Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

I did around 36 damage but that was with my +25% damage gear that I forgot to switch out, at max range you only hit maybe every second swing because of the spread. If you move a few steps closer your hit chance increases, at dual squelcher range you'll probably hit most of the time but the damage is somewhere in the 30 area (without damage up). I'm not sure if hopping on the spot really increases the range, but that's something that can be tested rather easily
Okay, sounds about right then.

Let's talk about chargers instead while we're looking at the data. I see ChargeShotLong,Normal,Quick, and with scope variations for the first two, and I think we know which one's which there. BUT there is also a ChargeShotLight. A few unique things about ChargeShotLight:

1) Its min and max distances are the same, unlike every other charger.
2) It only takes 20 frames to max out its charge.
3) ...But unlike every other charger, it only does 80 damage at max charge. Min charge is only 30 though, or a 4HKO. So charging is still good but it won't get you the OHKO.

I hope we get this, it sounds cool. Not sure what it could be though. Were any of the leaked weapon images a charger?

Had a game late last night where my team just got absolutely obliterated. I think we had 12% or something. We only had 3 players, and I was highest level on team at 11. Still no excuse for getting beat that bad. I hate getting destroyed. Lol. Although I have lost a few games 43.5 to 43.3 or something similar. That is worse.

This game is so addicting. Still have a bit to go in single player as well. At the 4th area now. Sniper level(#16 I think?) is giving me a bit of trouble near the end.

Damn you guys really nailed that final push! GG.

Why are you wearing only the squid armor head, I laugh every time I see you lol

LOL yeah it is funny looking right? I just had Spyke had a slot to it so I wanted to level it up a bit and I like my hoodie and shoe gear because of their stats right now. I'll finish levelling up the other armor parts soon.

Also I'm done, heading out of town for half of the weekend. Enjoy the Splat GAF!

Man, I'm exhausted from Ranked. Either you are in the good team and win a few matches or you keep loosing. Managed to get a new high score 24:4. Even in the loser team I managed a 17:6. Now I'm working my way up from B- to B 80. And hopefully back into A..

PS4 gamer here! I watched a friend playing this game yesterday and I have to say it's fantastic. Some of the most imaginative platforming I've seen and THAT music. Brilliant.

I hope they nerf the dynamo roller next.

I agree with this. I had a Ranked match on Bluefin Depot vs two Dynamos and a Krak-on. They held the zone for the entire match after getting in place. No skill or cleverness involved. Just jumping and splashing forever. It was a near-impenetrable wall of ink on all sides. I was dumbfounded as I imagine was my entire team.

Maybe we could have overcome them, but the timing and skill threshold required would be much higher than the bullshit they were doing. It verges on being unfair.

Sounds like you needed a charger on your team.

Think it's time I get down with Splatoon Gaf.

NNID: Oryon7 (Mii name: Jos).

I'll probably jump on sometime soon. Gonna fix something to eat first.

Yep, the rollers should be a short-range weapon first and foremost, where the primary method for splatting players is running them over. None should kill in fewer than two projectile hits and the maximum range should be no, or little, further than the Aerospray (in other words, mostly to be used for painting on walls to climb, etc). The argument about the time it takes the charge up certain ones is moot because once you've started, the animation will almost certainly complete, so you'll get the other person even if they get you first. I think your situation was a bit of an outlier, with teams being remixed for every match, and the balancing issue certainly isn't crippling, but it certainly deserves to be sorted out before the gimping of the Ninja gear, for instance, which is minor at best.

Ditto, gonna piggyback on that! Will be on at some point today but my username is zeioiidx so if anyone wants to add me, I'd love to join some games anytime anyone is online.

Saying it takes no skill or cleverness is just false, but they definitely are the easiest weapons to use in Splat Zones.

No to all of this. The weapon would become useless.

I did some tests with the Splat Roller before getting slaughtered online. Here's the dig on the Carbon Roller since I was able to confirm what variables were which:

  • Roll Damage: 70 (Normal: 140, Heavy: 160)
  • Flick Damage: 25 - 125 (Normal: Same, Heavy: 30 - 140)
  • Time to lift up roller: 9 frames (Normal: 20, Heavy: 45)
  • Rolling Speed: 1.44 (Normal: 1.2, Heavy: .95)
  • Width: A bit smaller than Normal but I'm too lazy to get the actual number
  • Flick Range: Worse than Normal but we won't have a good idea of what it is until it comes out in like 5 hours.

EDIT: Heavy = Dynamo, Normal = Splat and Krak-On. Carbon Roller = Compact since we know there's no patch tonight and that's the only possibility left. Source.

Fun playing with you guys. I have never seen so much sub use as I did playing with you guys. Bombs everywhere, retreat->bomb, bomb->flank, etc. Learnt a lot, just need to aim better..

I don't mean in general use they're no-skill weapons. I've seen a bunch of crappy Dynamo users that don't compare to good ones. But for that match it was relatively little skill involved to remain planted in one small area and fling paint. I stopped to survey them at one point and it was nuts how they were doing nothing but spamming really. In contrast everyone else was scrambling, sneaking about for openings, dodging the enormous amounts of ink and trying to break through with multiple different attacks. I do agree that xandaca's suggested nerf is too extreme. Maybe a decent decrease to the spread and a slight increase to the wind-up with power remaining intact. In its current state the attack is just enormous compared to the scale of every other normal attack in this game. Splatoon visuals aside, it looks ridiculously cartoonish.

Thanks for that! as long that the carbon roller can cover the paths a bit more than the inkbrush on port mackerel it'll be enough, hope its tank capacity is decent by default. This thing's a beast on paper.

Good games, you did very well considering you don't get to play to often, I can tell by you being level 15, your definitely someone I would like to play with again

Edit: Taking a break for a bit, but those of you who were just playing with me how's my charger so far. It's the first time I'm really feeling it

At the very least, none of them should be one-hit kills. They're basically mid-range shotguns right now, with the added ability of an instant kill should you happen to bump into one of them. They're only a little overpowered in isolation, but get two or more even half-decent players together and the cumulative effect is ridiculous. Like chargers, they should be specialist weapons, deadly in the right hands but taking practice to get there, where standard shooters should be entry level but have a much lower ceiling. At the moment, users of the more powerful rollers can be pretty ferocious with even limited experience.

You did pretty damn good

Really, nice. I'll jump back in to test it some more

Other charger users, how come you rarely use it as a shotgun up close when an enemy tries to get to you I'm finding that it's pretty damn effective if someone tries to rush you and then you squid behind them and just kill them with 3 quick blasts. I usually at least get the kill before getting splatted if I get splatted at all

It's good at disorienting people too (well me at least) because they don't really expect it.

One match I was playing against a Japanese charger who literally swam in a circle around me chucking bombs until I died. It was one of those HOW THE FUCK moments

every time I'm in a GAF room, if you take the 300p win bonus out of the equation it's crazy how close everyone's scores can be

I hope competitive online Splatoon becomes a thing. I'd actually be really interested in playing this whenever I could with GAF as "Team GAF" down the line. :lol

I just did the most awesome thing. I was marked so I hid a beakon in a corner, they went past it as I superjumped to it and finally got a double splat from behind them.

Best game!
