There was a press screening for Ant-Man in LA tonight, and here are what some critics think of it (via Twitter).

ANT-MAN is good. Not a disaster like some expected but also not a homerun. Has a *must see* after the end credits scene.

Brian Gallagher‏@GallagherMW
ANT-MAN is a TON of fun! It's Marvel's version of Ocean's 11. Great cast, slick score and two wonderful post-credits scenes #StayTillTheEnd

ANT-MAN exceeded all expectations. Smart, fun, witty and suspenseful. It's like AVENGERS' ELEVEN.

Ant Man is great. Way better than Age of Ultron. @edgarwright deserves co-director credit. Feels like his movie.

Sadly ‘Ant-Man’ falls flat in almost every way. Doesn’t seem like it’s sure of what it wants to be. Not so much bad as it is blah.

Jeremy Smith ‏@mrbeaks
It takes ANT-MAN a moment to get cranked up, but once it does, it’s sensational. My favorite third-act of any Marvel movie.

Haleigh Foutch ‏@HaleighFoutch
ANT-MAN is fantastic fun with heart, wildly clever set-pieces, and a scene-stealing Michael Pena. It's a movie I want to be friends with.

Not a big marvel movie fan but I like a lot of stuff about this movie, hoping it turns out to be good. Still bummed Wright isn't directing woulda been a day 1 for me.

I guess its just reactions but talking about an after credits scene when judging a movie is hilarious and really puts some perspective on these

I feel kinda bad for Peyton Reed. If the movie is successful, people will chalk it up to Edgar Wright's script, early art direction, etc. If it's a flop, people will just say, "See? Shouldn't have fired Edgar Wright!". I don't think he can win.

If I enjoy the film I will happily credit Peyton Reed for being able to put together a film at such short notice and deliver it on time, regardless of the pre-production done before him. If it turns out bad, I will more likely blame Marvel for rushing the project forward anyway after losing Wright. He can win in my book!

Yeah it is such a catch 22 for him.

This is how I'm choosing to look at it as well. Peyton Reed was put into a precarious position and deserves to be respected if this turns out well or at least understood if this turns out hell.

If the biggest "must see" scene in a movie is a throwaway after credits stinger, is the movie actually any good?
I don't think that's what the comment suggested. Just that the after credit scene was a must see, not that it the rest of the movie wasn't good.

They're already starting the 'Edgar wright deserves credit' train. Truth is you don't know how much of his work remains, but you do know that he willingly left the project and no longer wanted to be involved with it. Let's keep the Edgar wright talk out of it and judge the movie based on its own merit.

So, time to fire up the grill & get the crows ready or should I wait for the actual reviews to come in?

I would probably wait for actual reviews, as much as I want this to be good Twitter reactions aren't always the best barometer for how the film actually is.

These early impressions aren't exactly filling me with confidence. One review said the after credit scene is the highlight, another wants to friendzone the film, and a third said it's bad.

I wouldn't be marinating any crows just yet.

I'll still be seeing this as I like Paul Rudd, but I've learnt never to take post film screening tweets from critics seriously. Especially for comic movies.

best third act in Marvel movies? now I'm very curious.

That is not a very high bar.

A good third act in a Marvel movie? hahahahahaha

Yeah I will believe it when I see it.

Not exactly. While it wasn't GotG or Winter Soldier good, AoU was by no means a bad movie.

AoU was not bad. It was just plain mediocre and utterly forgettable.

As time passes, I feel this to be less and less true. I dislike AoU more and more each time I think about it. It's a funny thing. Like, when I watched Tomorrowland, they played the Ant-Man trailer, and I was discussing with a friend if it would be better than AoU, and we both agreed that it probably would be because "that wouldn't be hard".
