previous expansions?

Previous expansion didnt add new areas at all, just opened doors in the world Bungie can just simply let then locked and didnt disturb the next content unless the new content re uses the previous DLC areas

I think you cant buy the DLC alone yet the 40 is still expensive so you are forced to buy it in a bundle anyway for $60 if you dont have the old content .

The industry has turned a honest, decent guy into yet another corporate sychophant.

I just got back into Destiny too. Guess I'll go back to not playing it. Far too many games to play anyway. Your loss, Bungie.

Shouldnt the game now be LESS expensive that they have ADVERTISEMENTS in the game? Have you seen those Red Bulls logos with the Red Bull buy a can thing? I'm amazed at how people haven't freaked out at that yet. But i'm assuming it's incoming soon.

They pruty much have added advertising now in the game. What's next? dorito logos? mountain dew? Taco bell or AT&T????

I bet they're going to reduce the price of the expansion, and offer a digital collector's edition for those who already own the base game and two current expansions for a reduced price - rather than $80 or whatever it is now.

It's kind of crazy how quickly this story took off and snowballed.

Huh, you know I never thought about it before but yeah if destiny had about 3X the story content, and the pvp was lag-free it would probably be a solid 10/10

I don't think they can do that because that would just piss off the people who already paid 80 dollars for the CE just to get the CE items. Unless they give them something else. Like the next DLC for free or something like that.

Standalone is only currently available to those who have the season pass or bought both House of Wolves and The Dark Below.

Things may change.

New skolas is not easier than solar burns skolas. Also you burned yourself out. Running Poe 35 22 times in a week is madness. You probably put in 60 hours in one week.

As I thought you play an absolute crap ton. I play very often and the most motes of light I've ever had was 400.

Trials of Osiris rewards hands them out like candy.

1. Solar burn Skolas, providing you went consistent and had someone use BH/IB, it was incredibly easy. The issue is however is that using that strat took a little more execution than it does to just run around, killing ads if you so please, then dealing damage to a very crappy Skolas.

I think Arc/Void burn Skolas' encrouaged players to seek weapons they didn't have, and it was fun. Void week hardly many of my less serious players had an LDR or even a Preydeths, so we ended up doing it legit that week. IMHO that was the most fun Skolas could ever be, with Void Burn. Or at the very least, now he just has low health and instead of having a lot of communication for when we rotate, we just merk all the enemies and take time. It's silly.

I did definitely burn myself out however, but the problem is that if I hadn't I would have only been 4 Skolas runs and a single ToO away from having to same loot I do now. I got lucky with the Messenger (Solar) sure, but VoC ended up being the better PvE weapon which was kinda infruiating... (I'll explain, Pulse Rifles have good range in terms of damage dropoff, but you can't guarantee all three hits will be precision shots at more than HC range).

2. Those motes were from all the hundreds of Rad mats I had lol. My motes untraded all went to reroll my Efrideet's the IB before HoW haha, costed me a few hundred.

I actually almost ran out of weapon parts by the time I finished with the Matador rerolls.

I mean, I LOVE that all the stuff I did before carried over (Bungie did a GREAT job with that), but I wish the Queen weapons weren't ALL shit outside of Wolves' Bane and PoE Skolas Primaries having their final tier perk made useless.

I feel like new players should just stock up on Etheric Light and play older Raids for the best gear, and regular crucible.

SO I dunno about The Taken King. It depends. I don't need Bungie to be so secretive with the loot. They need to be like they were with the HoW reveal always.

Lol, so THIS is why Bungie wanted to leave Microsoft. They had this burning desire to build a new game called Destiny, and this is what they come up with? At this pace Bungie will be parted out in a fire sale in a few years.

Nothing would change

I've seen so many people have different ideas of what they thought destiny was going to be that people were still going to shit on it.

I don't agree with a lot of the business practices but that is my favorite game, it's my friends and co-workers favorite game, and end of the day, that's all that matters.

We will buy whatever they put out

Bungie/Activision have been taking the wind out my sails towards Destiny for quite a while now. My interest has dwindled to the point of not even wanting to continue. All this has pretty much put the final nail in the coffin for me. Probably will uninstall Destiny this week. I need more space for better games anyway.

Anyone who knows me knows I can be sarcastic, anyone who remembers podcasts I've done knows that I can be pretty blunt, and anyone who’s watched me in a ViDoc knows I'm pretty unpolished.

However, most of you don't know me.

Reading my interview with Eurogamer and imagining it came from some random developer of a game I love - that random developer looks like an Asshat.

But that Asshat was me - and those words rightfully anger you.

I'm sorry.

.

Someone set me straight here: vanilla copy, paid $20 for it. Open and play or return? What do all these expansions do for more of a SP fan?

I feel like I need a wiki or something.

If you really only care about single-player, it's honestly not really worth it. The main campaign is one of the weakest parts of the game (and the expansions don't really do that much to improve it). If you plan to do raids and other endgame content, then I would say give it a go. It's the most fun playing with friends.

If you're saying SP strictly as in solo modes (storyline basically) and nothing else online with other people, including "co-op", which a ton of the game is based on, then no definitely not worth it. In case you don't know, a ton of the non-PvP stuff still automatically matchmakes you with strangers to form a fireteam. However if you meant NOT-PvP then yes IMO the DLCs have been well worth it. In case you also didn't know, the raids don't have automatic matchmaking, can't be played solo, and have been the best part of the PvE side of the game so far.

at least you got a physical copy so you can return it if you don't like it. keep the game if you plan to play with DestinyGAF. due to lack of matchmaking for endgame activities (Nightfall, L32+ PoE, etc) the game is super painful if you don't play with dgaf. Basically you should return it

Destiny is really not a very well designed game and extremely hostile to casuals. But it's an excellent grinder, if that makes any sense.

Also prepare for mandatory dlc purchases every 3-4 months

edit- oh wait you're an SP gamer you said. Hell yeah you better return it. The sp campaign only has like 1 or 2 decent missions (the last one & first). HoW dlc has a worthy 1.5 hour singleplayer story if you're desperate for something

I don't know if I'd characterize it as not ever wanting to do MP, but I hate the fast-twitch insanity that it's become. But yeah, it sounds like I should probably return.

Perhaps I'll find a used copy at Gamestop and take advantage of their trial period.

You can play Destiny MP without ever touching the PvP aspect. The Raids are a lot less twitchy than PvP and are actually fun to boot. Vault of Glass, on its own, is some of the most well thought-out, enjoyable MP content of its type I've ever played.

So are the non-PvP portions like team-based GTAV missions? That is more up my alley than a free for all PvP.

If that's the case, I'm in.

So wait, those items are gonna be 20$? They wont be in the expansion if bought separately?

Nope, They expect you to buy them if you want them. Just this way its an extra 20 dollars on top of the 40 for the expansion.

Honestly, reading the update its like they really just want to find a way to shut up the heavy backlash. They really aren't interested in actually listening to all the issues brought up.

I came back from a 2 week vacation, I have been playing almost daily before hand.
E3 comes, look new games.
Then this shit.

hmmm after spending 2 weeks not playing Destiny out on vacay + this news = I think I am done. Time to check my backlog and by new games this fall

More or less.

On Prison of Elders 28, all regular strikes, playlists and the weekly heroics you get automatically matched with other players doing the same activity. Those match up to a 3 person team, depending on how many are in a fireteam.

The nightfall, raid and Prison of Elders 32, 34 and 35 are not matchmaking. While it's possible to do all of these (except the Vault of Glass raid) solo, they're rather difficult to do for most people. This can be alleviated by having friends join you or, if you're inclined, going to the Destiny OT or Destiny LFG and getting a group together for one of those activities.

The general open world for patrolling doesn't match you with people, but you'll see others wandering around doing random things like in most MMOs. This gets fun when there is a large group of people in one area waiting for a public event to happen and everyone smacking it down.

Cool, much appreciated. I think that tells me that I'll keep it.

Honestly, that post basically says exactly why I kept playing. If I were only going for collecting and playing single player I never would have gotten past the demo or the main game - DLC.
