Independent of this case, supreme court verdicts that are split like this seem like a joke to me. If an issue is really one that is determined by existing laws, and these are the "best" and most important judges in the country, then shouldn't they all reach the same conclusion? If they end up split then either the whole system seems to be a biased joke, or else the issue at hand is not actually answered by existing laws and it should be left to politicians.
 
You know, even thought marriage isn't everything (as in the fight against bigotry is not over yet), and there will still be a LOT of queer hate for years to come (sad but true), I wonder what National Coming Out Day will be like this year. I've been considering publicly coming out IRL for a while now, yet at the same time, shouldn't we be striving for a day in which it isn't a big deal at all, and there's no closet to come out of in the first place? Sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling...

Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi so far.
My state will fall in line after a brief fight.
 
Don't really have much to contribute to the topic except to say it's fantastic.

I'm really happy that in the circles of social media, forums etc I use that I have seen nothing but people being excited and celebrating.

I'm proud that my kid can grow up in a more tolerant America.

My wife was mentioning how our kid will grow up thinking of gay marriage like we think of slavery....like wtf were people thinking, how can someone be so hateful or care so much about denying another human something so basic.

I'm happy for everyone that was waiting for this decision and look forward to seeing what is next for society as a whole.

But tolerance is one thing, what you want is full acceptance.
I dont like when people "tolerate" something. That means the begrudge it. Fucking accept it. Its the new reality, so swallow pride and accept whatever it is.

It's probably not the best word for it, but typically 'tolerance' is synonymous with 'acceptance' in this context.

In that case then its fine.
To me tolerance is a compromise sort of thing. Like "Well ok we will allow you to exist for now". I know every little victory counts but it seems like such a hollow word to describe something.
