Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

A new update just went live at 6:00 PT

"Contains fixes for certain Backward Compatibility issues."

Source?

Would love to hear if this helps with Mass Effect frame rate issues, or if its broader PAL support, etc.

"Source" was me reading what the update says in the dashboard preview app. The update installed last night when I posted originally.

I haven't noticed any differences, but I don't have Mass Effect on XBOX (Steam), and I have been deep into the MCC campaigns anyways.

Understood. Thanks for the reply.

I'm enjoying the few games I have got so far, especially playing through Perfect Dark again. I hope that MS adds a 360 section to the X1 store once this launches for everyone, would be cool to pick up some cheap games for my collection, and it's a great way for publishers to keep monetising their back catalogues.

Xbox One could use some JRPGs as Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, The Last Remnant. Star Ocean IV, Eternal Sonata, Nier or Resonance of Fate.

The number of people still asking the same questions that have already been answered about a thousand times at this point, and in this very thread, just boggles my mind.

Besides BC testing, is there any reason worth it to try out the preview? I just got my Xbox one so I don't see the rush for me to try out the preview.

Soooo has mass effect performance improved...? Anyone?
edit: found a stream on twitch... looks much improved... but it's in a different part of the game

The game streaming to PC (you'll need the W10 preview on your PC) and you know the new revamped Dashboard will be for preview members first for maybe a whole month or two when it comes out later.

Oh nice w10 streaming! Didn't realize that was also supported for this preview. I haven't installed the w10 preview yet since I haven't done my backup yet. I might give it a shot :)

So I got my invite and accepted it and have just been stuck pending for 5 days now. Is there anything else I need to do? Or does it just take a while sometimes?

Phil mentioned in the giant bomb stream that they're still working on the whole multiple disc thing. Here's hoping they have that ready by the time I get my XBO and I buy Lost Odyssey.

We know that "Gears of War 3" will be free through "Games with Gold" on Xbox 360 in July. Who else thinks that it will be one of the next backwards compatible titles in July? Sounds logical to me.

Hopefully it will.
They could use us to test the multiplayer and maybe the DLC too, see if there is any problems.

This backward's compatibility update is brilliant!

Went onto the store and purchased "Viva Pinata", which I've been wanting to show my 6 year old boy for ages as it's the kind of game he would adore :-)

Interestingly, I couldn't use any of the money in my MS account? It didn't even show up as an option so had to use the debit card which was a bummer :-(

Other possibly interesting news - preview members on Xbox 360 got some "stability" update after the one that lets you see what your One friends are doing. Maybe preparation for BC functionality in terms of Live infrastructure?

Lol its brilliant reading the reactions to this on the first few pages. I was the same...gawping at my TV thinking WHAT?!

Well here's hoping they build a decent library of backwards compatible games. I

You can't use money in your MS account to make purchases from Xbox.com. Its a huge oversight thats been there since they switched away from Microsoft Points.

Yup. Just listened to the IGN podcast. It was just a bad interpretation of a friend.

Phil seemed confident that GWG games would be BC. In the interview he said he wanted to tell everyone to download licenses for the 360 GWG even if you didn't have a 360, but he had to be silent. Ha

Yeah it seems to me that they're planning to bring most GwG X360 titles to BC, but to say "every" feels a little too much! Still, Phil sounded very positive in that regard anyway!

So I own Kameo on Xbox 360, and it appears in the Xbox Preview App quest for playing a backwards compatible game, but not in my ready to install queue.

I thought for sure that I own it, so I checked on Xbox.com and it gives me the option the purchase it for £8.99. Anyone experienced anything similar?

I mean it's right here in my download history

Sounds like you don't actually own Kameo digitally on the account that you're using.

Be sure to check your purchase history to verify too.

Click on it straight from the quest and it should download anyways. That's how I got BattleBlock Theater to download.

It grates me that the only way I can redeem Microsoft money for 360 games is to actually get the game from the Xbox 360 console itself. ....You can't pay for the 360 game with Microsoft credit from Xbox.com.

Microsoft is definitely going to need to fix that when the Backwards Compatibility update comes out of Preview. (You can buy Xbox One games from Xbox.com with Microsoft credit)

I edited in an image, it's definitely there. Very odd. I'm chatting with support about it now.

Didn't work, gives me the option to pin and unpin, though.

Ok so is it possible to add the freebie Xbox 360 game of the month to your account if ya don't have an X360 anymore but have an Xbox one? I just want to secure some freebie 360 games so I can play em when the backwards compatible update rolls in this fall.

On the Xbox website.

Are you a preview member?

I bought Hexic HD (or got it free for 360 years ago) and I went into the Xbox website and ordered it again for 360. I waited about 10 minutes, and then it popped up on Xbox One under "Ready to install".

But you need to be a preview member.

Thanks for the tip, I was wondering why Hexic HD didn't show up on my list.

I have the same problem. I can even play it on my 360 without any problems but it won't allow me to download it on X1. It'll probably get sorted once BC is released to everyone.

Thanks for the responses about the points issue!

That's really daft that you can't use your credit for 360 games :-(

I know Phil said they were working on allowing us to purchase 360 games from xbox one, so will just have to wait till then before I get anymore 360 games!

Yep. Infact you can purchase Thief for free right now. While i'm not sure if that will be bc since there's a next gen version it's worth a try. Personally I have my paypal set up and have had no issues so if you're worried about attaching cc I reccomend just adding paypal

I think I'll be in for an XBO once they announce backwards compatibility with Lost Odyssey. Want to go back and finally play it, but no longer own my 360.

I've read back a few posts and this many answer a few questions.

The OP could do with an FAQ if the OP is still around?

Anyway, on an IGN Podcast Unlocked interview with Phil Spencer, he talked about Backwards Compatability.

Words straight from his mouth are:

Microsoft first party games

* All first party titles (minus Kinect) will be backwards compatible at some point.

* Yes that includes Gears and Halo Reach.

* One caveat for now at least was multi disc games. They are working on it. Phil wants Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. He specially called them out as titles that 'need' to work.

* This include Arcade games. If published by MS, they will be available in backwards compatibility.

When will all MS games be available?

* This is still in preview. It was a challenge to get this working in the first place. They want it right.

* When it launches in full later this year, the library will be much bigger.

I've been trying out Geometry Wars, Hexic & Banjo Kazooie - they all work flawlessly, but now I really really need to play Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts on XB1. Make it happen asap, MS, and make sure the PAL version works!

The crazy thing about BC is I'm seriously considering rebuying lots of 360 games digitally, feels so good having all those games ready to start directly from the dashboard (
damn the people killing the original XB1 DRM plan!
).

Well since GAME is closing here in Sweden I stocked up on some games I have yet to finish (I still have a 360 in my household), hoping to play them on X1 someday.

Gears 2 (Horde baby!)
Dead Space 3 (never got around to it, I know the general opinion of it is yuck)
Mass Effect 3 (Loved the first and second, want to wrap it up)
Witcher 2 (Just finished Witcher 3, want to plunge deeper into this world)

All for 18$ (150 sek). I would say that is a fair price.
