This is a fairly common form of dogma for homophobes: Gay people don't actually feel love for their partners, they're actually just obsessed with constant sex. And just like atheists, they all really know that Christianity is 100% true but they're in denial about it, and they only do all of their gayness and law changing because they want to defy God to make themselves feel better. That's why they don't really want to get married, they're actually just trying to continue to oppress and persecute the most downtrodden minority in the world: Christians.

Well, same thing really.
It's basically the parent saying "you're just going through a phase" type of denial, except wrapped in religious dogma. You can't really love another person of the same gender because God couldn't possibly allow that to be a thing, so you must be lying/in denial about it, so you're just be rebelling against God and Christians out of spite to defend the perversion you willfully chose.
That's where all of these baffling "this isn't about love, it's about hate and intolerance against Christian beliefs" comments come from. These people honestly believe that gay love is impossible and that LGBTQ fights for rights and recognition are an act or scheme to make Christians mad or look bad.

There is a specific flavor of narcissism that powers the thinking of "they're lying to themselves" type homophobes, and once identified you see it show up in all kinds of places outside homophobia.
Deluding one's self that everybody else is lying to themselves seems to be the fallback position for people who cannot reconcile a certain contradiction: why is everybody else doing/saying/liking/being this thing I despise? It cannot possibly be because there's something I don't understand. As judge of all the world, and to soothe my own sense of insecurity, I shall conclude millions of people are intentionally trying to deceive me. In fact, it is a conspiracy.
One doesn't need religion at all to develop this self-reinforcing delusion. Religion is a popular excuse though, since one can imagine a superior cosmic power has passed judgement and you are just the messenger - faithfully carrying out _____'s will.

As someone who hates it when people play Devil's Advocate, I really feel the need to say something here even though I'm sure we're in the same Atheist / Agnostic boat together. Bashing / mocking the whole group for the despicable behavior of a few members isn't the way to go about these things. The last few days have seen lots of GAFers who profess to be people of faith expressing support for marriage equality. You can be Christian and still embrace LGBT causes; it's the zealots who are the issue, the who use religion as an excuse to justify really awful, bigoted views.
Sorry, I don't mean to jump in your shit about it. I get your sentiment, I really do... but your comments here are kind of the antithesis of the message this court ruling is all about.

It's just their own ego talking. Nothing they're saying is a word of God - it's their own. In the end we create our own God based on our own interpretation of God.
